I was pleased that I had already started my egg display island, and had decided to breed my pairs of limiteds for the display egg just a week or so before the change. I made sure to get a pair of each if possible for this reason (which as a new player was incredibly stressful trying to nab 2 of every blessed thing, hurriedly breeding missing parent hybrids) with the idea that when I got to a higher level and felt the need for one, and wasn't scrambling so hard against the clock, I could do so.
If this change had come those 2 weeks earlier I would be rather disheartened, but since I was where I wanted to be, it doesn't set me back, just changes things moving forward. And I can live with that. I feel for those who weren't where they wanted to be on that score and got blindsided by the rule change.
The idea of being able to breed my rotting Zombie dragon to my sparkly Moon dragon at some point makes me giggle. That's how we get undead dragons that sparkle in the sun.
Dragons to breed: Clover, Sakura, Diamond, Peridot, SOly, GOly, Bronze and Silver SnOlys, DR, Malachite, and four light and dark hybrids.
I love the challenge of riding my bike to work. It's a great workout, it brings me closer to nature, it elevates both my heart rate and my self-esteem. Bully for me!
BUT, I worked HARD to own a car so that I could have the CHOICE as to whether or not I wanted to ride my bike to work. It's a good thing the rest of life isn't like this little game on my phone. Gee...wait a second. That game IS PART OF MY REAL LIFE. I've paid real money for gems. I've spent more time on it over the last two years than I have riding my bike to work, that's for sure.
I guess, if I wanted some sure bet, I should have bought some game that was contained in a box at the store. My bad.
I certainly CAN'T WAIT to see what wonders this new breeding rule will open up for us.
Why do you play DV in the first place ? Why do you like it ?
If the breeding of any dragon was just : "choose the dragon you want and wait the corresponding time", would you play to such a game ? Would you have kept playing for so long ? Would you be so proud of the park you build ?
"Triumph without peril brings no glory"
Why...........I definitely love the challenge! However, I like challenges that: a.) are well defined b.) are consistent & c.) have a finite time frame so as to allow time to bask in the reward.
Let's look at those individually, shall we?
a.) Well Defined: Hmmm...I'm wondering if BackFlip can define their way out of a paper bag right now. I'm actually of the opinion that they haven't really decided WHAT they want to do as far as breeding rules. "Let's try this on for size!" seems to be their approach.
b.) Consistency: This change shot THAT one out the window. Hah "Hey guys, let's take something that the longest-tenured, loyal players of our game have counted on since day one and flip it completely on its dragon tail so we can make more money. We'll spin it as something we had to do to.....hmmm....keep things interesting? What do you think?"
c.) Finite time frame: In other words: AN END. Most races, competitive games and other challenges in life have an end. This allows one the chance to enjoy the rewards of meeting the challenge, beating the odds, etc. Ummm, yeah... no such luck with "Greed Breed". They moved the finish line and said 'Hey...every time you reach it, we're moving it again!"
Lynkha, I appreciate your question and your opinion. My opinion is that I've played this game since it came out. I've accepted and MET every single challenge thus far (until this update, when I kind of lost steam because of these changes). I busted my behind so I can get two of every dragon, meeting that challenge head on. Yes, I wanted to revel in the victory. If I wanted another Leap Year Dragon, I wanted to casually walk over to my dragon stable, open the door, grab my two Leap Years and say, "Get busy. Go make me an exact clone. I've earned it." I didn't want to have to try multiple times, then either wait 48 hours or pay EVEN MORE GEMS to speed things up, because I DID THAT many, many, MANY times to get the two beauties I have.
Your last phrase speaks not only of triumph and peril...it also speaks of glory. BF just took that glory away.
You can spin it any way you choose...you can talk about the wonderful challenges now or the excitement of not knowing what will come from my two Leap Years going into that cave, but for ME, in MY thinking...it's just not right. This was MY time to enjoy the winner's podium for my accomplishment...and BackFlip robbed me of that. Plain and simple, they've changed the rules pretty dramatically mid-game, and to me, it stinks.
Am I crying and whining? SURE. I've invested enough money, time and energy in this game where I feel I deserve it. This seems to be a thread about the subject.
Will I get over it? Yeah...probably...eventually.

THIS!
I haven't posted in a while. (Hi All! *waves) But I lurk occasionally and I've been following this thread and trying to come up with an eloquent way to express my frustration. I think Wairami just about nailed it.
It used to be getting 2 of a specific was a reward to allow more of that specific. OK, maybe it's not genetically correct, but kids, we ARE talking about digital dragons! Hello!!
Now I'll breed for 1 dragon and an egg. This will cut down on my visits and money spending vs. increasing them. Although to be honest my enthusiasm has never really recovered from their Kairos stunt back in the day. So maybe I'm not a good one to listen too. . .

Hi Wairami,
Thanks for your answer. I think I understand how you feel. You have been playing longer than me and hoped to be able to enjoy the fruit of all your hard labor and investment. And BFS just cheated you away from that.
I, on the other hand, have just finished collecting one of every dragon. The change in rule means that I will need to work a little harder to get an egg of every dragon, but I do not mind that, because otherwise I'm not sure I would keep playing for long (except that we are soon getting a lot of new dragons, but that's another story).
So different experience and different feeling about this change. I guess the older you are in the game, the more you resent the change of well-established rules.
I get being frustrated, but not angry. They have changed a single aspect of breeding, removing the sure thing. Same plus same still nets you the dragon at a higher percentage, just not 100. So you have to work a little harder, if this game was easy to get all the dragons we wouldn't have the contests on this forum.
I have heard quite a bit of you saying you are almost done with the game becuase it was getting boring, not enough spice/change for you to stay interested. So BFS wanted to still get your money so they made this great change of adding the light/dark contest, but also this breeding change.... (That only effects the like+like combo).

