Google, IIRC. When the Rift event came up, I was mad for anything that might give me an edge in gathering magic, and ran a search for something like "Dragonvale forum".

I'd already been before on various searches like 'breed + "gold dragon"'. I also visit the sandbox from time to time. But I'm not really a joiner, so I lurked like dragonmum and crumble. Then one day I googled "dragonvale community" (there had to be one, right? So what if it was composed of wizards or dragons, I didn't really mind) and I found the door.
I'm a former forum moderator so there are things I look for in a forum to join. Aloha convinced me.

I spelled out my email address with pavers, Vivianne saw it and contacted me. She spread the word on the other forum and many came over here. As you might suspect, Fletch was a key driving force early on.

Well well well, actually I sort of knew where to find Poppy. On the other forum we were quite chatty and we had found out that Poppy was a piece of the web history. Considering that Game Center (most of the time) shows your real name, it was also easy to track Poppy. The idea to put his email on an island was of course brillant and many could thus get in touch with him and join this new forum. Some already here spread the word on the booh booh forum and were banned for life too for doing this. We even had some traitor who looked who was here and still on the other one and had them banned too. Poppy found Fletch on the net where he used the same nick. The new forum developed very successful, more and more DV players coming just to get tips stayed and became regulars because they liked the people and the help they gave each other. A true success story. But considering Poppy is the maker, it was obviously going to be that way. The only danger is that Poppy finds a new game and gets as obsessed by it as he is/was by DV and thus creates another forum! Poppy, you stick with DV and golf

It's an animated dragon I found years ago, hosted on ImageEvent. You can use other avatars on the forum as long as they fit the size limits and the ProBoards Terms of Service of objectionable content, and have your own hosting service.

Back in August of 2012 I was in Macenstein's forum and a member there had RAVED about the Dragonvale Community Forum. So I just had to check it out and I have been hooked ever since. In fact, after I became a DV forum member I did the same by raving about the forum in Macenstein and also on DV Wiki. That is how impressed I was, and still am, about the Community.
