My parks are now at Level 25 and the pace and tone of the game is changing a bit. For instance, the attainment of silver in one of my shrines has caused me to pay closer attention to how I'm using boosts. I feel a greater sense of frustration when I can't seem to breed a desired dragon because I now have most of the hybrids so the failed attempts aren't giving me anything new. But it's also nice to have a full pantry; when a new dragon is available I usually have the breeding pair on hand. I have to say that having so many internet resources, including this excellent community, has been a huge factor in the direction I've taken. I've been reading a lot of threads from the early days and those give me a sense of what you pioneer players faced. It sometimes feels like cheating to use a resource like the sandbox. On the other hand, it's there so why not! The wish list/ suggestions thread is fascinating. So many of the aspects of the game that I take for granted (e.g the HC) seem to be the direct result of ideas that originated in this community. Very cool! What a difference luck makes! Park 1 still has the edge when it comes to earnings; there I've had more luck in breeding rare dragons. The exception is gem dragons. That park can't seem to breed a gemstone dragon. That lack of luck in Park 2 translates to a greater variety and larger number of low level dragons resulting in one shrine turning silver and two more within a couple of dragons of silver. Still, I see the latter park falling behind at this point because I can barely afford to feed them past level 10. And speaking of luck... we started a park for my 3 year old granddaughter on her mommy's kindle. We sneak in from time to time to clean things up or suggest breeding combos but we mainly just let her play. (It's a bit unsettling to see how much a non-reading preschooler can do on an electronic device.) She just reached Level 14 and got a cotton on her first try! One of my parks is still waiting after countless tries! So that's that.

Second park is in hiatus as my smartphone has died and been sent for repair or replacement.
It's so frustrating as I had managed to breed hybrids and was going for a cotton dragon. Will not get that now. Will probably miss getting Summer and Equinox too...
Not a happy bunny.
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...

It sounds you are running multiple devices with different parks on each. I do the same.
Are you on game centre? If so, you can sign out of one I'd and log in to the other ID. Do what you need to do in that park, then switchch back. A bit of a PITA, but it might get you out of a tight spot.

I play on a smartphone with 2 fb logins. The phone bricked while I was away from home on a school field trip. So I cannot play DV at all atm. Severe withdrawal symptoms are kicking in.
I don't know anyone with a spare handset or kindle fire so I am stuck until the phone comes back from the repair centre.
I'll ask for a kindle fire for my birthday...

Too many dragons! My HC is full. I don't yet have the 100 gems for the next upgrade. I can stop breeding for a while or I can sell extra dragons. In general is it better to sell a dragon as soon as you hatch it or does it pay off to feed it to Level 10 first?

If you feed a dragon and then sell it, you're kinda wasting dragon cash. The sell price is the same regardless of if that dragon is level 1 or level 20.
However, you'll generally want to feed dragons to level 10 in order to make your Bronze shrines Silver. And then to level 15 in order to make your Silver shrines Gold.
You can sell a level 10 (or 15) dragon after it's been recorded by the shrine and it will still count towards the 50 dragon total.
But if you sell that dragon before you have the appropriate shrine(s), then it will not be counted for your total at all.
Different people approach that different ways as well though...

Sometimes I have to remind myself that they are merely pixels on a phone. I suppose the compromise for now might be to sell at Level 10 if the associated shrine(s) have already turned silver.

I would look at the selling price of the dragon. If you plant either sarjin pepper, omega squash, or beanstalk, it will cost you 500K DC to level a dragon up to level 10. If the selling price of the newly hatched dragon is at least 500K than you are at least breaking even if you level it up to 10 before you sell it.
Some other information that might be helpful is the elemental break down of all the dragons that have been released so far.
So assuming you try to collect two of every dragon, eventually your Plant, Earth, and Fire shrines will upgrade without extra dragons. All the other shrines currently need extras. This works out well because the Plant, Earth, and Fire dragons tend to the have the lowest selling cost so you could concentrate on only leveling up the extra dragons for the other elements.

This makes no sense that I can see. If the shrine is already silver, there is no point feeding the dragon at all before you sell it. Unless of course you are going for gold. In which case you need to feed it to L15 before you sell it.
If your shrines are bronze, you can sell the dragon as soon as it reaches L10. And it will still count towards silver. You don't need to wait for the shrine to turn. Of course, then you cannot use that dragon to count towards gold.
Me, I sell eggs straight off the hatchery if that particular dragon does not count towards one of my (personal) goals. In my big park, that means nearly all breedings get sold straight away as I have nearly all the dragons and eggs I want. I keep more in my little park as I still have a lot of dragons to get. all my shrines are still bronze there as that has not been a goal for me. That may change soon as I am mostly only winning silver, and that's beginning to annoy me. I have enough food and dragons to change them instantly.

