Whoa! I've been playing this game how long? & don't know about a free gem in the market! Pray tell the secret to its access!
Go to themarket, then to Treasure and scroll through all items, usually it is at the very end, you will easily recognize the offer looking like a baloona. Click, watch a vision and you get a free gem. As I said it is not there usually at reset, so check later , even several times.

Go to Treasure, then click to sort by gems and you’ll see the crystal ball that allows you to watch for free gems. I like to do Ta’aishen first, then the crystal ball in the Treasure tab of the Market, then the airship, since the Airship reappears by itself and saves me from having to remember to check back. Koala!

They are very tricky so although it's often at the very end, they do move it about at times. Right now, for me, it's in the middle. They make ya work for it sometimes.

You can actually just click on your gem count at the top of the screen and you will be able to watch the vision to gain a gem. I usually do Tozar and Ts'aishen first because sometimes it doesn't show up until you do all of these visions.
This is the way the game ends, not with a bang with a whimper (apologies to Mr. Eliot) and I feel as though I've been whimpering for awhile now so perhaps the end is very near.
Or perhaps old Dragonvale players don't quit exactly, they just fade away. That's what it feels more like, a gradual withdrawal. There is a marked displeasure and dissatisfaction juxtaposed with nostalgic feelings of joy and a desire to hold on to that, regardless of the current dragonvale penchant for disappointment. Also there's been quite a time investment, I am reluctant to walk away from that. So I guess quitting will be something that will evolve over time as my heart is broken a little more each event until my love for this game finally dies (dramatic much). Seriously though, I've discovered that for me, quitting this game is a process. Plus there is hope that things can always change.
Ah, I can handle the despair, it's the hope that's killing me. (paraphrased from "Clockwise" a line by John Cleese)
POTM for this eloquent and accurate description, it beautifully reflects my feelings towards this direction DragonVale has taken.
Dittos for me ....really sad & angry about the new methods of breeding dragons that eat up our gems & also dragons we must sacrifice to 'evolve'
Advice/input please ...i still do not have a corrupticon, wrath or porcelain dragon...i am missing (only have the ones given to me during tne event cuz i refused to give up gems unless i was sure of getting decos) & would need to purchase 15 decos at 50 gems a deco to complete the 10 decos required for each dragon ...so 750 more gems will disappear into the void It is a punishing amount of gems to lose ... And there is no other way to breed for those dragons (as i had hoped would happen)...
Lost close to 1000 gems this event to get decos needed & am still waiting on that last feather (which hopefully today's chest will give me)... My stash will soon disappear at this rate I am another valer who used to routinely spend $5.00 or more an event for eggs/berries/whatever but now refuse to spend any real-world money on a once-very-special game that i no longer recognize
Any thoughts/advice/input regarding this ...do u think those pricey decos are ever going to come down to a more reasonable amount or do i just need to bite the bullet or learn to live without those dragons?
About the decos and eggs: I try to scatter the decos and special eggs into nooks and crannies, but then it is really a pain to shift things around to make space for a new habitat or redecorate, moving all those fiddly little things one by one or searching for the hidden thing that's blocking a move into what appears to be an adequate space. Also, as they increase, things look more and more cluttered. I do like the idea of deco and egg collection buildings. I used to just keep and use the eggs I liked as decorations, but when they started making eggs count to unlock tiers in events, I had to start keeping those.
This brings me to another subtle shift I have noticed in the game. In the beginning there were many different styles or options for play that people could adopt, such as to maximize profit or display all dragons, or just get aesthetically pleasing ones or whatever. But it seems to have evolved into something that puts non-completionists at a disadvantage, for example when being able to control day and night or rain became necessary for getting a dragon made it difficult for those who had decided to skip the twilight tower and atmospheric effects sphere (forgot the name) because they were just decorative options at first. And those who had decided to ignore the rift had a lot of problems with the bingo cards, which I can't imagine trying to fill by the regular breeding. And those who decided to ignore the bingo cards now can't get the dragons they want by breeding but have to pay a fortune in gems to buy the stupid decos to evolve them (I caved and spent 800 to evolve two dragons), there's no other way. So I feel like the players have fewer options to play according to their own preferences, since deciding not to jump through the game's hoops and get everything at one point seriously impacts their participation options later on. This is why, even though I don't really like all 100 of the new evolutionary decos I am keeping them.
About the colliseum gems: I don't understand how removing the gems from the rewards could have been "unintended" (dropped from the reward notice text too?) but I am no expert in how game coding works, so I will just say, "Okay, thanks for fixing it!"

