I know that adlerist has put a link to the thread with the first event with runic caves. But for those with little time I give a summary here.
amos linked the thread with the first event that featured the RBCs. Thank you Amos! I linked my strategy post from the last event with RBCs, and the link to the event FAQs, which has an explanation of the RBCs.
For anyone who needs the info, here’s the post and the links to the strategy and FAQs:
The forum doesn’t have written instructions on how to use the Runic Breeding Caves (RBCs). I posted this strategy last year about how I maximise the usage of the RBCs and minimise duplicate breeding fails. It’s always a fun, weird goal of mine to try and breed every dragon in the RBCs so the RBC Egg History is complete. I’ve come really close, but ran out of time with only 3 dragons (2 Monoliths and 1 Snowflake) left.
The event’s FAQs has a section on the RBCs that’s more how-to instructional.
I didn’t have a chance to say thanks for the strategy tips it was VERY helpful and interesting. I also REALLY liked the link from Minyaz with the list of locked combos. The strategy, FAQ, locked combos, and the DV Sandbox was all I needed to get started.
I made a list of dragons to breed in the order you suggested in strategies. That will save me a lot of time because I don’t have to think about what dragon to breed next, I just go through the list. Now I want to try and breed as many dragons as I can in the Runic too! It does sounds like a fun goal and it’ll earn me a lot of eggs. We will have to compare notes and see how many we were able to breed but I have a feeling you’ll win. 😄 I will definitely buy more runestones so I can breed as much as I can and of course to claim 10 dragons!
The FAQ has good instructions with pictures but it’s good to have the detailed version from crumble too and I will look at the thread Amos posted when I have a chance. Thanks everybody!
By far and away my best start to an event. I’m about to go to sleep with a haul of over 3700 eggs which I’m really egg-cited about! I’ve got two massive days at work so this really sets me up. Spent $20 on 3 extra caves so I have 5 working for me. Hopefully one of them produces an Ovalith so I can get rift-twins. Koala to all!!
I was thinking to buy three extra caves also. Do we buy the rune stones just once? Like does one paid rune stone make the cave available for the entire event, or just a week???

Let me answer like I have ever bought a runestone (side question: Do runestones ever go on sale? I’m thinking of actually buying some this time.). A runestone activates a cave for 7 days. Once a cave has been activated, you get one claim from the cave all event, no matter how many times it was activated. Make sure if you use a runestone you are activating a cave that has not been activated before so you maximize your claims.

one more side Question, do we get another free rune cave on double days?

adlerist is DECA still looking to switch the reset time?
PSA - Colorado does Day Light Savings this weekend. Even though DECA is in Germany there has still been something in the code that ties to Colorado DST and things get wonky for some when the change happens until the next reset (which could happen an hour earlier depending on where you are.)

Assuming all the mechanics stay the same as in past events, yes another cave activates on double days. This free cave traditionally opens to the right of the one that goes the entire event. The help for the event only said double days and did not mention triple. In the past there was a triple day that opened another cave (again to the right if I remember correct), but I don’t *think* that is going to happen this event based on the help section. In the past we were also gifted another runestone through the colorful benefactortry. Looks like we might get 2, on day 6 and day 24, based on the shape of the shadow. But that is pure conjecture on my part.
I still use Quil's old spreadsheets to keep track of which dragons I breed. One of them shows breeding times the other is an alphabetized list. They are not up to date but very useful.
I'll try to get an updated version out this weekend.

I know that adlerist has put a link to the thread with the first event with runic caves. But for those with little time I give a summary here.
There are 10 runic caves in this event. One is open the whole event. The second will be available on double currency days. And if we will get triple days then a third one will be open. The last two ones are only available on double/triple days. The other caves have to be opened with a rune stone. Each rune stone will open one cave for 7 days. Rune stones can be bought with real money. Maybe we will be awarded one later in the event, either from a game or from daily present, but this is not clear. You can see that a cave is open by the enlighted lamps. If a cave closes and you have a dragon pair in it, the breed will finish immediately.
The breeding times in the caves are a lot shorter. (Was it 20% or 25% of the whole time?) When you breed in the caves, you won't get the dragon/egg immediately. Instead the eggs go into the cave history. And for each cave that has been open during the event, you can select one dragon out of this history. All caves fill the same history. You can claim a dragon that has been bred in cave 1 by using your free claim of cave 2. If you open a cave several times during the event, it won't give you two claims. So if you want to open additional caves, be sure to open different ones to maximize your claims. Claims can be made even after the cave has closed until the end of the event. But choose your dragons before the end of the event currency collecting time. When the collection of event currency ends we will still have those 2 days to spend event currency, but the runic caves will have gone at that time, and in that case you won't be able to choose your claim.
In addition to the claim of a dragon from the cave history, the breed in a cave gives event currency. You will get a small amount of currency proportional to the duration of the breed and 100 eggs for every egg that is new to the history. You can look up the egg history to see which eggs you have already bred. There is also a button to see or hide the possible other eggs. Mixed with the use of the filter this gives you a good information with which elements you will likely get a new egg.
When you claim your dragon, it will be a normal dragon, if you don't already have it in your park. If you have one, you will get a normal twin. And if you already have a normal twin then you will get a rifted twin. So this is a great opportunity to get rifted dragons that you can't breed / don't have in the rift. For example Monolith or Chrysalis dragons. You also can claim the same dragon several times. So you can get a twin with your first claim and a rifted twin with your second claim. But remember that your claims are limited to the a amount of opened caves (maximum of 10). For the determination whether you will get normal/twin/rifted twin it is not important if you have a normal or twin in your park at the time you breed the egg in the cave but if you have it at the time when you claim your egg. So if you have a normal x and you want it in the rift and you have been successful to breed it in a runic cave, it might be good advise to try to clone x in your coop to try to get a twin. Then you would only need one claim to get a rifted x.
Excellent summary crumble608 For those who haven't had Runic Breeding Caves in an event before, this will be really useful.
Ok I will totally read up on the RBCs after dinner (I'm cooking so can't stop now) but I have a few questions hopefully someone more up to date can help with: - how di I use the Prismatic Pantheon/how would I know how to find it if I did have it in my park? - is there a cap on the eggs from each method of collecting per day? I'm still getting some from habitats though I've collected a fair few - are there any strategies as to which I should try breeding for (normal/RBC/co-op)?There's so many available!
- To find out if you have the Prismatic Pantheon, go to your wish fountain/buildings. If you do have the Prismatic Pantheon it will show as 1/1. Finding it your park won't be so easy, it will need to be an island by island search for it. It isn't listed in the decorations to be able to 'find'. adlerist has given instructions on the first page of this thread for which settings are required to find the eggs and Kaleni.
- There is a cap of 10,000 eggs that you can collect per day. However, there is a cap on the number of eggs that you can collect from habitats, 500 on a normal day and 1000 on a double day.
- amos posted a link to the event where the Runic Breeding Caves were first introduced First RBC eventadlerist has posted a strategy for the Runic Breeding Caves RBS Strategy and crumble608 has posted a summary of how the Runic Breeding Caves work on Page 3 of this thread
Hope that this helps.

