Blarg. If this were my first event it would be my last. Either missed out or passed on all the limiteds, I keep clicking on ornaments in the drop game when there's a slightly faster/slower bomb just within overlap range the second I tap, didn't get a single dragon I was breeding for during BEB (few random rifts I didn't have, from rainbow scattershot breeding though)... Oh, and over the holidays one of my two kitties was diagnosed with cancer. -_- Don't know how many of the non-limited whale bait dragons I'll be able to get because I've not sat down and started wasting gems until just now.

Edit - Oh yay, you can get pieces for expired evolves. That means the guaranteed-new-piece chests are basically useless, unless they're differently flagged and don't give expired pieces.

Edit - Thank god for the egg game, I was starting to flub easy ones towards the end because I'm so tired, but even though it cost more gems than I'd have liked I did manage to get all the evolution dragons this time. Evolved a second Lokilure because I could, and in hindsight I should have evolved a non-rifted Saccharine but oh well, don't feel like using up my original Gift for that. My opinion still stands, albeit slightly less vehemently (I was irked at missing out on the Lokilure dragon, I think that was right around when I got kitty's diagnosis and there was also travel {so it was a long-distance second-hand diagnosis no less, boyfriend took kitty to the emergency vet} and well you get the idea...)

You can still evolve any of the "expired" dragons, you just need all 10 decorations and 1000 iceberries (or 100 gems after the event).
You just can't acquire the dragons directly from the market anymore.
So I discovered, but I'd crunched numbers on how many for-certain chests I could buy (or had banked) to guesstimate how many games I'd have to buy based on the six currently available ones and getting a random expired item threw that out the window. (And getting stuck with a single Lokilure feather basically up until the end when I started buying the for-certain boxes wasn't helping my mood.)

It's apparently a type that responds well to treatment and he's improved a ton from where he was when I'd left for the holidays (and he'd apparently gotten worse after I left) when we thought it might be some sort of respiratory infection or a more benign sort of problem, but it's also a sort that rarely goes away so while we seem to be making a good start at holding off entropy he's on borrowed time... He's not young, so we've had several good years with him, but he's not old either.
So I remembered 5 minutes after the event ended that I had been stashing some extra coal and gift twins for evolving twins of the new dragons. I wanted to see which ones I still needed when it was almost over, so was holding them. Oh well, 5 lost twins because I'm not spending 500 gems for them but had left over berries. Wish they'd let us evolve for berries during these two days. :\

I am also surprised we can’t evolve our dragons with berries right now. Kicking myself for not getting it done last night.
Do the multiple snowflake pedestals being sold actually look different? I can’t see any difference?
No, all snowflake eggs look exactly the same. The only way to tell them apart is to use the dragonarium and search for a specific one. The same is true for Monolith eggs. Hopefully they'll revisit these someday, but I wouldn't count on it.

