I started a third park the other day in order to test something on my iPhone. I had no intention of actually keeping it, but now that I have it, I just can't abandon it! And in some ways I think it's a bit easier starting now because of the Co-Op breeding. That free Galaxy dragon is a nice money maker when it's just hanging out for Levels 1-9. I was quickly able to get my second island, upgrade the Galaxy habitat, Coliseum, and (available) large habitats. And, it seems like breeding more Galaxy dragons is super easy because of less available dragons. I got an Antarian and second Andromedan back to back! Now I'm able to breed Rainbow, Double Rainbow, Sun, and Moon, so that might change. But it's still a nice boost for a baby park.

Just started the game on Friday already lvl 13 LOL bought a couple bundles of gems but that may be it. Part of my problem is impatience but I'll get over that eventually? My main difficulty this low is how do you get the exponentially high numbers of gems they want for some items ? 2000 gems for a Sun dragon? I linked my FB and had a couple friends that play but can always use more

Rule number one. Never spend gems on dragons. Could can breed for free with enough patience. Get friends and a colosseum and you can get 11 gems a day free. Welcome.

You get the gems to buy things by not spending them on other things. As you get higher in level, get more dragons, etc. More and more opportunities to acquire gems open themselves up to you. Sun, however, I would recommend NOT buying with gems unless you get to lvl 70 and have LOTS of extra gems and no Sun yet. Other dragons that seem highly desired and expensive now will one day be Just Another Fail looking for another dragon you want. You can potentially trade 3 gems with friends to get 3 a day (6 if you have the Dragonsai Tree. 1 more with the Bush). 5 for gold in the colisseum. More and more as you breed gem dragons and fill up your gem island. And, now, the Crystalline Dragons also give gems on a weekly basis too. And getting lvl 20 primary dragons (a LONG term goal for you. Maybe not something you'll be in position to do until lvl 70!) gives you flagbearers with a chance of gifting gems when found.

I'd make that rarely. Occasionally its a better deal to buy a dragon (esp one on sale) than spend the time (or gems speeding it up) breeding for same said dragon.
Dream for example.
(The only expensive dragon I have yet spent gems on -- though Omen tempted me -- after spending 4 months continually breeding for the first. and I'm still tempted to use my wish for it in the second park rather than breeding)

OK yea I saw on the sandbox that using 2 dragons crossing 4 elements seems to give a very slight chance at sun and moon. Was mainly wondering on how they could be made. My friends list on FB is small and I don't use Game center find it very annoying. My main pickle is trying to get pepper. I have fire and plant to 9 but I keep getting Poison and flower. Will lvl them up more when my treats come ready. I've made it up to 15 and was able to co-op breed but 2 results were 2 lvl 18 needed Any good FB groups to join? Thanks for the help will keep trying !

Hi and welcome. This game is for long haul players. Don't buy any dragon with gems unless as already noted, it is a particularly good deal. Also don't spend gems to speed up food. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you don't already have it, get the colosseum as soon as you can. Choose a dragon for each element in the colosseum events and breed it up as high as you can. It can be the same dragon. For example, you can use cactus for both plant and lightning events. Avoid spending gems to speed up breeding too. Though there are times when it makes sense to break this rule.
You have already discovered the sandbox. That is probably the best single tool for the game. After this forum of course Use it to plan your breedings. It makes sense use a combination that can get you a few extra dragons you are missing For example, apparently, nosferatu has just been released. It is a rare dragon that can be bred with any combination of fire, earth and cold. But if you use Fire and Glacier, you have a chance at Blue Fire as well.

What does the crown symbol do. I know it comes when the dragon is level 11 and better breeding odds but why can you turn it off and on? Does it do something else?