It made no sense because I didn't know quite what I was asking. I was probably caffeine deprived. I need a short term solution until I can upgrade my HC in about 10 days. I just need a few extra slots so I can keep trying to breed for the current time sensitive guys. I don't need a dozen or so rains and fogs.

Ok. That makes more sense. If you need to get the silver, feed then sell. If you don't need the silver, sell straight away. Keep in mind all the dragons you are getting are fails of your time limited goals, so you are likely to get more of them sooner than later.
Also look at all your dragons, both in the park and in hibernation. Check their elements against the ones you need for shrines and get rid of any that don't help. Also consider your goals here. If you are after two of each, then make sure you keep two but sell off the surplus. Selling metals is a good way to boost DC so you can buy food to level more dragons but they also tend to be lowest on your shrine count, so be wary of selling too many.

Managed to scrape my first Equinox in the nick of time before it departed. It looks very much like the same has happened with Sapphire; 24 hr breeding at 4.45pm BST. Now I know what my next little park goal is: the gemstone island.
So happy.

This is longer than I planned - I hope it's interesting to someone!
I started playing almost two months ago, and thought I had a handle on things until 2.0 changed it all up. :-) This site, the sandbox, and the wiki have all been really valuable to me - my thanks to all who built them! I can't contribute much at this point, but I can answer the question this thread poses.
When I started, I quickly decided that I wanted to build as many habitats as possible and fill them all, leveling up dragons fairly evenly to maximize DC and therefore food production. I also wanted to breed a variety of dragons in different orders to see what happened. (I hadn't looked for help sites yet.) I spent $6 to have gems for leveling up my nursery and buying the breeding island. Fun! That's the last I spent, though I believe I'll spend another $.99 for magic & the upgrade.
About a week later, I saw that the Peridot dragon would be expiring, so I went searching the web for help. I found the wiki, and then the sandbox. On August 31, the breeding cave said 31 hours. I didn't know what would happen once the Peridot expired - would my dragons still produce the egg? Would the nursery still hatch a Peridot? That's when I searched more and found this site. I didn't find the answer, but found so much helpful information.
Learning how to get two gems per completed goal by clicking on twitter & Facebook was such a gift!
My three children started playing a week or so after I did, so we have been gifting each other daily. I saved gems until I could upgrade both breeding areas, and then started buying the giant habitats. I'd like to save up gems now for the gifting tree, so I could add a few more friends and return gifts to them.
Threads like the Top Tips and the Tips for Beginners were super helpful. Once I learned about the shrines, I started to work on them slowly. Then I found the Monthly Forecast, and that helped me focus. I had four at silver and three more within ten dragons when 2.0 came out.
I started Kairos around level 17. I did one quest, but the rest of the pieces came from the racetrack. I wish I'd understood how the experience for duplicate pieces increased per level, because I would have waited a few more levels before I got it. The track was invaluable. (My little ones liked playing it for me before they got it themselves, or I'd not have leveled so quickly!)
I wasn't overwhelmed by the talk of level 20 dragons and tons of Panlong dragons; I just looked at ways I could work toward good cash production. The Cotton Dragon was wonderful. I bred one quickly, and finally got a second with a day or two to go. I bred a few more before the Rift changed the breeding rules.
One of the most impressive things I have seen in the forums was the amount of gems people have so they can test breeding & feeding so quickly. I really appreciate the information you all gather from that. I've been spending down to almost no cash & no food as fast as I can, to build up production; gems went to the upgrades then giant habitats as quickly as I had enough.
I made it to level 45 on October 2 and settled in to work on breeding an Opal and improving the shrines.
Working on the limited dragons such as Opal (still trying), Equinox (got one), and Ghost (just got that one), slowed my progress on shrines, breeding for cash, and even breeding all the simple hybrids.
My park isn't lovely - I maximized the boosts and jammed in the habitats. Just bought the fifth island after the Rift, since we could have more habitats (YAY!) and magic for clearing. 50M for the sixth island is going to take a few days. I'd love to see some advanced parks but as I said I can't return gifts yet, so I don't know if anyone would want to add me to their game center.
Thanks again for all the helpful posts you have made.
Michele, if you play on apple, many of us include our GCID in our signature, which means we don't mind having more friends who can check out our parks and collect party hats. Being someone's friend does not mean you have to share gems. It is just a good way to see what others are doing and to get some extra cash if you don't mind slow load times and hunting throughout our 10 (including gemstone) islands for three small, hard-to-see party hats. You are welcome to add me, and welcome to the forum.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...