Be of good heart, ilovdragons, your gem stash will rebuild; the daily’s from friends, the gems in colosseum are back, occasional gem prizes in races, the daily free gem in treasure market, the Tolzar prizes become gems between events... I don’t think I’ve ever had more than 2000 gems, even when I was spending RL$, (often using them on unnecessary speed breeds cos I have to learn patience) but they build up again. As someone wise said a while back, they’re there to use in the game...so if you like the dragons you are missing, then spend them, you’re not ‘losing’ them, but ‘using them’. i used to save a wish, and try not to spend gems...then read the wise post, and thought, yeah, that’s their FUNCTION, and they come and go and come again... i hope this helps a little 🐨🐨🐨🐨🌻🐲

From Mike at Backflip Support: We are aware that some recent Colosseum events did not provide the correct rewards. This was not an intended change, and we have pushed a server update that will fix Colosseum rewards moving forward. Please note that a Colosseum event started prior to this fix will still only award DragonCash, but any events started after the fix will provide the correct rewards. We apologize for this inconvenience and will automatically credit players some extra Gems as soon as we are able.
Oh, so happy about this! Thank you for emailing them and reporting back!!

Hi gang! Haven’t been around much since the holidays. Been out in Cali, visiting my brother. Had a great time, especially in Reno & LV. Checked off another Bucket List item when we had dinner at Ruth’s Chris...best steak ever...melts in your mouth.
I have made a New Years Resolution...At the start of this event, I had ALL the Dragons except for a couple of Ghousties. I am now behind by 24! Yes, I know that Gems are there to be used and I used them. But the last 2 events broke me, Gem wise. For a couple of years I was always able to scramble and somehow, always got the newest Dragons while only once spending any RL$ (I used an Apple gift card I got on my BDay). My resolution? I’m simply not gonna bust my bu++ on this game anymore. If I manage to get a new Dragon fine, but I’m no longer gonna jump through their hoops, stressing myself out to do it and I’m certainly not gonna spend any RL$ on this game ever again. While on vacation, I didn’t play DV a lot, just collect assets and sent gifts to Friends and do you know what? I didn’t go through ANY DV Withdrawal! I just don’t give a (beep) any more. The things that BFS has done since HAS took over AND their poor quality control have ruined it for me. DV used to be a big part of my life...no more...just not gonna sweat it like I used to...not gonna spend 4, 6, 8 hrs a day or any $$$ any more.
PS. My game now goes Wonky every day now...it never used to and over the last few days I sometimes can’t even get into DV.

Thanks for this
Happy they reverted back. Disappointed it happened. Weak compensation.

Don’t forget you need 100 gems to evolve each dragon too.
I honestly would wait until a deco sale where the decos would hopefully be 25 each and/or try to breed all dragons except evolve dragons so you get those as log in rewards.
Are you planning to keep the decorations we needed to evolve the new ornamental dragons or will you sell them? I mean the general you, the impersonal you, speaking generically here. It always weirds me out when I use you this way. It's even weirder when I say is "one" planning to keep the decorations or sell them for event currency? I suppose I could say is "everyone" planning to keep the decorations or sell them? But that always sounds like I'm looking for a collective answer and someone should tally it all up for me somehow. But anyway I guess you get my drift. You - plural and generic.
I am keeping them. You never know if we might need them again. I will probably devote an island just for decos. It also came in handy when I received a twin of an evolvable dragon that I didn’t have at the time they were available. It cost me a 100 gems to get the twin version, but that is one less twin to worry about during twin weekend. I am so close (only need 6) to having all the twins (excluding ghostlies) the 100 gem tag is worth it to me.

Ok quick canvass of all the wisdom out there; what am I missing with this plethora of RT coals and gifts (leaving aside the regifts and trinkets); once I have a RT coal and gift dragon, and one of each new evolved ornamental dragon from coal or from gift, is there any point in keeping all the clutter others? We can’t turn them into peds, right? Hafta breed both Vale and Rift peds? And Vale versions of each new dragon? Right?
Is it safe to sell them all? I get that maybe wait with the RT regifts and trinkets, cos we dunno why they’re flooding in, Is it maybe something to do with Ghostlies (which I’m not yet breeding/collecting)? Do RT coals and gifts also evolve onto ghostlies? Yours faithfully Dazed and Confused 🤣

Has anyone had any luck cloning a ghostly dragon in co-op? Say, if I bred a ghostly fire with a ghostly decay in my other park, is ghostly decay a possible outcome?
From what I've understood, if you breed a Ghostly Fire with a Ghostly Decay dragon, the only possible Ghostly outcomes are Ghostly Fire or Ghostly Decay. You can also get any dragon that a Fire+Decay would normally yield (the non-Ghostly versions).
Side Note: I just got an ad for Dragonvale from Tolzar...
Edit: Oops, sorry about. As others have said, you cannot get the Ghostly Primary. You can get a Ghostly Decay from that combo, but not the Ghostly Fire.

That is correct. For example, Ghostly Fire + Ghostly Lava can get you either one of those or regular fire, lava, obsidian, etc but it will never get you a Ghostly Obsidian. I've cloned most of my missing Ghostly dragons from co-op, so it is certainly possible.

I’ve kept an extra RT or two in case there’s a last-minute limited that needs a Gift or Coal, but sold most of them when we had the triple days at New Year’s. I got a few I didn’t have time to sell, so I’m waiting for a doubles day to sell those. koala!