Some people do not like (And/or their device cannot handle) the graphics over the dragon's head once the dragon is over level 10. That crown allows you to turn those graphics off.
I only started a week ago and Im I am logged into game centre but as i know in the iOS 10 update game centre was removed but if you have your game centre linked on an apple computer you can still add friends and access all the other game centre functions. So is it possible that i can add a few friends. My game centre is Calvergent. Please add me

Im pretty sure that GC no longer operates, to add new friends, full stop. I'm hopeful more knowledgeable folk will correct me if I'm wrong ( I'm not v techy) I think now each game needs to develop their own in-game mechanism for friending; some of us are regularly emailing BFS from inside the game to encourage them to do just that...feel free to join in lol
I'm still on ios9 cos I'm too scared of the glitches and for me undesired changes ( like loss of swipe) in 10, and don't want to lose my GC friends; Some have upgraded and lost them, some have kept them. I understand from the various apple related boards that ios11 ( coming out later this year) may fix a lot of the negative ios9 series 'advances' so I may upgrade then.
There is also a need to link your game, we had this in threads a while back, you may find it in the OP for tricks and tips; I'll go looking and repaste it here if I find it. Koala in your park development and enjoyment

Calvergent, Here is hopefully helpful stuff assembled from helpful posts by techy literate valers ( thankyou all!)
DV AND FRIENDS AFTER GC DEMISE:
Existing friends: If you are still on ios9, waiting hoping for BFS to develop an in-game friending system, update DV to current, follow the prompts re FB and binding your park, (see BINDING PARK TO FB tip) ( need to name your park: suggestion name it your forum name and that makes it easier to recognise forum friends) now able to collect FB gem rewards and all friends should be present and correct w names, no personalised icons tho, however those who are on ios10 may be listed as a 'secret admirer'
Or if you are a FB user; Friends list shows after you logout/login to FB in Social every time you login thru GameCenter (You only have to FB bind once after GC login if you have only one park).
Adding Friends: Unfortunately, using Facebook is now the only way to add DV friends. Game Center is no longer an option since the iOs 10 update. If you are logged into both GC and FB, then you will see both your game center friends and your facebook friends. You will need to be logged into FB to gift your FB friends.
BFS response to query re developing in-game friends link "Thank you for your email. The wizards of DragonVale are aware Facebook for friends is not an ideal solution to having friends for some of our players and are still looking into another option! Unfortunately, at this time I have no time frame of when this will be added to the game!"
^*^*^* Missing Friends: When friends disappear, and only the FB ones remain: go to GC, logout and back in. Make sure the button is tapped in Settings. Or Try a hard reset/reboot; hold both buttons on device down until apple appears on screen. Release buttons. Count to 10 slowly, re-activate device ( how to hard reset android I don't know)
^*^*^*^ Game Centre:
Some folk have no access to GC in Settings. GC acting differently across devices for folk; seems it's hanging at times.
^*^*^*^*
Switching between multiple parks:
The order you do the steps is important: (1) Settings/GC/logout/in (2) Park/Options ( to be sure the Park is the same as GC Park, if not, change now ) (3) Park/Social to Logout then Login to FB
Repeat when changing parks. If you don't need to Gift or Coop breed, you can just switch parks in Options without the logout/login.
Park/GC logout/in does not work in Social or Options Park/FB logout/in does not work in Options ^*^*^*
Binding your park:
From BFS: "If some of your Facebook friends are not appearing in your Friends list, or you are unable to return their gifts, it is likely for one of the following reasons: They have not yet updated to DragonVale 3.9.0 or higher or Their park is not "bound" to Facebook Prior to the DragonVale 3.9.0 update it was possible on iOS devices to be signed into Facebook to add friends, but it was not possible to actually save or "bind" your park to a Facebook account. After updating to DragonVale 3.9.0 or 3.10.0, iOS players will need to bind their park to Facebook in order to appear in their friend's parks. To bind a park to a Facebook account: Open DragonVale and tap the "Social" icon. Tap the Facebook button to sign out of Facebook Tap the Facebook button again to sign in and bind your park to Facebook You should receive a prompt asking if you want to associated the park with Facebook. Tap yes. The park should now be bound to Facebook. IMPORTANT: You must use the Facebook button in the Social menu for these instructions. Using the Facebook button in the Switch Parks menu will not work to bind the park. If one of your Facebook friends has updated to DragonVale 3.9.0 or higher and is not appearing in your friends list, please have them bind their park to Facebook using the above instruction".
^*^*^*^*^ FB and errors in park association:
If you accidentally associate your park with another FB account, and lose all your FB friends; logging out and changing accounts won't be accepted by your park: you need to contact BFS Support to unlink and attach your park to correct FB account.

