Poutine and BeaverTails - both yummy and wicked on the heart.
Poutine is fresh fries with fresh cheese curds (the cheese scum that squeaks when you eat it, and is to die for when fresh) all covered in gravy.
BeaverTails are large flat beaver tail shaped donut type thingies best served with cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice. A real heart stopper and did I mention worth the drive to Ottawa to have them fresh on the market. Darn just drooled on the keyboard.

Poutine is what separates the Canadians from the boys... Known to make grown men weep... then fall to the ground clutching their heart. The sweet sweet nectar of the gods... drizzled over a bounty cheese curds and fries. Few dishes would a man kill for... Poutine is the dish a man will die for.
It sounds positively dreadful. Never had it and never seen it on a menu here in California. Long, long ago, we used to go camping in Quebec but I do not remember ever being offered poutine.

I've had fresh cheese curds. Yummy! I've had French fries. Also yummy. And good gravy is yummy, but can't quite imagine them all together. If I am ever in Canada, poutine is the first thing I'm going to try. "Beaver tails" will be the second.
We need good recipes for both of these also.

I love squeaky cheese. We've been to tillamook in Oregon where the cheese factory is and they let you sample the curd. It is yummy and does squeak. It's actually whey. The residue (scum) left after the cheese is made.

Yes! Crispy things should be left crispy. My hubby puts milk on cake, makes it all soggy and soupy, yech!
If I ever get to where they make good Poutine I would have to try it, but it really does not sound good.
Aren't cheese curds just cottage cheese without the creaminess?

Me too! Gotta say, poutine sounds weird. I've tried weirder though, so if I ever end up in Canada...

No, cheese curds are more like regular cheddar cheese, but softer with a slightly different texture, and they are irregularly shaped pieces, not solid blocks. They actually are kind of addictive.
