Yes, chests (and berries) definitely speeded up today. Ugh.
So where are people putting all their deco collections? I thought the 30 items in the Spooky event were challenging, now we have 100 more? I feel like I need to buy the mega island just to keep track of these evolutionary collections. I much prefer the single-item method for evolving the ghostly elementals.
On the plus side, I am extremely happy that the "bingo" donation cards are so reasonable in this event, and also like the daily limit cap so high it's almost impossible, so if people take some days for family time over the holidays they can try to catch up with collecting a bit more on the other days, they aren't just irrevocably missing a few days' berries.
I'm not sure yet how I'll end up in this event, I'm slowly but surely progressing with the decos, no more than 5 of any one type yet, and one park hasn't seen a gumdrop yet, but it seems like it will be okay, except for the sudden limited rarities that seem to be coming for the rare gumdrops, feathers, arc lamps, and nutcrackers. It's going to be quite difficult, and expensive, to get those items before completing the more common collections.

Hey, I think we might have a new winner for best dragon to send for Cold coliseum runs. Or at any rate, we have at least one upgrade. I've been sending Faire, which is maxed at 240 DC; the Libretto I just got is only at level 16 and it's already at 375 DC. It's a rift, so I'm not prepared to take it up to 20 just to find out, and I don't have any other new dragons yet, but there's at least one that earns way more for Cold than the current options (unless I've been missing one all this time?).
I don’t have 10 of any decoration. Keep getting duplicates when playing via extra gems. I’m down to under 200 gems😢 The last events wiped me out, I started to build back up and boom!

2 good posts, ooma & skeeter and sadly, so true. The last 2 Events took me from 4,000 to 1,400 Gems. Then I spent half of that on the Aubergine leaving me w/only 700...and along comes this Event where the only way to get Decos (by design) is to spend Gems. I‘m not (literally) ‘buying’ into it. Just saving berries. I’ll probably never get any of these new ones...
Also, I’ve been receiving Gift & Coal Eggs; 3 of each so far and we can no longer just discard them...

Hatch the eggs. You will get normal, then twin, then rift twin. The rift twin hatches instantly. Leave them unopened till you have the four in twin then tah da. I got umm WAY WAY WAY too many. Feel guilty. I do gift now semi regularly from a second park in a futile attempt to keep up. I am at the point that I’ll NEVER be able to pay everyone back. Sigh. I hate to be that person I try my best but my rotation is now so big that I can’t take anyone else. What do you others do?

Not sure if this always works. But I always check the ball drop game first. If a chest is possible then X out. And switch to ornament drop game. And keep an eye out for the chest. In three tries this way it has always dropped. I ignore everything else and wait for the chest.

Another tip for the Drop game for chests; push up the screen with your fingers (having spread and positioned them along the bottom of the screen) when you see the chest at top of screen, rather than tap;seems to cope with the reduced tap corona (or whatever I should call it...radius?)and I’m missing way fewer by doing that But maaaan the dupes are so frequent; only one new deco out of 6 chests today, even waiting hours between and until reset... Only 1 nutcracker, 2 feathers, 3 arc lamps. more than that for the others. No complete sets. Maybe the earlier post hypothesising that it’s to do with the not yet released dragons, and things will change about half way thru is correct (Pollyanna again 🤣)

In total I have invested around 700 gems in the Magic Tap game and used iceberries to buy 17 toy chests ( iceberries collected in game from daily activities or from sold duplicate decorations). I missed a few dropping toy chests due to moving cats (especially Noodles!) and an inconsiderate husband who doesn’t get the importance of concentrating on a dragon game!
My decoration collection is now only 3 shy of completion.
I’m missing: Yellow Feather Purple Stocking Blue Gumdrop
Obviously I’m no longer buying extra Magic Taps and instead starting to save up my gems again.
Each day (for the next 3 days) I’m buying one more toy chest until I complete the collection and then I will save, save, save iceberries in case they drop an unexpected limited on us.
All this has been achieved with spending zero real money (I have depleted my gem stash to below 750 and I’m ok with that).

My son abandoned his game years ago so I’ve been playing it since it was our first DV game. Last night, I gave him the iPad to play his game’s tap game. His reflexes are so much better than mine. He missed the first chest but instinctively used kiwichris’ technique, fingers at the bottom of the screen and got the chest on the next 4 out of 5 tries. So my suggestion is to find a 14 yo with good reflexes.
You can discard received eggs of coal abd gift, just press "collect" it then tells you what it is and then it places it in your social menu, gifts. From there you can decide what you wat to do, hatch, egg pedestal or sell.

this seems to be only possible for dragons with traits, the others have to be placed in the nursery first.

My success rate with catching the chest when it's double day has been zero. The chest tends to appear relatively late and is moving much faster in a 20 second time than in a 10 second time. So my strategy from now on is only to use gems to buy an extra turn when it isn't a doubles day. I've had a reasonable success rate then.
Also, it looks like there's a possibility of doing an old style grind to get berries (who here remembers planting hundreds of plants and selling them again to get up to the max for game currency?) You could just keep buying fire dragons and hatching them for 2 berries a time. Anyone tried the other dragons that are buyable for cash? Do you get more for some of the longer ones?

Cyn , in case this helps with Drop game: Look only along the top of the screen, running eyes side to side, ONLY looking for chest until it’s dropped, Arrange fingers all along the bottom of the screen Gives you a chance to either tap w one finger or bring down all fingers along the bottom to hit the chest Because more than 3 fingers hit the screen at once, it doesn’t (on my iPad anyhoo) activate the multi finger commands after chest has dropped, then tap remaining berries as they fall

Out of the 9 decos, 7 were duplicates of what I already had and 2 I needed. SEVEN OUT OF NINE WERE DUPLICATES! Great odds you’re giving us, BFS! Can you make the tap circle surrounding the Chests any smaller? And by all means, speed them up.

You haven’t been doing it right until you are below 100 gems and STILL have none of the evos 😉

The other four have yet to be released. Best to go ahead and get as many of the unreleased dragon’s decos as possible before they are released, so that you will be ready and prepared for when they are released.
also has anyone else noticed that the white stocking is just like the black stocking, just the colors reversed?

If you're patient, you don't need to buy any more chests at all. We'll be getting 3 chests from the calendar login over the next month, and those should be the three you're missing.
Yay for the update. It fixed the iPad problem with sorting dragons for the arena, and brought back Name that Dragon. It’s a little tricky to identify a dragon in 5 seconds, but they give 3 possibilities and so far, the answer has been clear. This is much easier on my old reflexes. Thanks Backflip!
I wonder how the rewards for Name that Dragon/Egg are like, especially if you use gems for a guaranteed Golden Chest? Do you definitely win the chest?
Edit: Just tried it, and yes! I won the chest every time! I also got an additional 40 berries for each correct guess, probably since it's now doubles. Wow, thanks BFS! It might just be a good Christmas in the Vale after all.
