To breed evolve dragons (or a pedestal), both parents must be the target dragon. Ghostly Earth + Ghostly Earth, Jadice + Jadice, Saccharine + Saccharine, Trepak + Trepak. Happy Pedestaling!

If you log into DV World, which I did today to see it one last time, there's an in game message with the same information. Game is shutting down, and its missing from the app store already. I would think they would rather just let it run and collect the occasional in app purchase. This gives me some fear that the same fate will hit DV next year.
I think it’s better to disable in-app purchases for games that are no longer supported. If not, players will unwittingly spend money, then rightfully be very upset when they send a help ticket and there’s no reply. DV World may have lacked new content and updates for a while, but it still had support, until DV World employees were laid off last month.
I share your concern of DragonVale following a similar fate after the last event concludes and the DV team departs. From Hasbro’s perspective, I never understood why they would keep DV running unsupported. If they’re really as horrible and greedy as everyone makes them out to be, this would be an incredibly generous gesture that only benefits the players. Maybe there’s a financial reason to keep DV open, like they’re trying to sell it and it’s more attractive with a player base. It’s a stretch, I know, just trying to rationally postpone the remarkably difficult task of saying goodbye to DragonVale.

I've been thinking something similar, wondering if maybe they would sell it and let someone else takeover.
Another thought is that they could make BEB permanent, leaving the game in a state where you could just keep going and try for whatever you want without having new events. This could possibly happen if they connect BEB to the winter event and leave them running through February. After that they might say so long and keep BEB going until the app is no longer playable.
Hopefully they're hanging on for a reason, one that might allow us to keep our game. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine someone buying this game to keep it alive. After all, it is very popular. Surely there must be some company out there who would enjoy buying it and bringing it back to life.

Crowd/fan funded? Give a little page? Etc ahh I’m dreaming....🙃
adlerist, Could be that just the revenue from players watching the ads is enough to keep two employees on to keep DV recycling though the already created content. I wondered why they would abandon their Transformers app as it is a direct offshoot and supports their toy sales. Has there been any word on shutting that one down?
Transformers was developed outside of Backflip and was only produced by their company. There will be no impact to that game and their development team will be taking on support and production of their game. It will continue to get future updates.

Transformers Earth Wars isn’t affected by BFS’s closure because it’s run by Space Ape. DragonVale doesn’t have that benefit; it falls when Backflip falls. Here’s an article that describes Transformers’ position.
If they keep the ads in the game, I don’t think it’ll generate much revenue because they’re going to lose a lot of players with no new content. But maybe the drop-off in players will be more gradual, and they can justify keeping the game up for a little while. I hope so.
Edit: in the article I linked a Hasbro rep said 'all employees will ultimately be departing the organization'. So it does not appear they’re planning on retaining any BFS employees to oversee DV. DragonVale would need to run unsupported, free from human interference, and on its own.

Let me get this straight.
Hasbro, the company who makes toys for Star Wars, Transformers, My Little Pony, Monopoly, Nerf, Power Rangers, Scrabble, Jenga, Trivia Pursuit, Trolls, Marvel, and Sesame Street, and who owns all the trademarks and products for Parker Brothers and Milton Fricking Bradley, doesn't have enough money to keep a single server open for Dragonvale or allow us to port our parks to our own devices?
Preposterous. I will keep this in mind when making future toy purchases.

So it does appear we'll get an om on noms event this year, from changes I see today. And we got a bunch of new social icons under 'other' in the social area.
It doesn't look a full blown new event, perhaps a re-release of last year's event.

What does it mean “port our park to our own devices”? I think I like the sound of that.
i did my Christmas shopping yesterday, not a single Hasbro product was purchased. My own little protest.🤑

this is something I was thinking of too. I would pay for an app that allows me to download my park to a local device. Even if there would be no new content, no gem exchange and no coop cave. I would love to purely visit and enjoy my dragons

I contacted BFS for an offline version This is the answer I got: ------------------

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out! We appreciate the support and kind words. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to create an offline version of the game at this time. That said, we look forward to adding more content and events in DragonVale this season.
Best Regards, Mike
Thanks for contacting Backflip Studios. We will never ask for any of your account passwords, your security is paramount to us.
We are proud to be a Colorado-based team providing support Monday through Friday

And it took Mike only about 1 hour to answer my question

It seems like they’re behind on the release of the events. I wish this Halloween one would end (it should have like 2 weeks ago). I’m sick of seeing ghosts and pumpkins already. But I guess I shouldn’t complain, and just need to enjoy it while it lasts.

I had hope that they would leave servers up and just run on automation making as much off of IAP’s as they could but now with DVW closing up shop that hope is dwindling. They must be doing a last hoorah with Christmas event and BEB. All they say is “this season”. If the game was going on after without updates why wouldn’t they go ahead and say so... Holding out hope a super rich kid is addicted to Dragonvale and their parents find a way to keep their favorite game. Willy Wonka anyone...Daddy I want Dragonvale!!! I want it NOW!!!
So we have Om of Noms going on now but I can't remember which treats were the best buy for the dragoncash. Anyone remember or should I just go hunt down archived pages and look it up myself?

Anyone else get the feeling that they did this on purpose?
The lack of event currency, no exchange for prizes with only the ability to buy newer prize dragons. It seems like a setup to force people into spending as much real life money on gems as possible. Or maybe that's just my disdain and disgust for Hasbro talking.
Or maybe this is how it is now, events on repeat with limited options until they either delete the game or find a better way to run things. If nothing else, at least I'll have the opportunity to get a Harvest Moon. And if all else fails, I'm using a wish.
Happy holidays indeed, Hasbro. 😛
