Well, when your fails are Dungeon, I have been breeding continuously for Sunstruck since I managed to get a mirage. I only have 1 park, so, I guess you can be with me on the end of the curve, but, I cannot breed for Sunstruck on 2 places with one Mirage - so I might as well try to get sapphire which is proving no more successful. Question though - breeding for all of the special dragons, which I am afraid to miss because everything seems to want a Cotton or Panlong or another special from before I started playing etc. When do you ever breed for the 'regular' or hybrid dragons, let alone the opposites? I find myself regularly wishing for another breeding location.
I don't understand your question. Neither Panlong nor Cotton is required for any breeding. The only special I can think of that needs limiteds for parents is Moonstruck. It needs Love and Rose. Both of which are available in its normal breeding season. Mind you, I am still dirty on BFS for releasing moonstruck during a comeback, but not it's pre-requisite parents.
You will find lots of chatter in old posts about Panlong as for a long time it was the best earner by far. If you were prepared to collect every hour that was. However several updates ago they revised its earning capacity downwards. It is now nothing special. The only use i find for it is once a week for the air event in the colosseum. It remains the best air element earner. Still I have a fair collection of them in hibernation.
Don't sweat on the regulars. They will come in time. Pay attention to Bloodstone's breeding planner so you don't get caught out when a special comes along, but in general, most will come as fails for other dragons. Sooner or later you will get a let up in the specials. (They are coming unusually thick and fast lately) That is the time to take stock and try for some of the normals you don't already have. Especially the opposites. Opposites are mostly used for quarterly gemstones so you have plenty of time to get them. Remember that DV is a game for the long haul. Plan in terms of years not hours.
Bloodstone's breeding guide is nearly committed to my memory!!! Some of the documents on here are priceless!!! However, knowing which dragons are coming and achieving breeding said dragon are 2 different things. I did manage to get Sunstruck! YAY!! However, I have been breeding non stop in at least one habitat since sapphire became available and sometimes in both. I am hopeful that there is still over half of this month left. Even after 31 fails. I do have the known dragons needed for next month, but Mirage was really difficult to get for sunstruck. I have lost track of Dodo fails
I guess when I look at the combinations, I see a lot of the combinations that appear to have higher percentages of breeding when parents are panlong, cotton, etc. Maybe it is perception and not actuality. I will try tracking some of them and see. You are correct that it is a long haul game, but some days I lose track of that. I have 2 dragons at level 16 and I cannot even imagine EVER having enough food to take them to level 17. However, since I see other people with them, I know it will be possible.(hint) There is not a question this time... but the first my question realy was when am I supposed to breed for Malachite, Ooze, Wind etc. My breeding caves seem to be going after specials so often. (which are cool, so not complaining about them). Although, I do often wish for another breeding cave. I am starting to determine that depending on the specials required, you get a lot of the dragons as fails. Sorry if I confused you.
Hm, I cannot imagine having dragons in hibernation... I am still stressing over enough money to grow enough food to get my breeding dragons upgraded . I understand long term players are in the billions, but I just finally got to 100 million - for a few hours, so it seems like a long way in the future
debo0464, All us long term players have been though that stage. It is painful and seems never ending. Then one day, without even noticing it, you will be heading towards 500,000.
To maximise your income, make sure you level up all your epics to 10 as soon as you can. For non epics, concentrate on the ones that earn the most first. Unless of course you need a breeding pair. While you are not earning heaps, stick to the middle range treats. You can burn through 55M in no time, but if it takes you a week or more to build back to that amount, then it is not a good deal. The 24 hour ones cost less than a million for a full 11 farms and will get you the treats you need slower, but just as surely. Also there is a diminishing return on your investment feeding dragons. Taking a dragon from L1 to L10 will give you a greater return in earning capacity than going from L10 to L15. And cost you a lot less.
Put your dragons in the highest cap habitat you can. By now, you should have decided you should only have one plant and one lightning habitat. Even the giant ones cannot earn enough to make it worthwhile to have more than one. And the only dragons that need them are the primaries.
Avoid decorating. Unless that really is your thing. Wait until you have some spare cash. I'm still not there, but then I am a firm believer in the Shaker ideal. Put more succinctly by the modernists: function before form.

Thank you for the friendly advice. I do only have 1 giant plant habitat. However, I have 2 lightening habitats. With the lightening and plant dragons combined, I could not figure out how to only have 1. Maybe when I get more dragons, I could hibernate some duplicates - but I thought somebody said it took gems to take them out - which I am always in need of atm. I do watch the food and am very aware of the cost. I have done some of the more expensive foods when I needed to upgrade a dragon, but I tend to stick with lower level foods. I have only splurged on 1 decorration that was not a quest early in the game... not my thing and right now my place is a wreck because I need to reorganize my habitats, so I have just shoved farms everywhere. I always try to have the food to upgrade a special to 10 when I hatch it. The good thing about specials, is you know they are coming and have time!! I am almost to the point that I can take all of my dragons to 10 when I hatch them, but not quite. Other than that, I am trying to upgrade the ones for breeding beyond 10 atm. However, you are correct in that the earning capacity is drastically different, so when I get Sept./Oct. breeding dragons (like that will happen with the new specials), I will concentrate on those. It is rather sad cactus earns so much per minute and can only be in a habitat with a max of 50k. Fortunately, I tend to be able to check mine several times a day.
I appreciate everyone's advice and patience with listening to my complaints - I really do enjoy the game, or I would not care if I got a dragon or not. Also, not the place for it, but a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you sending me gems!!!! I do not waste them and think very carefully about what I spend them on while playing!!!