After Evolving all 10 Dragons and saving up Iceberries till yesterday, I had enough to buy the Effigy of the Leaf & Evolve the Ghostly Plant, 2 Ornamental Habitats and Evolve the extra Gift & Coals to fill those habitats & finally buy a Ghostly Plant Ped...I have 2, count ‘em, 2 Iceberries left. Is that efficiency or what?
I guess I can call this Event a success. On the positive side, I never spent a 1cent of real $ but I reached all of the important (important to me anyway) objectives. On the negative side, I have even fewer Gems at the end of this event (185) compared to the 800 Gems I had left after the previous event. In order to complete Bingo Cards, I severely depleted my E$ on Rift Breeding.
My observations after this Event:
Gems are soooo important when it comes to achieving the goals of the Event.. Those of you who still have thousands of Gems left are the smart ones...you shouldn’t have any problems in future Events. Those of you with few Gems left, like me, can only hope 🤞 to save up enough for the next Event (Valentines Day?). In between Events, SAVE UP YOUR GEMS and the special Event$ (Iceberries etc.). I hope I can save up another 1,000 or so Gems by the next Event. It’s my guess that each Event is gonna cost between 1,200 & 1,500 Gems.
Don’t panic or over-react...BFS’ goal is to get us to spend Real $$$ and believe me they DO have a plan. To do that, they have to reduce our Gems so that we have no choice but to spend Real $$$.
Recognize your goal(s) and what it’s gonna take to achieve them and THEN, make a plan. My overall goal is to keep ‘Burning’, period, without spending any Real $$$. As nice as it is to have a Regular, Rift, Twin etc. of each Dragon, that is very hard to achieve and to those of you who seek that goal, I’m in awe!
After this Event, I can see how important it is to have 2 of every Dragon.
I hafta say that I nearly quit DV a few weeks ago and only stayed so I could continue to send Gems & Treats to my friends. After I calmed down and looked at the ‘problem’, I thought that I could do it and came up my rough plan.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still POed at BFS. Their QC is horrible, especially for a product where they want you to spend Real $$$.* They’ve taken short cuts for introducing new Dragons by ‘cloning’ old Dragons (Rifties & Ghostlies). This cloning process required less programming effort on their part to implement the new Dragons. And then, once introduced, they’ve made the odds on breeding a lot of those new Dragons very steep.
It has required me to alter my attitude towards DV...I don’t take it as seriously as before.
* Before I retired I worked in systems software support for a very large computer firm and later, as a litigation consultant (data analysis). I can tell you that if I had ever released a software product, replete with the ‘bugs’ of the nature of those that we see in every Event, I would have been summarily fired. As a litigation consultant, all of my work product ended up in the hands of an expert witness and eventually a judge or arbitrator. Putting a mistake in front of these people would have resulted In serious consequences for my client, not to mention that it would have ended my career.
I play two other on-line games, WGT Golf & Golf Clash. In comparison to DV, these 2 games are flawless. Now, that’s not to say that there haven’t been some problems once in a great while but when encountered, they have been corrected quickly, often in only a few hours.
It is my belief that the acquisition of BFS by Hasbro has brought about all of the negative happenings of these last few years. I was ‘here’ before HAS and I can’t think of anything about DV that upset me before HAS.

Hey wise heads out there; as we kept getting ‘gifts’ of Rift trinkets and regifts, but they can’t yet be evolved into anything, should we keep them? What are the odds of them being nominated as base evolution dragons in the next event? Otherwise I just don’t get it, why they were added to the plethora of base evolution stock... I get the theme connection, but.... 🤪

If you're looking for the best return on your extra iceberries, the winner is the Lace pedestal - at 1,800,000 DC for 246 berries, that's about 7317 DC per berry, or more than seven times what you'll get as the default rate from Backflip. 💰💰💰

Late but I wanted to say I'm also sorry about your kitty Veyska. We've been nursing a very sick kitty here too, and it just takes up all of your focus. We also had to put a different kitty to sleep very unexpectedly on Christmas Eve. It's taken a lot of the joy out of the season. I haven't even exchanged gifts or opened my cards yet. You'll be inn my thoughts, as will kitty.
On reddit there is a DV that thread where there is a screenshot of a message from Mike from back flip says the evolve for gems is a glitch and will be fixed to iceberries for the duration of the mirthful market soon.

Just checking ...Humuhumu + nectar can still get me another humu in the epic breeding cave, correct? I think i remember if u have one of the parents it is still possible even when the hourglass shows it is not available....🤔 just been trying soooo long w/this & other recommended combos & still no 2nd humu so i am starting to wonder...

Yes, you can clone it with one parent. In fact, with the terrible breeding odds of dragons these days you are better off trying to clone off one parent than trying a correct combo when a dragon is available. That's why I felt BeB this year was a complete failure, spent most of the time in the rift trying for a rift version of a dragon I was missing. Correct combo, 15+ attempts per day for the event, and never got it. I'm more likely to get it from an eventual mystery egg than from breeding. They've pretty much turned a breeding game into a clone game or random loot box (mystery egg) game. I think that's the heart of the problem with DV this past year.
Also, they changed the cost of evolutions back to Berries instead of Gems today. Of course I spent my leftover berries on pedestals yesterday, so don't have any for the twin evolutions.

It took me 2years of breeding between events to get Beardy. I’m on year 2 of changing the rift to Bolt and trying for an Abraxis ped... sigh but I remember it felt darn good to get the elusive one 😊 🐨🐨🐨🐨
