Why are so many interested in having every egg? Is there a specific 'every egg' achievement?
Personally, I have no interest in getting all the eggs. Such a huge waste of space and time.
I think people got bored and this added an additional challenge.
Plus, if they had a decoration made out of eggs, they wanted ALL of the eggs to not have holes. I know some are starting to back off on wanting eggs now that they are changing the rules such that the patterns won't fit anyway
Personally, I only want the eggs I like the look of. Though I haven't figured out what to do with them yet

It's a "completion" challenge. Once you hit lvl 50 and have every dragon it gets a bit boring waiting for new dragon releases. So to fill up the time some have taken the additional challenge of collecting eggs.
But like Vonfirmath said... now that the new dragons are out I'm thinking of scrapping my egg collection. At least for the normal hybrids. I do like the epics, gems and limiteds eggs as they look pretty cool.
No there is no achievement, but this game is about collecting. Therefore, we are collecting eggs now that BFS has kindly made it possible. Most eggs don't take extra time, though. The only eggs I really spent time trying for were limiteds and opposites. I think I have gotten almost all the others as fails. Also, when you get to high levels, you find plenty of time between limiteds. As for space, there is plenty of room for habitats and decorations, you just have to choose which decorations you like best. I like the eggs.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

I still have a hard time getting my head around it.
Just yesterday I got a second Ouroboros on accident. I let the egg sit in the nursery for a while deciding what to do. I mean, it's a pretty cool looking egg, but I'd rather have the 256 DC per minute. So I hatched him. I mean, all those Epics that could be earning money just forever doomed to eggdom is beyond my comprehension.
That said, when I get to level 50 and have every dragon, the last island, and piles of DC, maybe I'll feel differently.
On the other hand, as decorations they aren't that great. I'd rather have a a Topaz Portal and the Horns of Sorec on display than 8 eggs.

And those different likes/choices are what make this game appeal to so many different people.

What may not appeal to you may appeal to others. I personally didn't start collecting eggs until I had started playing for a few months. Collecting eggs didn't appeal to me at first, but looking at other peoples collections convinced me how cool looking it can be. Also, it gives me a personal goal to strive for, which for a game like this is important. It's also why I breed two of each Epic and limited dragon; if I ever need more I can just breed them together (granted it's not as easy with the breeding rule changes) and I'm never feeling like I've missed out on something.

I already have two Oreo's on display and a display egg. If I got another one, I'd hibernate it as a spare (P5!). But anything after that I would probably just sell off. Depends on how much room I have in the HC I guess.
However, once Apoc comes back, I'll retire my baby Zombie and baby Oreo to the HC so that I can put two Apocalypse dragons into that habitat. I liek the way they look and they are better earners.

You might, you might not. Everyone plays differently.
I'm level 50, have all but 7 dragons, max habitats, moderatly large piles of DC and a decent hoard of gems that I will likely blow through in December. Of course, I'm still small potatoes compared to some of our posters
I play the game as a collector first and foremost.
My first concern is dispalying at least one of every dragon in the game. I'd like to display two of every dragon, but that's just not possible at the moment. Despite the breeding changes, I still try to get two of every non-gemstone dragon before I worry about getting a display egg though.
Frankly, I don't care about DC that much at this point. There's very little I need to buy anymore. Most of the big purchases I could make would require gems anyhow, but I've already upgraded everything I want to upgrade. So I wouldn't fret over losing 256/DC per minute. Heck, I think I have at least half a dozen Rainbow Dragons sitting in hibernation at the moment...
I'm not sure what my DC/day is currently looking like, as I recently did a massive round of redecoratiing. But I'm sure it's take a hit. Those Dark and Light draogns aren't exactly high earners
But I still make more than I actually need to spend. Sure, I could blow all my excess on Beanstalks in a couple of hours, but there's no real rush to do so. All my non Epic dragons are 15+ I typiclaly grow a batch of Beans every day, so I can crown a dragon roughly every 10 days or so.
But, I have all the dragons that I NEED Crowned already, so I can honestly take my time crowning the rest. I'll probably do one or two more by December and then I have some spare treats banked so I can crown my first Paper that I hope to get during BeB
Here's the thing though.... I haven't actually been playing the game for even a year yet. So it's not like what I have going on is particularly difficult to accomplish. It might be a little harder now with the new breeding rules, but still possible with planning, persistance and luck.
On the other hand, as decorations they aren't that great. I'd rather have a a Topaz Portal and the Horns of Sorec on display than 8 eggs.
My egg display is pretty massive and I still have room for all the decorations I want, so it's not gotten to a point where I have to choose one over the other
I use my egg collection as proof of how awesome I am (actually lucky)! My egg display is my show off of all the dragons I have collected two of. Plus I like the look of the majority of the eggs, and really like how they look in different grids or patterns.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply Bloodstone. You make good points.
If I ever do get to a point that I have two of everything I can see the appeal of then going for an egg, as it seems that most do. I can understand why many are frustrated that they have their two of everything and will now still have to struggle to get eggs, since the breeding rules changed.

The great strength of DV is that there are so many ways to play it. I have no desire to have dozens of the same dragons on display, but really appreciate the art of the eggs & other decorations. I like to imagine my little visitors roaming through the park, admiring the plants, statues, eggs, etc., in addition to the dragons. And, my goals & approach to the game have changed have changed during the almost two years I've been playing. I'm much more relaxed about it all, knowing that eventually I'll have everything I want. So even having to breed over & over again to get a desired egg for my collection doesn't bother me.
Now I am wondering if there is a reason to keep my "breed a second dragon" policy if they are never bringing back 100% breeding. I bred two of everything just in case I wanted to breed a whole bunch of them for any reason. Just glad I already finished my Rainbow Island!

From what I am seeing, using one matching parent gives you normal odds of getting dragon x. Applying the clone rule. Ie two matching dragons. Gives you about a 40% chance of getting your dragon of choice. Not as good as it used to be, but still worthwhile. Especially if that dragon is limited and out of season as the single parent option has ZERO chance (with a few notable exceptions)

News to me! That helps, thanks!
