So, I confess I haven't been paying attention to now many ice berries I get from the arena. Does it vary depending on which dragons you choose?
I've used gems to play the Magic Tap game and generally end up with about 30 berries each time. After that, you get to open three chests with prizes. All the duplicate prizes get opened and sold, each one sold is a additional 50 berries. In a nutshell, each 5 gem spent gives you about 80 berries for each chest that produces a duplicate piece if you don't acquire one of the pieces you are looking for, about 240 berries.

Also, don't use gems to finish off your cards, they are much better spent on the magic drop. $0.02

WOW Tanyon! That's a wonderful store of gems you've acquired there - hope you are as frugal in real life!!! But then, you've been playing since just about the beginning of Dragonvale, if I'm correct. I'd be interested to know what YOU feel about the way the game has changed since the beginning?

Yeah, but as someone said earlier in the thread (noodles , on p 8), (which created a mind shift for me) what else you gonna spend your gems on? They’re for gameplay surely? And so if you want these new dragons, that’s partly how you get ‘em... tanyon7 did a good analysis up a couple of posts its a different type of gameplay, and so far I’m enjoying it, even (especially!) the headscratching challenge of the bingo cards lol

I have only seen one possible chest on all my games so far, which I failed to get, so sitting on no decorations. I was working on the theory that if I spent gems I would stop getting the option of chests in the free games, like last time, but looks like i'm not getting the option anyway.

I loaded the game on my dads iPhone the week it came out, I was 7, and played every day until I got my own phone at 10. I've saved for rainy days ever since and it's a good thing. I did play a few times tonight and managed to get some more needed pieces, edited above, even though I am now a bit under 5k, but I'll build it back up. I'm at 13k berries after evolving a coal and gift, hoping to get enough to evolve them all.
I love the game but it's not as much fun as it used to be, too many dragons in too short a time. Now I work too hard just acquire all the dragons and once I get one it's off to the next, rather than feeling like I accomplished a goal and enjoying the new dragon.
I used to be able to recognize the shape of each dragon, the egg of each dragon, now It's just get on to the next before it's too late, no sense of pride or emotion left in the game...which is a shame.
I've been tracking all drops from Magic Tap on three accounts, mine, my wife's and my alts. Almost 700 gems spent, this gives a pretty good idea on rarities of the various items and colors. This only includes magic drop chests, no toy chests that are guaranteed to get you a missing decoration and skew the results are included here. The sums of the colors are on the bottom, and each type on the right.
Black tends to be the rarest color, though you can see Purple Stockings, Red Poinsettia, Black Cocoa Mugs, and Blue Tuplets are very rare. I'm betting that while some things like Gumdrops are rare, there is one color per decoration that is very rare too, a different color for each. Like Green Flutter Fruit, Teal Arc Lamp and then you can take a good guess it'll be Pink Present, Yellow Feather, Orange Nutcracker and White Gumdrop. That covers one of each color.
Edit: Also if you look, the bottom 4 on the list are the rarest and are used to make the unreleased dragons. The top 4 are used in two Coal and two Gift evolutions, and the Flutter Fruit and Present are also a Gift/Coal grouping. It's like there are 4 common items, 2 uncommon, and 4 rare matching pairs of Gift/Coal.

Blast, I’ve made a tactical error and bought four chests...from the prize tent...forgetting I needed to save berries to evolve dragons...aarrgh So, don’t touch the berries until absolutely necessary in order to get the last rare deco in order to be able to evolve... dang! Only have 2000+ berries atm... Plus worked out, use rift breedings for named dragons w long incubation/multiple fails, and use Vale breeds for simple element breeds... Reckon m gonna need ALL the days to make the totals of everything needed 😆
I am not crushing this event. I did finally get the Libretto dragon in my main park, but no completed collections in other games. It takes so long to play that I decided to de-emphasize 2-3 games. I’d retire them, but I need them to return gems and treats to friends. I’ve spent 300-500 gems But my reflexes are lousy so I miss more chests than I tap - and is it dropping even more quickly in the last day, or do I just need more sleep? Still, at least if I spend gems I have a guaranteed chance at a chest and the donation cards haven’t had impossible dragons, so it could be worse. Thanks for everyone’s advice, suggestions and encouragement! Koalas to us all!

Due to a lack of enjoyment of having to tap & repeat so many times over I retired all but my main parks. But I’m still going into each game every day to distribute gems & treats. Only takes 5 minutes rather than extra 90 minutes it used to burn each day!!! I’m a much happier player again 😊

edit; ah, reread list, I’m NOT incubating before selling or using in bingo card, is that it maybe? Cos there’s no daily limit, so no point in waiting til reset before clearing breeding sites, right? And collecting dc doesn’t earn berries, so again no need to wait for reset (cos doughnuts for taishen can be collected thru the day)...

Ok, just noticed today that the description on the Toy Chest changed. It no longer says it's guaranteed to have a new decoration. I really hope that it's just a description change, or there's no way to complete this event and those who bought them early have a major advantage.
So it’s double berries but Santa and the presents only gave me the normal amount. Also the drop game is the same too. Anyone else have this happening???

Same here. No double berries in the presents and Santa, watching visions or playing arcade games. Kind of defeats the excitement of double berries.

Ok, just noticed today that the description on the Toy Chest changed. It no longer says it's guaranteed to have a new decoration. I really hope that it's just a description change, or there's no way to complete this event and those who bought them early have a major advantage.
I doubt very much that their wording is accidental. As a matter of fact I'm sure it's quite purposeful. And it really seems like a lousy thing to do. It's their game and they may be able to change the rules at will and as we all have seen they will, but to do so in the middle of an event seems just wrong. Maybe if we voice our displeasure they will realize how unfair it is to switch the rules after the game has started and to save face will agree with you and say it's just a description change. It's worth a try. I think I will write and complain.

I bought 3 toy chests with iceberries just now & they were all new decorations- so far so good.
However very annoyed about the lack of doubles- I did all my activities before I realised they weren’t actually doubles!

Most of my berries I've accumulated selling duplicate decorations. I didn't know one could get more berries incubating before selling.
Oh and the Mystery Egg gifts have appeared in my gifts again - I appear to be getting them along with gems/treats!
