In fact, I don't know if anyone's actually sat down to try and figure out what the potential "best" route would be. Especially when you factor in all the randomness of potental breeding fails to your setup costs...
Solstices are still king. I have run the numbers, but won't list them all down as I still can't seem to convince you that they are a FAR better investment than breeding multiple limiteds to level 15
With the extra nerfs to normal dragons, epics are MUCH better (as they should be). Before, it was technically possible to get more from some limiteds, but in practice, epics are SO much easier and efficient. And a much safer bet due to the significantly lower start up costs.
And you also should bear in mind that if they ever raise the level cap on Epics, which I almost certain they will eventually, Epics will far and away be the best option. If you also bear in mind that they do not yet have giant habitats (or even large habitats for most epics), there is another future potential here.
At the end of the day, you can play however you want. But Epics are the way to go if you want money. That is why they are called 'Epics'
Did I miss why you are breeding SE instead of Solstice+Solstice? Quick small test is showing 50/50 for Solstice+Solstice with shorter breeding/hatching time.
I hadn't thought about it because magic is no longer relevant to me.
But on quick consideration, there is probably little difference in magic (while quite a sizeable difference in cash) - the average time is only marginally longer, and assuming nobody checks their park during the night, you are still very likely to get the same number of breeds in each day regardless of which you use. The main factor is whether on which is better is whether you get the short or long breeds. Which is obviously random.
But yeah, I was talking long term breeding for profit. Which for me, won't start until the new year probably.

Yup, Solstice are definitely better. But I already have an entire island full of them (42) plus another dozen or so floating around my park. Having 2-3 islands of a single dragon seems a bit boring to me.
Plus, there are some benefits in SE over Solstice - in particular, the dual element. Means that if for some reason I have to get rid of them, or if habitat size changes or anything like that, I will have more flexibility in rearranging them.
Also, at the time I decided to get SE instead of Solstices, the breeding rules were all over the shop and breeding for profit was more or less useless. So the extra breeding/incubation time was irrelevant - basically, it just dragged the goal out for longer. But now with the light dragons looking very viable for breeding for profit, the decision to get SE instead of Solstices will cost me quite a considerable amount of cash.
But it will look cool to have 42 SEs in an island of moon habitats
Lol, I don't even bother trying to find party hats among all the SEs, it's like looking into the sun. Yeah, all that blue and gold together should look nice together. Thanks for the answer. Plan to breed a few Solstice while waiting for the Dark to arrive.
Reading about the old posts here, I'm thinking the disappearance of the wheel of fortune has improved the odds of getting perch pieces? I've gotten my last piece yesterday and looking back at a long period of inactivity from DV I admit I must've had lots of luck getting my pieces together starting from right behind 2.0 update. Most of them from golden (even a few silver) racetrack chests and few questrewards (which mostly turned duplicate). I also noticed when I found a duplicate piece inside a chest, the track would go into 'cleaning up' state and would take some time to let me race again. Other then those small wait times I could keep doing races endlessly and probally rack up lots of pieces.

It's very hard to compare the odds on something like that. There cannot be a large enough sample to be statistically significant as once you get all the pieces you cannot try any more. You would need to start a new park to keep trying, and that in itself would alter the testing conditions.
I do know though that when I was trying for kairos, I found the race track the most reliable way to get new pieces. In two different parks. That was well before DV V2 came out. Also I found that as I progressed up levels, the track cleanup became more prevalent. Now I am on L50, I find I have to wait at least a minute after every race. I am looking forward to getting enough magic for my last giant habitat so I can stop racing again. Some time tomorrow I hope. provided the event doesn't finish too soon.

Am done with earning magic and had very few race track cleanings. One time required a short wait, the other allowed instant racing again. Glad I didn't have your waits.
I quite like the 7000 magic cap. Though probably not for the reasons BFS set it.
My little park is at 6985/9999 and my big one at 957/14000
I would really like my little park to get the giant habitat, but am not too fussed about the extra dragon for the big park. So by storing magic in the buffer. I am delaying the end of the event by just a little. This increases my chances of achieving the giant habitat.
Once I achieve that goal I will use the strategy in both parks. This will assist others to achieve their goals within whatever time we have left. And if I manage to fill the buffer twice and get the third egg, that will be a nice, but not essential bonus

I have less than 200 to go to max dark. Once I do, I also plan to hold on to my magic so that others can reach their goals. Therefore, I am also glad the bucket max was raised. I will also try to slow my magic production by not visiting and racing. Also, since I have no limiteds to work on at the moment, for the first time since before October started, I won't be spending gems to speed up fails. I will also limit how much I raise up my new light hybrids that I can now work on obtaining. Putting all these together should help my bucket fill very slowly. I hope that the event will end before my bucket fills.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

I just want to remind everyone that has reached max rewards, that it doesn't matter how much the bucket holds. You don't have to keep earning magic for any reason, and if your bucket is full then the magic stops being earned.

Does't the pop up warning you that your bucket is full keep showing up though?
Sold my Dragon Track...now finding ways to rid off the Shrines, and store FoY, to free up some room. Shrines, the only option is to move them around. They are a bit scary to look at.

I know it was doing it before...
I don't know. I've never filled it. lol. I can see how that would get annoying.

Apparently I hit the koala jackpot this morning. Bronze (finally) on the island and Topaz (to check off the "goal" BFS set for me) in the cave. And with that Bronze, I will *finally* have all the dragons. 14 months after I started playing. Phew. And, of course, now it it time for Dark to be released - and with my luck, Dark & its hybrids will be released before my Bronze hatches. I'll never be "caught up"
I tell you, there is something magical about breeding between 5:45-6:15a.m. local time. That is when I have my best results.
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all/Gloom, despair, and agony on me... {HeeHaw, 1970s - totally showing my age)
Congratulations shoemom. I also had koala on going back to normal breeding goals, a SE in each park, with a second Bronze and a Topaz shared between the parks. I'll now have 5 gem dragons in park 2.
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...

Congrats! I know from experience that it's hard to get that last dragon. I've had it happen where I was only a few hours away from hatching the final dragon, but then having a new dragon be realeased. You may want to speed the Bronze up if you can... we're for sure getting the quarterly gemstone this week D:
