I've never done that and I wouldn't want to start now.

No worries! There is no need to speed up your breeding by spending gems. You can if you want, but not required by any means.

PixieWA -- Yeah you're right. I'd rather lose a gem and have a Sapphire but I don't know if there's enough sparkly fix-it dust to make them all better.
Here's hoping I'm not in the bottom 5 although a girl couldn't have asked for better company in the Peridot contest!

I'm willing to take myke up on his bet too.
Although after updating, I currently am unable to gift gems , but I'm sure they'll get that sorted out soon. (guessing those of us having problems accessing the friend list, are all still running pre iOS 5 update)