I started paying Dragonvale near its release (back when the bone dragon was still considered secret), so I can't understand what it feels like to start from scratch now, but I did give up on the game after reaching level 40-ish. I briefly picked it up again during the release of the metal dragons and then again during the light and dark event before taking a long break. Now, having gotten back in the saddle in the middle of the roar of the rift, I can say that I find the whole experience overwhelming. There are so many epic dragons that I haven't heard of before, and it just seems impossible to handle. I do think that new players are spared this feeling, considering they're introduced to all this gradually... (Unless they take a look at the wiki and see how many dragons they're actually missing)
SamIAm#6874 Began DV a year ago and became overwhelmed. Took a hiatus and am back at it. Decided to step back this time and not stress over all of the added nuances. I now just enjoy building parks and being excited when I actually do get a new dragon. Getting a dragon to 20 is quite difficult. Maybe if I focused on one dragon at a time, it would be easier? My goal was to collect one of each dragon, but then the Rift was added and I am still not sure how I feel about it. I am definitely still figuring things out...so although I’m over level 40, I still consider myself a newbie. I would love to add friends and I would also like to visit other parks.
So I actually started playing Dragonvale ages ago, back when the game was still new and recently came back to the game after a few year hiatus. I think my biggest problem now isn't the fact that I have so many dragons I want to collect; it's simply that I don't know where to start with collecting! Right now I'm trying for the event dragons and the Spring dragon. I wanted to go for the gemstone dragon of the month, but a quick peek at the wiki says all the gemstone dragons are expired at the moment?
Anyway, I'm feeling the newbie overwhelmingness a bit, but it's fun to come back and discover all these cool things! I remember I left just as the light and dark event was finishing and coming back to see that thread expanded into the entire rift dimension is super cool.

Welcome back! Outside sources like the wiki, or even posts here, are not always 100 percent up to date. There are always 2 gemstones and 1 crystalline dragon available at any given time (assuming no Bring 'em Back events are occurring). You can open up the Dragonarium in game and go to the Gemstone dragon section, and look for dragons with the green hourglass to see what's limited but available today. For example, April is the month for Diamond so that dragon will have a green hourglass and can be bred this month.
At this point, I would just look for missing limited dragons that are currently available, and try to breed any of those. Most of those dragons can be found in the news section in game, under the social menu, with timers counting down. For the event, I would certainly collect as many eggs as you can but you might want to focus on buying some of the returning dragons instead of the newest ones. The returning ones in the egg shop are significantly less expensive so you should be able to collect more of them than if you went for just the newest ones.

I’m seriously thinking of beginning another park, and would welcome advice on the mechanics of how to do that, and keep my existing park. It’s hilarious that I began my park so long ago I literally cannot recall how to start...do I redownload it? Ask bfs to set me up with a second? And is it complicated to switch between? And PLEASE say I dont need to use fb to switch between😣😳 I’m not sure how much of the advice above is still relevant, esp w friending and fb binding ?no longer necessary....
I want to be able to gift more, to loyal generous friends, and this may be how to do that 😄 Thanks in advance for any help 😊
woot! Began anyway, so far so good 🤞 such joy to have a fun simple play park 😄
UPDATE; just to clarify, this baby park is so I can pay back existing friends who I struggle to keep up with, returning their gifts. I don’t have any capacity atm for new gift returns, but thank you all for your offers 😊🐲🐲🐲🐲
