I think I might have figured out the 5 vs. 10 roses from gem gifts thing. I asked the guy who sent me 10. He hadn't updated the app when he sent the gift, and now that he did, his gifts are worth 5. He doesn't have a Treatery.
Looks like gifts from not-updated people count double. Probably not intentional
Likely IF we are going to have 2 double weekends. (It will be 1st and last)
I can see it being this week and the last week OR next weekend since that is Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th, a Saturday) and the final weekend (just because it would be profitable for BFS to have one since everyone is more likely to spend at the end of the event.) That said, a three week event does make the 'IF' scenario possible. I hope it won't be though
I forgot about Valentines Day. I agree V-day makes it much more likely for doubles next weekend than this.
Anybody know how the Path of Petals will work? Do the path segments unlock for general usage continuing after the event or will they be like Spooky Fences and we'll be limited to what we buy during the event?

1. With treats, does it matter what kind of treats you grow? Or are they worth the same amount of roses? I am saving for tenth island and don't want to use the cash to buy a ton of food.
2. Does it matter WHAT you do with an egg? Is it worth the same amount of roses if you hatch, sell, or display?

1. No it doesn't matter which you grow (don't advise the 24 HR as you will only get rose rewards once!) they all give you a chance at 2 roses on a decreasing return. I start the day with 6 HR treats and then at the end do some quick dragonsnaps (over & over) to get the rest of the treat rewards.
2. Hatching or selling gives you roses... I'm pretty sure displaying them doesn't but I'm not 100% sure on that one!

VB has more than 2.5K in gems, and 150M in treats. Perhaps, your friend's stack of gems/treats determines the number of roses you received.
I don't know if that's a factor.
I received 5 roses from 5 different friends that each sent me a gem. All of them are level 50+ This was the expected result.
I also got 10 roses form one friend, but she sent me treats and a gem, so that was also expected. She's level 60.
Finally, I got 10 roses from a level 17 player sending me a gem. This player doesn't have the treatery (nor a Dragonsai tree/bush if that is at all relevant). They also only have 140 gems to their name. I'll check and see if they have updated the game yet. Pretty sure they have, but not positive.
One thought I had was that maybe the first person you send gifts to in a day receives double? You know, to show your extra affection for that person because they are your valentine or something along those lines. I'm going to check that tonight when my gems refresh.
Could be some other pattern we're not seeing yet, could be totally random... or it could be a glitch

Interesting idea, but you'd think that BFS would tell us if that was the case.
Otherwise, the only effect is that people whose name starts with an A will have an easy time with this event.
Well, tonight, ie 5 hours after the event started i received roses from gems friends ad following: 10, 5,5,5,5 a total of 20 roses Thus, I do not think there is a max nbr, just like for the snowflakes in the previous event. Sorry to bring that line in your chart upside down!
Actually There WAS a maximum for the snowflake event. But it was quite high. Either 120 or 240. (I know 240 was involved but can't remember if that was during doubles) I hit it twice towards the end of the event, and BigZ, I think, admitted to hitting it quite regularly. I am guessing it will be the same for roses. I will even volunteer to be a guinea pig. Every one send me gifts NOW!!!
Viv and I must have both had someone who hadn't updated send us roseless gifts yesterday! What a coincidence!
Hm, well this is a bit of a problem for me! I don't think that anyone is going to receive the max, as 120 would mean 12 friends or more sending you gifts. I'm going to leave my spreadsheet saying that 30 gems is approximate, just for calculation purposes. (6 friends, 5 roses each) obviously you can get more or less depending on how many friends you have and how many roses they send.
The real question is, why aren't they sending a dozen red roses?
A friend of mine sent gifts out today, deliberately sending to me first.
No double roses. So if it is positional, its not the first person!
Oh I also ran into a problem last night. (This may be obvious but its the first time I've run into it) If you play on multiple devices, be sure to update your Dragonvale on ALL devices individually. After updating on my phone I tried accessing my park on a couple of other devices. Both times properly logged in to Gamecenter. On one it just refused to open. On the other it brought up the loading screen and gave me the Lightning problem error message. In both cases the problem turned out to be that Dragonvale was not updated on that device and it worked properly after updating.
An additional problem I am running into is sometimes when I log on today the loading screen comes up... and just sits there. No words on the bottom or anything. There's an x in the upper left hand corner to close it out and get to the REAL loading screen (Loading in the background) but its not obvious and, rather, looks like your device is sitting there trying to get a good network connection and failing both to get one and to clearly NOT get one.

If she sent you roses then her game should be updated. During the winter event people who hadn't updated couldn't send iceberries.
Any tips for finding Gardenia? Does she move at a different speed or anything?
