It's quite possible I would feel differently about this if I were still struggling to get a first Emerald, but these are birthstone dragons & the emerald belongs to May, the pearl to June, etc. There are always going to be players missing a limited dragon because of when they joined the game. I just missed the Clover dragon & its decorations which I would love to have (being 1/2 Irish), but plan on getting those next year (hope they're offered again!). I do wish the floodgates would open so those who are playing now would get at least one, but "losing" is a risk in any game. Or, at least, it used to be--but that's another discussion.

Grrrrr, it makes me mad that BFS has created this quagmire in the first place. If it wasn't ready on May 1st, it shouldn't have been released until next year. Forcing customers to breed an extremely hard dragon in half the allotted time was probably good for their bank accounts, but I don't think it fostered much good will with their fan base.
If they are going to stick with the one month rule, then it should end by June 1st. Extending the deadline wouldn't really be fair to the people who spent gems, lots of them, to speed up fails.
Perhaps they should have made the May dragon a combo that didn't have quite so many long fails if it was going to have 1/2 the time to breed.
End it June 1st, open the gates until May 31st, offer 100 gems for your screw-up.
Bad BFS, muck muck mucky muck!
(you all do realize I will never be able to breed another dragon as long as I live, right?)

I'm not trying to be antagonistic or inflammatory, just logical, but nobody forces anybody to spend gems, and not coming out and displaying an exact deadline is not the same as tricking anyone into spending gems. Not sure where all the bad vibes are coming from, especially considering nobody has anywhere even hinted that the May dragon ends when May ends. Much ado about conjecture.

I'm hoping discussion doesn't mean we have to turn to antagonism or anything inflammatory. It's all good. You make good points. We really do not know when it is going to end. It's not so much trickery as it is the possibility of a shortened breeding time for such a difficult to get dragon. Did they do it on purpose? I don't know.
"There will be a new Gem Dragon available each month based on that month's birthstone." It is a matter of interpretation as to the length of time it will be available, and where on the calendar that length of time will exist. It really would be helpful if BFS could give us more information. It does encourage people to spend gems to get it before it's gone, which does increase their bottom line.
No one is forced to spend gems, but not many people would be happy to miss it, either. It is only a game, but would be a disappointment to miss it. Would I quit if I didn't get one? No, but it would be an irritant to have missed it.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I am not against using/buying gems. Providing income for the devs is a good thing. Everyone deserves to be paid for their work. I look at this game as my entertainment, so am not adverse to paying for it. If they didn't get paid, the game would soon disappear. I am against making an artificially short timeline to encourage to panic buy, if that is indeed what happens.
Is it going to be available next May? If so then I would say it should end midnight May 31.
We believe it will be available every May.
What is the realistic lifecycle of a game like this? I never played one before. Is it even likely that the game can be evolved for another year so that it remains profitable?

Wondering about this, myself. I think BFS is hoping that introducing these birthstone dragons will keep long term players, playing -- trying to get their birthstone , or the ones they missed. But I sure hope each one will use a different combo, getting really tired of crystal/lichen = crystals & moss over and over and over again, ad infinitum.
Yeah, BFS may have to make a business decision some day and we could all wake up and not be able to open the game, whoops, gone, sorry. I hope they keep it around for a long time. In order for that, I assume it has to remain worthwhile to invest their time and efforts into it, which means that I am okay with them turning a profit, and even occasionally turning the screws.
They SHOULD be gone by June, however they SHOULD also be available for a whole month. I think BFS will keep them around until half June, which is also why the load screen mentions emerald and pearl together. It's planning ahead.
Another thing I have noticed is bfs is not putting a 'hurry up and breed one, last chance to get one' type screen up. They usually do this, so maybe they will keep emerald around for a month since it was released late and have an overlap just this month?

This is a very valid point. Other dragons have had a short time span, but they weren't birthstone dragons. Should be month to month. And yes, to extend isn't fair to those who bought and /spent gems. They aren't easy to get, and I've had a few 24 hr crystals too. Those wizards must have put an obfuscation spell on BFS.
On the DV Facebook post is said there will be a new gem dragon available each month, it never says it it is only available only for a month. Maybe they are as hard to get as a rainbow because they are going to stick around like the rainbow. I guess we'll know soon.
With the other limited dragons they are very clear it was going, the more I think about the more I think it's going to stick around.

"Sneak Peek! Gemstone Island and a new class of Gem Dragons are coming soon to DragonVale. There will be a new Gem Dragon available each month based on that month's birthstone.
Did we mention that Gem Dragons earn free gems?!?"
It is true that this bit of info doesn't say the emerald goes away. It only says one will be released each month.

I have two emeralds in my stoomblazer account. Just kept trying. I did not use gems to speed up because I am saving them to upgrade the cave. In my other account Rato45 I am still trying. There I am at level 22 with just one shrine, so I have more things to attend to.

The Pop Up that came up in the game said
A Word from the Wizard Get the Gemstone Island! Gemstone Island is home to the new Emerald Gemstone Dragon. Gemstome dragons earn FREE GEMS and are available for one month only.

They Don't exactly say they are available for the their birth month only though. They say one month only.

Of course, just pointing out they will be disappearing.

The birth month thing just makes sense.
Are we now down to 1 day before we know just how brilliant you are?