I am with you 100% on the Runic Breeding Caves. It is one of the greatest additions to game. And it’s so versatile. New players and long-timers both recognise the value of the RBCs. It even works great with the BEB. I’d love to see the RBCs as a regular, frequent feature in events.
Totally agree. Great story - does your kid still play Dragonvale BagMom or have they grown out of it?
Also very pleased to see the return of the Runic Breeding Caves. It was the Easter event last year when we saw them last. I hope that we will see them more often than once a year in future.
MinyaZ - Sadly the rest of my family have moved on to other games. Outgrown is probably not the right word since the kids are young adults, but they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of dragons to collect. Of course, that's the challenge as far as I'm concerned. I am still surprised that I'm already in the 500s even though I started just a year ago. As my kids say, "Obsess much?" Yep!!
Headed over now to view adlerist's RBC guidance from the Spring Shellebration thread. I sure wish I had this forum back when I started, but I got here as soon as I could. Just wanna say, adlerist, breeding ALL the dragons in the RBCs during one event is one huge, crazy goal! koala if you are trying it this time around.
Deca have really shown that the listen to their players with the recent addition of decorations. Perhaps there is hope for the bluebird in the Camp Dragonvale becoming a decoration after all. 🤞
There are 50 eggs to find in the park. Am I the only one that thinks this number is excessive - and some only give a 1 egg reward for finding it. Please Deca, would you consider dropping the number of eggs to find next time? Keep the overall reward the same, but decrease the number of eggs to find.

I'm not going out of my way to find them, since a lot of them are behind things and they're not really worth that much. If I see them while looking for the other moving visitors, then I'll tap on them, but I'm not going into path edit mode to find the hidden ones. For me, the benefit-cost ratio is not high enough to warrant the extra time.

I think you are correct about there only being one free cave that activates on double days, and it is to the right of the one that goes the entire event. That one is called a Bonus Runic Breeding Cave, whereas all of the other caves are just Runic Breeding Caves.
So if you're inclined to spend any real money, buying a Satchel of Runestones (7) will allow you to activate all of the caves and maximize your return on dragons that you get to keep at the end of the event. I haven't spent any money on DV in quite a while, so I'll probably go ahead and do it. Considering the amount of time I've spent playing this game over the past 9 1/2 years, it's worth it!

I've cleaned it up, added all current dragons, it should have all combos listed for currently available dragons, with 'Clone' for ones that are not. Up to date as of today. I also took out dragons that can't breed, like gemstones, and can't be bred this month. Removed most of the galactic dragons too.
I added habitat and element types so you can judge the best way to breed the dragon if you don't have two. Timers are added with the 25% reduction, dragons sorted by the timer. I'm sure I've missed something, so let me know and I'll clean it up.
To use it, make a copy of the spreadsheet and that's it!

I agree. It also adds to the time/effort one must put in to find all of them and b/c of this extra effort needed it is very difficult for those of us with ‘older’ devices to collect all the $DC, Flaggers & Eggs in one pass without the game crashing which then causes us to have to re-examine the islands we previously cleared, adding even more time to our effort 🤬🤬🤬
Anyone know what the cost to upgrade the Monolith Reward Habitat to a Large Monolith Reward Habitat is? IIRC it was only dragoncash to enlarge it earlier.
Cesspit#5766
Can't remember I'm afraid. I have two large and given one is empty I wouldn't have spent gems to upgrade it so it could have been dragon cash but maybe I had spare event currency last time they were available. /shrug.

My solution to those pesky eggs that hide in every nook and cranny...use those colored cubes. I've got several islands that I've got every empty space filled with a cube so the only "free space" is the Magic Portal pad. If you're in Edit Cube mode and continously tap on a building or environment, DV will automatically place cubes in free spaces on your island. From what I've seen since the event started, those eggs have been layering on each other on the Magic Portals. =) Now the tourists will bunch up like crazy but might be handy for the flaggers too. =)
Shouldn’t I have started with 1 Runestone? My park shows 0.
