I am trying to get the Moon dragon and when I try to figure out the right combo, there are different answers at the breeding-sandbox and at the dragonvaledb.com. The sandbox says 3% moon of the lichen+bloom combo and dragonvaledb.com says 12,5% probability. Who shall rely upon?

Below is a story about how I set out to get each and every limited dragon with the BFS Bring 'em Back "campaign" by 2 January. I bought myself a $100 voucher and bought both my wife and I $50 worth of gems each, which is 1500 gems.
I only allowed myself to get these gems on Christmas day, as this was my Christmas present from me to me and of course for my wife.
When I initially started, I was pessimistic with the entire endeavor, thinking I will only be able to get the normal limited dragons without any gem dragons. Please keep in mind I only started playing on 1 November so I basically only had Solar, Lunar, Solstice, Reindeer, Topaz and Turquoise limited dragons. That means I basically had to get them all, as you will see in the spreadsheet below.
When the campaign started, I was still chasing Apocalypse (and still am....) and I got 2 blue moon and 2 leap year dragon fails. This made me think that the odds seem a bit higher than usual and I started feeling for optimistic. As soon as I had these fails, I started going for paper, which I also got a breeding pair before Christmas, 2 in a row.
What I then did was list all the dragons I required in Excel, then sort them by their average fail times, which I got from the famous breeding sandbox. Based on that I reckoned that I should be able to get each dragon within 10 tries, that's about 10% probability to get the dragons, less the clearing of the nursery of course...
The rest of the story is pretty self-explanatory from the spreadsheet, showing how many gems I spent per dragon.
Some rules I forced upon myself: - Only use the island (higher odds of course) - No "greedy" gem spending when I could wait 10-15 minutes for instance to save on a gem. - Targets are not to be burnt out of the island. Exceptions to this was the bloom because I got them back to back, the Sakura as it's breeding time matched bone and lava, and the gem dragons which I allowed myself to kick out with 12 gems, otherwise I would not have made the 2 January deadline.
What it doesn't tell however is how many times I was lucky. For instance, Butterfly, Clover, Bloom and Sakura I got back to back. Opal I got on the second try.
You will also notice that bone is not listed, that's merely because of so many combos had them as fails and I ended up getting it anyway. I wish I did the same with firework as the ruby combo gave me 3 of them. I was also permanently breeding ice/mud in the cave to try and get my ghost, which I only got one. The two others I got from one of the gem fails, emerald I think. I also used the cave to get my second gift dragon, hence the low amount of gems spent there.
I was well on my way to finish up with 300 odd gems in the bank once done, but the emerald really really hurt me and as the world would have it, statistics worked itself out in the end...

OMG, this is awesome. This is truly impressive starting out from November 1st. Looks like you had quite some koala from this "Bring Em Back" event.

WOW! You obviously have a head for the game. To start November 1 and be this far along really takes some thinking and planning. Love the spreadsheet, huge congrats!
Yay!!! Congrats to you. Are you caught up now on the limiteds?
For the most part. I need a display for Turquoise and Topaz, and a second Gift dragon would be nice. Working on the Turquoise now. Hopefully it will happen quicker than the first one did!
Amazing how long this event is continuing, hope it is long enough to get the extra dragons you want. koala!

This is fantastic! I'm all about putting things into excel documents. This is a really interesting chart, mind if I ask a question about it? Sorry, I just love tracking sheets of all kinds.
You've got 2 collumns (Gems@10 and Gems@15) I think I understand them. It's 2*[avg fail time]*[10/15 tries] The @10 number was then used as your budget. Then all the under/over spends were combined and the 144 is the total amount you wen over gem budget. Am I reading this right?

This might sound kinda stupid, but if theres a time where I am really struggling to breed a dragon, I'll write it a little note and beg it to be bred ;D so I'm going to do that in my head today...begging the LYD to come to me! XD
I desperately need to buy the large moon habitat to free up some habitat slots, but it doesn't show up in my store even though I am level 18. The only ones if a similar price point are treasure and apocalypse.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!
If you click on your existing Moon Habitat, you should be able to upgrade it to the larger one.

Arrrgh, where is my butterfly? I spent 100 gems already and keep getting smoke (my ninth in 2 days) BTW, how do you take screenshots with an ipad? And how do you post them?

To take a screenshot, press down the round button on the front of your iPad and then press the on/off button at the same time. It will make a click noise and your screen will flash for a second. You'll find the screenshot in you photos section on your iPad. When you hit reply to any post, there is a button that says choose file. Press that and choose existing which will bring up your photos. Then choose the screenshot. Or you can use photobucket or another online photo storage and insert using HTML, but that's more of a pain.

Press your on off button and home button simultaneously. To add photo hit quote for whop you want to answer and then choose file... Self explanatory after that...

When I click on my moon habitats, I don't get the upgrade option. I have upgraded all other kids of habitats with no problem. Ideas? I am level 18.
The wiki says the Large Moon Habitat only becomes available when you hit level 20. If you bump up a couple levels you'll be able to upgrade it.
I've got the same problem. I've got 3 Rainbow-habit dragons at lvl 23. Eagerly Awaiting lvl 24 so I can make one of my Rainbow habitats larger. (Decided I wouldn't commit more than 2 slots to Rainbow habitats no matter what for now)

Welcome! The Large Moon habitat becomes available at level 20.
