Yep, you got it. For anything you are speeding up, the cost in gems is equal to the number of remaining hours or part thereof.

Naww, not yet. Because I still had a Peridot breeding in one cave, and an Olympus (turned out to be Bronze) in the other, I went to bed without even knowing there were new dragons to be had.
I'm behind on several dragons, actually. But none are limited, so it's just a matter of time.

I've never had it happen that I got a dragon before knowing it is available. I imagine it must be a cool feeling though
