I'm not sure the Colosseum award makes it worthwhile to tie up a dragon for 24 hrs that might be needed elsewhere. I don't know, I might be wrong but it doesn't seem worth it. I feel that not only is the daily reward not worth the dragon usage I think the Colosseum itself takes up too much room for the 800,000 or so DC it gives. I could use the space for a couple of habitats that would produce a much larger return.
Is there a reason to buy the effigy of the leaf instead of just buying the less expensive ghostly plant dragon outright?
It depends on your personal goals. I bought the effigy, evolved a twin plant, evolved a plant then bred together for the pedestal. For a little more berries you have all versions available. Another thought is what if it is needed for a future release or a dragon that needs all of the effigy statues to be bred...
All that said, I am not happy about rebreeding the same dragons for a FOURTH time. I will maintain my sloth mode that I adapted a few months ago and get them when I get them. I am not speed breeding for them or making them a priority.
Nerfed the rift, Nerfed gem habitat costs, Nerfed how we breed dragons, Nerfed social currency, Nerfed the races, Nerfed the reward for a 24 hour event. If BFS refuses to listen to the players this game will not be around much longer.
I no longer race, I no longer will send a dragon for 1 million dragon cash when I have billions. I will not watch ads for dragon cash. Less time in parks will eventually lead to less people playing.
At this point a “sorry valued player” should be typed up as soon as possible whether this was intentional or not.
This is the way the game ends, not with a bang with a whimper (apologies to Mr. Eliot) and I feel as though I've been whimpering for awhile now so perhaps the end is very near.
Or perhaps old Dragonvale players don't quit exactly, they just fade away. That's what it feels more like, a gradual withdrawal. There is a marked displeasure and dissatisfaction juxtaposed with nostalgic feelings of joy and a desire to hold on to that, regardless of the current dragonvale penchant for disappointment. Also there's been quite a time investment, I am reluctant to walk away from that. So I guess quitting will be something that will evolve over time as my heart is broken a little more each event until my love for this game finally dies (dramatic much). Seriously though, I've discovered that for me, quitting this game is a process. Plus there is hope that things can always change.
Ah, I can handle the despair, it's the hope that's killing me. (paraphrased from "Clockwise" a line by John Cleese)

POTM for this eloquent and accurate description, it beautifully reflects my feelings towards this direction DragonVale has taken.
Taking away something we've had since the creation of this game, is just plain wrong. dang you BFS.... dang you. (not "dang", but you get my censored anger)

Well dang and pootle! Five days in both Vale caves and rift cave trying for an elusive mistletoe and nada I enjoy the challenge of the bingo cards, but not the unattainable I recall it took me around 2 years to get my original M so maybe the difficulty level is still on par, but... dang and pootle and WHINE 😟
BFS needs to rethink the Colosseum Gem situation. Can you say: “Straw that broke the camel’s back”?
I now find I have to force myself to open the game to play and there is no joy in playing. Though it was very cathartic yesterday to go in and sell off all the previous Ghostlies I had bred even though it resulted in hardly any DC. Freed up massive space in Habitats. Freed up massive space in Hibernation Cave. And really cleaned up my Wish List. Everything seems more manageable now and I just need to rearrange and bring out dragons which had been previously mothballed. Had to go in a few hours later when I realized I had not sold off the Ghostly Pedestals. Another cathartic moment! Kind of strange the game is now more fun in the “disassembly mode” than the “assembly mode.”
I got the effigy of leaf but can only evolve the plant dragon. Shouldn’t I be able to evolve lichen, Moss etc since I have all of the effigy?
That’s what I thought when they brought out the ghostlys at Halloween. You have to breed the Ghostlys together to get the hybrid Ghostlys.... Ghostly Plant x Ghostly Fire give you a chance to get Ghostly Flower or Ghostly Poison.
Sounds easy enough. What they don’t say is that odds of actually GETTING one of the Ghostly hybrids are heavily weighted against the player. At least that’s my experience with them. These seem even more difficult to breed than the ones at Halloween.
From Mike at Backflip Support: We are aware that some recent Colosseum events did not provide the correct rewards. This was not an intended change, and we have pushed a server update that will fix Colosseum rewards moving forward. Please note that a Colosseum event started prior to this fix will still only award DragonCash, but any events started after the fix will provide the correct rewards. We apologize for this inconvenience and will automatically credit players some extra Gems as soon as we are able.

