Then I found the Monthly Forecast, and that helped me focus.
Reading this made my day ;D
You may not know it...and you may not read it everyday, but you should feel ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D muitiple times a day.
Among other good things you have contributed to the forum, your forecast helps me plan the game better, organize, focus etc...just dont want things to go unnoticed.
For that, I, Thank You!
Now, now..dont get all emotional okay? I dont want another crying episode ;

We need to be careful though...
I'm only allowed to collect a certain amount of ;D before I hit my 24 hour limit.
Then I have to wiat for the timer to reset... wouldn't want any ;D to go to waste after all...
Now, now..dont get all emotional okay? I dont want another crying episode ;
Hey now!
I wouldn't call it an "episode"... it was more like a... like a brief comercial interuption...
Then I found the Monthly Forecast, and that helped me focus.

Welcome to the forum!
Thanks for the welcome, and I'm so glad to have made your day! I hope your ;D meter has reset, because I should tell you one more thing: A few weeks ago, one of my 12-year-old girls asked me for a bookmark to the monthly forecast thread. She references it frequently, and every time she manages to breed a particular dragon and wants to figure out what to work on next. She shares the info with her siblings, and passed along the bookmark. Since none of us has all the basic hybrids, she likes to figure out which combinations can substitute for the suggested ones.
Although I didn't talk about the kids in my first post, I have to say that watching them figure out the game and seeing how they choose to play has been a large part of why I'm enjoying DV so much. They use the forecast, wiki and sandbox to research and plan, and oh the joy when one succeeds in breeding a rare dragon. ;D

This is super! BS has a knack for figurin' things out, we are very happy to have him here with us. Glad the kids aren't overwhelmed by the shear abundance of the game. It sure has changed since we started, oh so long ago.

I'm very new to DV but my game is technically old because I downloaded it a couple years ago but it just didn't grab me. I can't really put my finger on why that was so at the time, I don't know if it was the dragon artwork or what but I didn't feel compelled to continue. However, I never deleted it off my iPad either so my subconscious must have been telling me something.
So two years later I'm finding myself rather fed up with the games I'd been playing and decided to check out DV again. I swear that after a half hour of playing, I was already hooked. I can't say I regret not starting when I first downloaded it because for some reason it just didn't interest me at all back then but now I can't get enough of it. Also, I absolutely LOVE the fact that DV allows free players to advance the same way as those willing to buy gems, albeit slower, and they still won't miss out on anything. I really appreciate that because I'm so used to mobile game developers being more interested in sucking a player's wallet dry than they are providing an enjoyable gaming experience that's fair for everyone.
Anyway, this site has been absolutely fantastic for all I've learned so far in my short time here and there's so much it can seem overwhelming but I think I'm up to the challenge.

Hi nyx. Welcome again.
If you'd like to share your GCID I'd be happy to friend you and send some gems to help you get started on your journey. Fletch_smf
That's very sweet of you. My gamecenter id is Ror0bear and you'll be my first friend in the game so far, so yay for no longer having an empty friends page, heehee. ;D

Well, just Saturday I created a GC account for my 7 year old so he could have his own park instead of him helping me with "mine". He's already learned the disappointment that comes from using gems for short term gain, using 15 of them to buy magic. Especially when I pointed out that he could have had the same amount of magic by grinding bushes for about 10 minutes. I'm not going to buy any gems for him, instead I'll really be prompting him on how to get them by exchanging with friends. I will probably buy the light/dark habitat upgrades for him for the whopping price of $1.98, as otherwise I don't think he'll have enough magic to get any of the Rift rewards.
As for my park, it's at level 40, and just about 7 months old. I made one small gem purchase back before I found out there were places on teh interweb where you could arrange to do G4G exchanges. I was very very happy with Dragonvale up until the Rift, with one exception. That was back when BFS made the change away from the wheel for the Dragon Track accompanied by the really crappy Treat prizes. I sold the track after placing first 5 times in a row, and earned rewards of 850 Treats each time. Nothing like losing money for your "reward". I had no track for something like 3 months or so. When I heard that BFS had improved the prizes, the track came back.
Now, with the serious jiggling of like/like Epic breeding results, the Rift, and moving the max level to 50 all at once, I'm seriously contemplating putting Dragonvale into hibernation once my son gets a good foothold. Dragonvale is feeling too much like work, and there are other games out there.
How about that for a sucky first post... But, ask a sincere question, get a sincere answer.

Hi scott welcome to the forum. Sounds like your 7 year old is learning some difficult life lessons. My 8 year old grandson is doing the same but he has to keep learning the same one. Just about the time he gets a few gems he spends them to speed up an egg then complains cuz he doesn't have any gems left and wants to play my game cuz I have gems. Haha I say. . Sorry to hear you are frustrated with DV. It can be overwhelming with all the changes. However no one says you have to work hard at it. I am plodding along like always and get what I get. I figure there will be a bring em back time again or the dragons will come around next year. My park is older than yours and it took me a while to figure that out. The unique thing about DV is there is no wrong way to play and it should be for enjoyment. koala to you and don't be a stranger on the forum. It helps in the longevity of the game.

debstoy,
Dragonvale is very much a parenting tool No Dragonvale until homework is done. Spend your gems unwisely - now what are you going to do? And all those words that I make him read. At first my wife was unhappy about the boys and I playing Dragonvale, as she's not a fan at all of gaming. Now she's on board, and even sounds enthused when the boys tell her about a new dragon.
As for myself and DV, I think it's very much a matter of all the changes at once creating a feeling of dissatisfaction and stress. Maybe I just need to lower my sights. Forget about getting every limited dragon the first time I have a chance to breed for it. And no, I really don't need to get max rewards for Light and Dark magic. For instance, I was stressing about the Lunar Eclipse dragon a couple of days ago, when realistically, that dragon is bound to return over and over again. And does it really matter how many Rift eggs I get?
Heck, I know I can back off. I basically said "not worth it" when looking at the odds/fail times for the Bearded Dragon. I was too busy going after my gem dragon at the time.
Then again, maybe all I need is just need a good whinge...

Scott it is a known fact a good whine here on the forum is cleansing and good for the soul. Lol and it can do a lot for getting that darn elusive dragon you've been trying to get all month. Ask most anyone here we have all had our moments. That's what makes being a member of this forum so helpful for the game. There is always someone to celebrate the ecstasy of your wins and the agony of your defeats.

Hi Scott,
My son is six years old and I'm so torn about introducing him to DV. I can't wait to and I know he'd love seeing all the different dragons but he still gets super frustrated when things don't go his way, as far as playing other games go...which to me indicates he's probably not quite ready for the lessons your son is learning. And it sounds like your son has more patience, so maybe in a year mine will as well. I hope so! I want to show him the game sooo badly!
After reading about the recent changes to DV, I'm glad I started playing after they took place because if I had tasted the 100% success for breeding epic dragons, I'd probably be feeling the same way. Instead of hibernation, perhaps just give the game a break for a week or two first?

nyx,
Like taking advise from anoynymous source on the internet is a good idea - but here goes:
The just-turned-7 year old is the older brother. His nearly-5 year old sibling also helps, and he has to do some easier reading and basic counting as well.
With careful application, you too might be able to invoke magic. My spell goes something like this: "Well, there's still time for Dragonvale tonight, but you'll both have to straighten up your room and brush your teeth really fast. No time to goof off."
I'm betting even poems for Zombies doesn't work as well...
Scott
