So on the front page here it says the new dragons can't be bred, only cloned. But then it also lists the combinations. Are those for some future time and they don't work now? The sandbox seems to show that they can be bred. I'm confused!
To add to adlerist most excellent answer, the easiest and most reliable way to see if a dragon is breedable is to check your Dragonarium. If a limited dragon is available, it will have a green hourglass. All the new event dragons are greyed out and are showing as Not Available.
Turns out it helps to uncheck the "bring 'em back" box on the sandbox! : )
I'll check the dragonarium in the future.
thanks!

So the Rift Habitats ... are we thinking they are only going to be available during events, or are they going to be added as a permanent thing? I've got my three different sizes, but I think I can certainly put a few more on my Rift Island. I'm wondering if I need to be spending event currency on them, or if they're going to be in the market after this is all over.

What do you think?
If they don't take up habitat limit, then they are like all the special habitat types, which are usually only available during events or for a high amount of gems. Treat them like Paradise Habitats and get as many as you can afford.

I'm worried new ones will count once the event is over, as with the paradise habitats. I should buy dragons instead, but there's a real chance they'll cost slots come BEB.

The dragons under:
'MEET THE DRAGONS' 'EVENT DRAGONS' 'BUY/CLONE ONLY' '(these new dragons cannot be bred)'
Are not breedable. These are the new event dragons in the last tier of the event market. The combos are their breedings hints, and given Deca’s pattern, you won’t be able to use them until BEB. Some players find it helpful to know the breeding combos now because it gives them an idea of which dragons are best to use for cloning. Or which parent dragons they need to obtain in a traited form so they’ll be able to breed the event dragons in the Rift during BEB. But I’ll delete the combos so there’s no knowledge on how to breed and hopefully it’s less confusing.
The sandbox is correct. It is showing these new event dragons can be cloned but are not breedable. Here’s Maw’s results.
New event dragons, usually in the last prize tier, are not breedable. Only the new limited event dragons (which haven’t been released yet) are breedable. This has been the standard in DV’s events for a while. I agree, it is confusing.
Ahhhhhgggh oh no! I liked the breeding hints. There were a lot of hints that needed specific dragons like trick and ortreat and Oni. I use Bahamut and Tiamat to level rift dragons so it’s really helpful to know what I’m gonna need in the future or BeB b/c it can take a month to get the dragons up to level 17 or 18 with B and T. It saves me a lot in treats doing it this way. It’s much easier to see all the breeding hints in one place on the forum than looking up each one on the breeding app or Sandbox. Also the forum is MUCH FASTER the hints are up in minutes (you guys do such a good job 😁) it can take the app and Sandbox a couple days. If it’s OK when an event starts I might send you a PM and ask for the breeding hints if the app and Sandbox don’t have it yet which I know they won’t. Thank you! 😊

Yes, that absolutely fine! You and any other members who need breeding combos can message me. Thanks for understanding!

So don't take the breeding hints out for foolish people like me! The "are not breedable during the event" should be enough!
No, that’s fine. It’s better this way. I’d rather it not be confusing for members. You were in the right.

Still no luck. Rift misfortune cloned itself two more times at least. Lightning + cold looks really good.
There's no real chance per trend to get wendigo, even with two macabre + bone dragons.
Don't quit before you start sun I have two parks and two totally different results. First park has a 31 hr breed and second park is a Wendigo - first try.
. I have only one Macabre, in the main (non-Rift) park. If I use candy to get one from the prize tent, what are the chances that it will be traited for the Rift?

Rifted dragons were usually either - bred in the rift or - hatched from an egg of mystery.
The only way to get a rifted dragon by choice is
... if you have a twin version of the same dragon, and the game offers everyone a free dragon from a pre-selected list. E.g. players could choose any chrysalis type dragon at the end of the event featuring them.
... if the event features special breeding caves. If you have activated four caves, you can pick four dragons previously bred in any of them. Those might be rifted.
We unfortunately can't buy rifted versions with event currency :/
Does the apocalypse element of Wendigo mean it has 4 elements, so trying to clone it might result in Rainbow?
I have gotten several rainbow dragons with less than 4 different elements. A better definition of what gives a rainbow dragon could be - any two non-primary dragons.

But what about Wendigo plus Fire? Is that 3 elements or 4? Because if it’s already 4, then adding plant for the flower/poison fails would be a benefit.

Looking back at all of my screenshots, it is only like that in the rift. My guess is that the rift is counted as an additional element. This picture is from when I first unlocked the rift and I only had a few dragons. It’s hard to tell, but the breeding pair was poison and cold rift.

Yes to both. It is the same as Frons giving off the Hidden element even though it does not contribute to the pool and similar to using a rifted dragon, the rift element will always add another element to the count even in the regular vale.