What do you mean by "24 hour ones"?
Dragon Fruits take 24 hours to complete in treat farms.
Since I count on fails to help me get dragons that I do not have, What do we think the chances are that if I actually get to breed for all 3 anniversary dragons, I will get a double rainbow and sun?? I am still sad that I did not get a Liberty, so, I am hoping for at least 2 of the 3. Only 1 fail so far though - because I am still breeding for Sapphire. It produces gems.

You have a 5% chance (10% on the island) to breed a Sun, Paper, or Cotton, a 7% (or 14%) for a Leathery, and a 0.5% (1%) chance of a DR. Depending how many breedings you do, you can be very likely to get a Sun (set your TT to daytime!) but it would be very difficult regardless to get a DR.

Ok I have been off the board for a while and am back with a vengeance . I am trying to get a Leather, also a Daydream. I have tried the only combo I have for the daydream at what level do my hypno and mirage have to be at to get one. I am sick of getting 50 million Hypnos. And as for leathers I really do not need anymore moons. Please help!

Since Daydream is permanent and Leathery has less than 3 days left, I recommend you to go after Leathery until it expires.

Leather - Crystal + Bluefire, both lvl 17, Island. 1st try Quake + Frostfire, both lvl 20, Cave. 3rd try.
Daydream - 2nd Daydream, after breeding continuously since last Friday, both breeding sites. 3 lvl 19, and 1 lvl 18. Got it yesterday morning, Island (I dont remember if it was lvl 19 + lvl 19, or lvl 19 + lvl 18)
combo for Leather were recommended by Wapatango, and GregDarcy.

Same combo I used for 4 of them, used Hail and something for the other 3 (it just kept giving them to me). All of my dragons used were LV 17, 18, 19 or 20. and Mountain was in the EBI and Hail in the Cave. Hope this helps and Koala in your endeavors.

ok, I realize there is really not a magic combo to breed a specific dragon, but what are humans if not ever hopeful??? I have been breeding for an autumn with too many fails to discuss... (maybe I should stop counting fails) I have been breeding with Blazing and Cold because one of the fails is Frostfire and we will not even discuss how many fails I have for that dragon! (and I have not even counted the autumn fails in its number) Finally this morning, I have an Autumn in my breeding cave!! Does anyone think there is a better combo for Frostfire, or am I just as well off breeding the same pair? These two are at least 15, but I only have dragons that I have been breeding to lvl 15 - 17. I desperately want to get one dragon to level 18 but it is going to be quite a while before I can make that leap. I realize that the island might be a bit better, but I am breeding for Opal there and will continue until the end of the month or I get 2. Sadly, I never did get the second sapphire. So Frostfire combos anyone??
I'm afraid it's all downto that great random number generator in the sky cloud. If you are happy with another Autumn, continue with blazing & cold. Or perhaps swap out blazing for smoke just for a change. I have had a few frost fires from that combo.
Once you have all the autumns and Snolys you need I would switch to something like Cold&Flower to bring the fail times down.

Thanks, I will try that when I get passed my next fail. Another autumn could be cool .
It does not help the breed times, but using forge or brass also allow the possibility for a Steel which I do not have either. I just wish the breeding dragons allowed for more of the dragons that I do not have as fails. I missed Liberty, but there is no way I have enough dragons to get an Opal. However, if i do not get a Frostfire before next month, I could purchase one. Has anyone done that? Does it feel like you are giving up or cheating when you purchase a dragon that you cannot breed?

Part of the fun of the game is seeing how long it does or doesn't take you to get a dragon, however the enjoyment of this game also is you can play it anyway you want, for example I always wanted an Apoc dragon but started the game to late, so after waiting 10 months for BEB and with several I needed, the Apoc was ridiculously cheap so I bought it. Only dragon I ever bought except for the start of the game, but also have been incredibly lucky (and did a massive amount of speed ups) on some of the harder to get ones. Enjoy the game, the people here on the forum and set your goals the way you want, then share the results with us. Koala to all

I have purchased several dragons. I was fairly new at the game when BFS released Sakura 2nd time around; I was dirt poor in all categories, and I traded in some cash for gems in order to acquire the Sakura. My second, third, and fourth purchases were Apoc, Love, and Mirage, respectively. Bought Apoc and Love during BeB, I took advantage of the gems discount during Thanksgiving, and X-Mas.
I dont think I am cheating or giving up when I purchased the dragon, and if I may put it boldly...some may have argued, "the act of giving up/purchasing the dragon was a mean to support the developers."
The way I see it..it's my game, I play how I see fit.
I forgot, I also purchased Panlong. All and all I got 2.5% of the dragons the easy way.
I too purchased my one and only Love Dragon, during the Valentine's week discount. When first playing I was focusing on getting 2 of each dragon but find it is not that easy. I am saving Gems now but purchased the Liberty Egg for display, just because i was getting inpatient & couldn't stop that last call timer from decreasing its digits!
Its your gems so you can spend them how you like. I think its only cheating if you have a device with jailbreaker and have 10,000 + gems.
