Isn't it strange how someone you've never actually met can become such an integral part of your daily life for over ten years. Ever since the beginning of Dragonvele Fletch has found ways to help new and long-time players. I can remember when he'd happily work out a personal plan for a player so they could place their boosts and habitats in a way to maximise their earnings.
Every time a new dragon is released he was there with his astute analysis of how we could breed them.
If we miss him so much, how on earth must his real life friends and family be feeling at the moment. It was lovely to see a photo of the real Fletch.
I was privileged to have Fletch as a friend in my park although I have never met him. I just visited his park a few days ago to show my sister his decorations. Thank you for the gems and may you rest in peace.
This is shocking and sad news. My condolences to the family. When I first began playing DragonVale, and whenever I resumed playing after taking a break, Fletch was always there to show the way. And DragonVale was just one part of his multifaceted career. He will be sorely missed. Thanks for all the memories.

I don’t know if anyone here plays Smurfs Village, but when their forum leader, Smurfette, passed away, a character based on her was placed in the game to honour her. She sits at her desk typing away and if you tap on her she walks around the village. She will always be a part of the game she loved.
I know nothing like that can happen in DragonVale but it’s nice to know how much people are valued and how important they are even if we don’t actually know them.

Perhaps we can come to a consensus of a dragon that best represents him and we all name that dragon Fletch. So he will be in all our parks.

That's a good idea.

What a lovely idea! I don't know which dragon I'd nominate, of all the staff I think he's always had that picture as his avatar and not a dragon. The wisest dragons (Century, Bicentennial) or those with the most appropriate colours (Bearded) all have more hair than him, especially for a guy once known as the bald smurf! Perhaps a poison dragon, in honour of his go-to cloning dragon?
GCID: NinjaKiwi. *remember the full stop!*
DVID: NinjaKiwi#3970
Currently breeding for whatever twins I can possibly get my hands on

I think Century and Bicentennial represent bearded, elderly images. Fletch was not old. Bearded is better, but he never sported a beard. Poison is pretty brilliant, NinjaKiwi! My only concern is the name. I don’t want it to be considered negative. Fletch was not poisonous. But I did think of him whenever a dragon had the plant and fire elements, because I knew Poison was going to be his recommended dragon to clone. Poison was one of the first hybrids in the game. I like that history, and I think it represents Fletch’s history with DV.
Due to a potential limit on the number of friends a player can have before issues arise in the game, I will only be able to add Forum members. Thank you, for your understanding, and please consider joining us!

Haven’t posted in ages, but this is such sad news and I feel I need to pay my respects.. Fletch was one of those players who’ve been around for such a long time. He has become part of dragonvale, as far as I’m concerned, so I love the idea of nominating a dragon in his honour. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.
Shane was very close in age to me, mid-fifties I figure, way too young. I was just telling my family a story about him this past Saturday. He had remarked about me doing something on one of the last call competitions and the forum changed his remark to “fudge”. This greatly confused our German speaking friend, who couldn’t understand why it was a sweet confection. Fletch_smf had to explain that he had actually said a bad word.
I can’t imagine how his family and rl friends are feeling right now if it has impacted his virtual friends this much. My condolences to them and the mods on this forum. We will always have him in our hearts.
Here's be my idea: the Fletcher Dragon. Though it wouldn't make it to the game, I wanted to make my own dragon.
Theoretical Element: Omni (if not all, then Plant/Water/Earth/Fire/Light)
Theoretical Quest: Remembering The Good Times
Theoretical Breeding Pair: MAZE + FLOREA (or CENTURY and MAZE)
Bio: In honor of a fallen friend, The Dragonsai Wizards have decided to conjure a topiary to symbolize the remembrance of the times once had with the ol' Wizard. Using the collected essence of what remained after the unfortunate event, the Wizards attempted to create a Dragonsai bush in the shape of a dragon, only to have it come to life as a living, breathing dragon. The odd thing is, the dragon seems to have the same personality as the great Wizard did long ago-possibly due to the secret ingredient used in the spell. Fletcher, they called it, as the dragon proceeded to take in every other dragon in the park under its bushy wings. And, due to the caring, compatible nature of this dragon, it is widely believed that the Fletcher Dragon is capable of residing in any dragon habitat. Just don't try to pluck off the gems from its wings to give to your friends, as this is no ordinary Dragonsai tree or bush.

Naming a dragon for Fletch is such a great idea! Poison is a good choice, one of the original dragons released into the game just like Fletch and Poppy were the originals on the board. For me the dragon would have to be Crystal. Rainbow was the longest to breed dragon at the beginning, but so difficult to breed. Crystal, on the other hand would pop up any time there was an earth/lightning combo and I can still remember Fletch and others coming to the board looking for sympathy every time that 24hr breeding time popped up. We were so spoiled with shorter breeding times way back then. We had no idea what would be released in the coming years. I don’t think any of us had any idea we would still be playing this game in 2023! Farewell, my friend. Crystal will always carry the honor of being known as Fletch.

I like the dragon you have created to be the Fletcher dragon. Do you think Deca would be interested? I know if it was still BackFlip we would probably get this dragon in the vale…

I have no idea, though ususally DECA only adds fan-inspired dragon from their community contests. In the past, I've been doing the contests for a long time and have won quite a few of the recent ones, but alas my designs are yet to be picked.
(that does remind me, I STILL haven't gotten around to getting the 150 gems from the Beauty and the Beast contest. Oh well...)

I think you might be remembering Backflip in a rosy nostalgic way. In the 8 years they ran DragonVale, they only added a couple dragons that were designed by players. DECA regularly adds players’ dragons, almost every event has 1-2 dragons by a player.
Also, Backflip never talked to the DV communities. The only way we could reach them was by emailing support. DECA has Game Reps for all the DV communities so they can communicate with the players. DECA is way more available, easier to access, and willing to listen to players about everything from the game to adding items in the event market.

That is true. The most recent additions/changes from fan requests are the divi and brutiful dragons, and the omnitat limit being upped to 12.
Also, we wouldn't have the Zodiac dragons if it wasn't for the community in the Chatterbox-they struck up a conversation about it a while back and DECA decided to make it a reality!

That is a lovely idea naming a dragon in our parks after Fletch. Fletch has Sand as his co-op dragon and I'm not going to be able to see another Sand dragon without thinking of him.
And a little platform shoe with a goldfish (always liked fletch’s humor) that we can put under our profile picture like the dragon awards? Is it something possible to do? (I’ve put one little in my party dragon)