That's some very good news. Maybe hope really is the thing with feathers.
I didn't get 20 gems when I logged in like Quil did, but there's hope.
Update: I just got the gems.
I can't tell you how happy I am that BFS is not doing what I thought they were doing.
Are you planning to keep the decorations we needed to evolve the new ornamental dragons or will you sell them? I mean the general you, the impersonal you, speaking generically here. It always weirds me out when I use you this way. It's even weirder when I say is "one" planning to keep the decorations or sell them for event currency? I suppose I could say is "everyone" planning to keep the decorations or sell them? But that always sounds like I'm looking for a collective answer and someone should tally it all up for me somehow. But anyway I guess you get my drift. You - plural and generic.

Me myself and I on my sub clade of Team IcyTorrent YYAAAYYY (ahem, sorry) are gathering and keeping all mechanisms, whether or not we and I decide to actually breed dragons with they and them. The giant island is good for stashing around the outside, unless of course you are an egg island person... but they fit into nooks and crannies that peds don’t...
I'm keeping everything, but then again I am a completionist. These new decorations take up 1/4 of an island now and I assume will just grow over time as they repeat this in future events. I'll probably dedicate an entire island to evolution decorations at some point.
I am running into issues with my egg islands now though. It started as my gargantuan island, and overflowed into a second island when they pushed the rift dragons originally. Then last year, I spilled into a third. At this point I have the big island and two others nearly 100 percent packed with eggs with no room left to grow. I collect a normal, twin, rift, and rift twin of every egg (though my rift twin collection is still sparse, I keep spots for them all). Unless they stop releasing dragons, I'll need egg island number 4 shortly and that just seems crazy.
They should just come up with some egg building that lets you hold all your eggs that works similar to the dragonarium. Store all your 100s of eggs in there, can pull them in and out as needed, and can visit it to view everything you own in some nice display. I'm sure it would save on memory for the game too, as you wouldn't need to load 1000+ eggs when opening my park, it would save on island space and needing future islands, all sorts of benefits. Maybe it could even earn dragoncash based on the number of unique eggs stored in the building.
They could do the same for decorations with a decoration building, especially all these evolutions, and get 100s of decorations put away too.
They storage tower just doesn't work this way, as it is so limited in what it can hold and doesn't have any good browsing options to see a large collection.

I've kept all of the decorations, so far. The current decos are lining the bottom of my gargantuan island and run a bit up the left and right sides. If I need them for iceberries, I may consider selling, but I don't think that will be an issue. quil, you have a good idea for those players who are egg collectors. I only keep the pretty eggs:) A completionist I am not, especially the way this game is rolling.

I will sell off all those decorations just before the end of the event. I've gotten one of every new to evolve dragons and have enough berries to get a second of each. At the moment I'm trying to breed them coop to limit the amount I have to evolve (and pay for) There are some other things I might use the berries for. Selling off the decorations will bring me 5000 berries. This way I will be able to buy one or two effigies. Not that I'm planning to breed for ghostlies but I like to have the ability to do it.
As for the eggs : I'm not sure what to do with them. Maybe I will sell them too. That would clear up some space. But some of them are really beautiful. At the moment I have the event egg island for the special eggs and one ring of normal eggs around one of my islands. Slowly filling up a second ring on a second island with the golden hybrids. But as I get more of the special (dragons and) eggs that I have missed in the past the egg island will not be sufficient. Was thinking of buying the other special island (on the right of the event egg island) to use it for eggs too, but the cost of 1500 gems is keeping me away from it.
decisions, decisions...
dragon list (last dragon : Gatren) DV friend id: Crumble#7733 friend link coop friends always welcome, but all my gems are spoken for

Of course they intended to do what you thought they were doing! They tried and got shouted down by players, so they caved in and re changed the codng as it used to be. As somebody noted, the two weeks deal on gems did not bring the exoected return, so they tried to force sales. Btw, do now t forget the one gem you can get in the market. You have to check several times as it is not automatically there at reset.