The new breeding rules do not only affect like + like, that's just the big change that everyone is focused on...
Zombie is more difficult than either bone or ghost. It is a rare limited which makes the odds of getting one lower. Keep grinding away, hopefully you will find one in your park.
Thank you! I shall not give up!

I'm a bit late on this, but I actually like the change. This is coming from someone who has been playing for quite a long time, with doubles of each parent and an egg display. Though BFS took away the rule, they made accomodations for it.
The only time I ever took advantage of the like + like rule was during the shrine grind. Now, the shrine rules have also changed, and you are no longer required to pump out multitude of Panlongs in order to gild your shrines.
I've already said that I've got all the display eggs. At this point I'm back to waiting for new dragons, and while I'm doing that I'm working on the "hidden goals." (Each dragon has a goal, but the goal only shows up on the goal list when you can actually obtain the dragon. Otherwise the goal remains hidden, but it is still available.) To do this I have to breed like + like for the limiteds. This does mean I'll have a harder time hitting these "hidden goals," but I'm okay with that. I can still reach the goal, it'll just take a little longer.
From what I've noticed like + like gives pretty good chances. Maybe I've just been lucky.
BS put together a list of the known changes to the breeding functionality. I don't know that there were any percentage changes (Well, besides the like + like = 100%) But don't quote me on that!

You've been very gracious to hear me out, Lynkha! In fact, your graciousness has diffused me to a large extent! I kinda just want to sit around a campfire and sing Kumbaya now. (Maybe with a beer!) I understand your position as well.
Just putting it out there - I think the 20% chance of an epic in the island is wrong.
20 attempts with Solstice + Solar Eclipse for nothing so far. All in the island.
According to the Sandbox, I should have a 10% chance of getting each one. The odds of getting neither in 20 shots is about 1%.
I was going to breed just Solstice + Solstice, but th earth fails just seems like such a waste. Plus I already have 51 of them. So I'm thinking of making an island of Solar Eclipses. I've always liked their look anyway. And seeing as airs are the best way of making money under the new breeding rules, it seems like the way to go.
Unfortunately though, I only have 3 Solar Eclipses so can't breed in both locations, although I will have my 4th incubating soon.
It seems like I'd have better odds getting my Solar Eclipse with 2 level 20 dragons rather than Solstice + Solar Eclipse!! Although crappier fail times.
I'm hoping that Solstice and Solar Eclipse ARE possible from this combo. None from 11 in the island seems pretty crappy
I don't care if I've just had bad luck, I just want to know that it is actually possible!
I just logged in to ask this same question. I don't have a second dragon or an egg for either Solstice or Solar Eclipse, so I've bern breeding the two nonstop in my EBI since Solar Eclipse returned. I don't even know how many breedings I've done so far, but all of them have resulted in either Earth or Air eggs so far.
GCID- peanutzmom:) And yes, you need to include the smiley face
I give gems randomly to those who seem to need them because I'm not organized enough to keep a list, but I'm always looking for more Party Hat friends!

Can someone with a test account test this?
Maybe it is a glitch, but I'm beginning to think it is not possible.
I've wasted enough gems on this so far - 20 failures is enough. I'm going to breed Solstice + Solstice until my Solar Eclipse hatches and then I'll breed 2 pairs of Solar Eclipses.
EDIT: Just did Solstice + Solstice in the island. Got a Solstice first shot.
There is definitely something up with Solstice + Solar Eclipse.

100 breedings of Solstice & Solar Eclipse resulted in: 5 Solstice 8 Solar Eclipse 35 Air 52 Earth
It appears to be possible, but mostly unlikely. Not as bad as the Doctor though.

Thanks heaps manahmanah. Good to know that it was actually possible, even if I got highly unlucky.
If you have time, I'd love to see the results of 100 x solar eclipse + solar eclipse.
It appears that like + like has a higher probability when the dragon is 'in season', at least this seemed to be the case with zombie.
EDIT: I hope this is the case - as it makes the limited availability more 'valuable'. If the probability of success is the same at any point in time, there is no point rushing things along while it is in season. But if you have a narrow window with a higher chance of breeding success, I'd certainly rush some along to make the most of it.
EDIT EDIT: My solar eclipses just finished breeding in the cave. Chucked them back in, back to back Solar Eclipses. Certainly looks like like + like has better odds to me!

I certainly agree with this. I've been breeding some limiteds,,, and for the most part I'm hitting them all on the first try. So far I done Bloom, SED, Blue Moon, Love, Ghost and Celtic. A couple of them are in-season, but the rest are not. To me it seems like + like is still pretty reliable.
If you have time, I'd love to see the results of 100 x solar eclipse + solar eclipse.
61 Air 39 Solar Eclipse
While it's a really small sample, it does seem to indicate that it's easier to breed like & like for like, at least while they're 'in season'. I'm going to try 100 Solstice x Solstice breedings to see how the 'out of season' looks.
