Very interested to see the results of Solstice + Solstice. I have 2/6 in the island so far, but obviously very small sample size.
I'm really hoping that when in season, like + like gets a probability boost for success.
If it is the case, then I'll have to try to breed as many solar ecilpses as possible in the next couple of weeks. Which won't be all that many given how long they take!
Oh well, I only need another 37 of them....

Had a chance to run my small Solstice test this morning.
61 Earth 39 Solstice
So it seems like 'in season' & 'out of season' may not be a concern.
Also...does anybody want to hazard a guess as to the odds that independent events within a finite random system produce identical results in sequence over a sample size of 100. I'm sure it isn't that unlikely, given the fixed chance to breed each dragon and the small sample size, and I assume it doesn't actually mean anything for 2.0 breeding, but it is kinda quirky how things go sometimes.
Just putting it out there - I think the 20% chance of an epic in the island is wrong.
20 attempts with Solstice + Solar Eclipse for nothing so far. All in the island.
According to the Sandbox, I should have a 10% chance of getting each one. The odds of getting neither in 20 shots is about 1%.
I was going to breed just Solstice + Solstice, but th earth fails just seems like such a waste. Plus I already have 51 of them. So I'm thinking of making an island of Solar Eclipses. I've always liked their look anyway. And seeing as airs are the best way of making money under the new breeding rules, it seems like the way to go.
Unfortunately though, I only have 3 Solar Eclipses so can't breed in both locations, although I will have my 4th incubating soon.
It seems like I'd have better odds getting my Solar Eclipse with 2 level 20 dragons rather than Solstice + Solar Eclipse!! Although crappier fail times.
Would definitely agree that something strange is going on with the new breeding rules. I use lvl 20 breeding pairs at the moment as I'm too lazy to scroll and have been using them in both cave and island to get magic even though I've not got anything new to breed for. Have bred 2 double rainbows accidentally in less than a week! I was trying to breed last month's gemstone dragon to finish off the goal and it happened first try. Obviously not a really scientific observation due to the small sample size but it's probably the first month where I'm really irritated when I get long incubation times! Might have to go back to breeding the juvies rather than the geriatrics!

You got not just the same numbers, but the same sequence? That does seem rather odd! The game is rigged I say. Nah, probably just a quirk. Seems like it's starting to look to be 40% for Like + Like. I'm surprised, my experience made me think it was higher!

Perhaps I wasn't clear. By 'in sequence' I meant when testing groups of 100 they resulted in a 61/39 split twice in a row, not that all the results within the group of 100 were in the same order.

Ah, that makes more sense. And here I thought you were taking meticulous notes on the subject! I guess that was the conspiracy then...

Interesting... thanks for this.
Were these on the island or in the cave? And same question for the previous batch
Just bred Solar Eclipse + Solar Eclipse and got 8 hours :/
Looks like the breeding rules have changed again...
Anyone want to do a test run and see what is going on? I assume they've fixed it up so the correct elements are in the pool now.
I'm glad I bred a few at least when airs were the only possible fail. Now it is going to take considerably longer to finish pumping out the rest of them :/
So the change makes sense on an intellectual level, however not on a emotional. People do things on their spare time because they enjoy it, not because it makes sense. This completely changes the game. The game was basically about struggling to get two dragons of each, so that you could produce more at will. Sure part of the fun was hoping to get the dragon you wanted when you bred, but the reward was that when you managed to get two, you could produce more at will. It took me 4 months to get my second gold oly, and it felt great finally knowing I could easily get more if I wanted. Also I was about to work on finishing my egg collection, this change totally killed the wish to do that.
So having played computer games for 25 years I have seen genres come, peak, and being rehashed forever. Many fantastic, early games have design flaws, glitches, bugs that players that mastered the games makes use of. As a gamer it feels like you transcended the game and got to another level. You "mastered" the game and now reap the rewards
So in early fps games like quake you had bunnyhopping and rocketjumping so that you could traverse the levels in ways not intended. Part of the fun was mastering these aspects and use it to your advantage. Then you had matches between high level players where they bounced around the mao at will in a frantic pace. This was toned down in quake 2, quake 3, and it doesnt really exist in newer fps:es. It is fine to change it in later games. But dont ever change it in the original. You basically kill it for the people that learned to love it as part of the game.
An additional aspect is that once you fall in love with a game in the genre, it will never be the same playing a later game. This "first love" game will be different for each person. So for me diable 1 was my first love and I didnt enjoy d2 as much while I know much more people fell in love with d2. So dragonvale 1 was my first love, not dragonvale 2.
Backflip, you could have released a dragonvale 2.0 as a separate game with the new rule set. I'm sure it would succed and the old timers that dont like that ruleset could just keep playing dv 1.0 for fun. Now we dont have that option.
So, seeing that for the first time I failed to get a dragon (zombie), i take this as a sign, together with the dv 2.0 stuff, that its time to move on to another game. Dragonvale came at a perfect timing in my life when I was focused on other things and didnt have the time to set down and play multiple hours each day. Dv allowed my to log on using my phone a few times per day for a couple of minutes while still doing good progress. So It was fun while it lasted and I have no regrets playing this game, than you for this time.
It's a shame that you're quitting the game. I think being unable to get the Zombie dragon was probably the final straw for you. But I think that sometimes when the game evolves, our strategy can evolve along with it. It's different, but enjoyment can still be had when you master the changes.
Of course, I'm speaking as a person who's mostly unaffected by the breeding changes, since I've only bred for 1 per dragon. I can't claim to have experienced the frustration many of you have felt.
Anyway, I hope there's a Bring Em Back event this year, so they can bring you back with the Zombie dragon!

I updated my breeding guide.
Looks like the Sandbox was also already updated with the same info.
There's still a few bugs that need to be sqaushed, but it's getting closer to what I expected the system would be like when they first changed it...

Solstice is another that was fixed. Specifically they took out unwanted spaces, so "earth, fire, air" was fixed to be "earth, fire, air". The space truncated the substitute elements, meaning Earth was the only fail. Rectified now.

Before anyone asks... yes, they fixed Lunar Eclipse too... and several others as well.

Hey Fletch, If you can read those rules in readable format, it would be fantastic to get a list of which dragon can give which elements. Would save a lot of people from testing.
dragon list (last dragon : Gatren) DV friend id: Crumble#7733 friend link coop friends always welcome, but all my gems are spoken for

Thanks for your answer. I think I understand how you feel. You have been playing longer than me and hoped to be able to enjoy the fruit of all your hard labor and investment. And BFS just cheated you away from that.
I, on the other hand, have just finished collecting one of every dragon. The change in rule means that I will need to work a little harder to get an egg of every dragon, but I do not mind that, because otherwise I'm not sure I would keep playing for long (except that we are soon getting a lot of new dragons, but that's another story).
So different experience and different feeling about this change. I guess the older you are in the game, the more you resent the change of well-established rules.
You've been very gracious to hear me out, Lynkha! In fact, your graciousness has diffused me to a large extent! I kinda just want to sit around a campfire and sing Kumbaya now. (Maybe with a beer!) I understand your position as well.
