I have only 44 gems left from my limited dragon chasing, I only started in November so I basically had to chase down every single limited before then, i.e. leap year, blue moon, love, bloom, firework, clover, etc.
As such, I won't be spending any gems on the Garnet. Can't wait to get started though, island busy another day though for my emerald and nursery backed up due to all the emerald fails... 497 gems later ugh.
I think I've been pretty successful these past few weeks, went through +/- 700 gems speeding up fails, here's my haul: 4 LYD 2 Apoc. 2 Sakura 2 Bloom 2 Love 2 Butterfly 2 Clover 2 Gift 2 Bluemoon (didn't want them) 1 Sun 1 Moon 1 Rainbow

Got the emerald and pearl and only burned through 150 gems to get them. Just need the platinum and the garnet now and I'll be complete.
I feel like I wasted some time trying to get a breeding pair of Paper Dragons (Fire,Plant, Earth,Cold) since we have Gift (Plant,Fire,Cold) and Reindeer (Cold,Plant)
I've got a breeding pair of Panlongs (water, Earth, Fire, Air) as well
Oh and I'm 45/50 on the Fire Shrine now without more than 2 of any of the above. (just on fails from the stuff I've been breeding for over this Limited time)
I've got 7 Obsidians, 6 Smokes, 5 Blazings, 4 Crystals (already sold 2), 8 Lavas... Any reason to hold onto ALL of these after I get them up to 10? It seems like it makes more sense to liquidate them for more space in the Hibernation Cave and when its time to turn Silvers into Gold, use dragons like the Reindeer and Panlong (perhaps) Or something that comes out in the future to replace them.

Given the description, my first thought was firework and sandstorm which I tried several times then gave up. This morning I cleared out those fails from the hatchery- 2 obsidions, and 2 smokes. Lol. Perhaps the universe was trying to give me a clue.
You asked for a pic of the hatchery with all Limiteds. Well not that this is what I wanted. But trying for second Apoc and Garnet got this lovely group! Uggghhhhh
On another note Hubby got every dragon he needed last night within 10 minutes then this morning got his Apoc. I have bred over 70 times without the second! I WILL buy him if I can not breed it before the 9th. But would rather breed him! Thank goodness for all the gift cards! They have come in handy!
So, my phone is officially done breeding for limiteds at the moment. No second LYD, but I got a third paper when I was sure the second one would be a moss. One 48 hour fail (which is still a perfectly good reason to be happy at level 17) and the first Panlong in the island.
On my ipad, I've gotten my third LYD and have no appoc to speak of yet. :/ At least that one goes until the ninth. Got bloom dragons though. ^_^ I might be able to start shrine grinding soon. They are all pitifully still bronze, aside from two.
All in all, I would consider this successful. I got at least 1 LYD for both of my accounts, which, if they make another rainbow type dragon, I might be able to breed it with, kind of like all the sun and moon types that you can breed together. Anyways, I am happy. ^_^

As soon as both my current fails for other dragons finish breeding, I'm going to try Current/Sandstorm for the Garnet. I've not been lucky at breeding, though, even on the EBI.
As far as I know, BFS said at some point that opposite dragons will never form part of the combos to get gemstone dragons. I have no facts to back this, I just remember this from when the guys were searching for the turquoise combo.
BFS isn't known for giving out this type of information. Their website has FAQ info, they don't reply to questions on their Facebook page, and to my knowledge they have never given specific information on breeding gem dragons anywhere. Would love to know where to find that info if it does exist.
The "rules" we do know come from people who read the game rules, or from long-term observation which can change at any time. They are famous for making fools of us because we thought we knew a rule.

Yike! One if the fails for garnet is solar eclipse. So, what did I get - in the cave, no less?? Of course...

Indeed! Thx Shirley. But, when it finally does hatch I can sell it for a lot (I'm trying to build up cas reserves at this point), and, luckily, it's only the second of the month! 29 more days to try
First garnet took a couple of tries, second garnet was painful, especially because 2 of the many many fails were SEs! Not paid any attention but just realised yesterday that gift could now be bred, just as well, could've missed getting an egg for display.

I need help. Serious help.
Dunno if I need like mental therapy because I'm becoming this crazy about digital pixels or what. It's really just a bunch of computer animated pixels. But my eyes are hurting from staring at a tiny little screen, shoving more pixels in some more pixels...sigh, I knew I was becoming crazier by the minute!
I have burnt through so many gems. But it's not happening. The LYD hates me, and I know it. We have played at this game before. I shove dragons in a cave, he makes sure I get fails. I grit my teeth, burn through many more gems...and have yet to see a golden dragon.
I need him very badly. He will become the must-see at my park. We have waited so long for a Leap Year dragon, but he has yet to show his face. I know we are losing our patience here. No dragon are ready to hatch. They aren't done breeding quite yet either. I sit at my laptop typing this while sipping VitaminWater Zero (it's really good, by the way) and madly putting more dragons in my caves to make this golden mystery! Mark my words, Leap Year, you will come here. You will meet new dragons, and make new friends. You will earn cash and look really pretty. You will have a home here!!
