But apart from the minor concern I outlined above, I am stoked about this new element! I was actually planning on designing dragons for a future "melody" element, but I guess now I'll just be adding on to it! I really hope DECA recognizes how much music can change people's lives and how crucial it is that they can highlight the importance of music in people's lives and not just portray music as a "party," as referenced in the habitats' descriptions. I'm cautious yet hopeful for this new addition to the game, and from what DECA's demonstrated so far I have faith in their ability to convey this idea in a meaningful fashion. Long live DragonVale! :)
I agree that music is playing an important part in people s life but I confess Heavy Metal is just awful to my ears! For me music is harmony and emotion. But I am just an old lady who doesn’t understand the music choices of the young people. I stick to classic music and wait for a Rachmaninov dragon lol.
Oh, I do like Rachmaninoff! There’s nothing wrong with that at all. But he is extremely difficult to play (my last piano recital was a Rachmaninoff prelude). If there was a Rachmaninoff dragon, he’d have six fingers on each hand and could span a 12th with ease.
(We need OboeKade to draw this dragon!)
Although, I do like the loud music of metal, punk, and all the rest. I don’t mind the noise, it makes sense to me and has a good place.

This was discussed quite a bit immediately after Heavy Metal’s release. In the US and Australia (one of the reps is in Australia) the word has a 'stronger' definition and is considered a swear word. Whereas, the reps and Deca employees in Europe do not have this interpretation (that’s not to say everyone in Europe shares this perspective). So Deca wasn’t purposefully trying to be offensive. There’s been no final decision on whether they’ll change it, but I thought you’d like to know it has been brought up and they’re aware of the situation. You may want to contact Deca if you have concerns.
BFS renamed the Scoria dragon due to a problem with it's initial name in certain parts of the world. I'm sure this will be fixed soon enough.
Yes, I remember that. The situation was a little different though. Deca has made changes too. It really just depends if enough people complain. That’s why I suggested you contact them.

If you had the misfortune of being tested on music history, you have more of an appreciation how sound developed over time. However, not even that could cure me. Not a clue how people sit through hours of pieces.
I’ve consolidated your posts into one so it’s not as spammy.

I’m in the U.S. and it doesn’t bother me. I think it fits the dragon and it’s often used to describe heavy metal or rock musicians, but I can see people having a problem with it. Every now and then there’s something that gets lost in translation and BFS had to change it and this has happened with DECA in the past too. I’m sure DECA will change it if people want them to.
I just think it’s so cool Heavy Metal plays his tail like a guitar lol really made me laugh.
I'm also in the U.S and it doesn't bother me either. I think it's funny how people think children are so innocent nowadays, when I frequently hear pre-teens and teenagers dropping f bombs in every other sentence. I hear swears in children's movies too. So it's not as though most kids don't already have a colorful variety of sentence enhancers.
The word fits the dragon, in my opinion. But then I mainly listen to metal, industrial and gothic bands, so I'm used to hearing worse things in the lyrics. I mean Metallica vibes sure, but I was thinking more along the lines of Grendel, Dimmu Borgir, A Pale Horse Named Death and Manowar, just to name a few of my favorites. Because I started with Metallica at the age of seven and gradually progressed from there.
Don't mind me, just throwing in my two cents. 🎸✨
We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.

I'm also in the U.S. but don't agree that it doesn't matter at this point. While it is a very minor thing it's still an issue with a sizeable portion of the player base, and at the very least I believe DECA should remove it for no reason other than the fact that it bothers someone or makes someone feel uncomfortable. It'd just be a show of respect. Sort of the same deal with Wendigo except that they only changed the description and not the dragon's name- most people weren't affected but it bothered some. Just my two cents in addition to what I laid out above, I'd rather it not be in the description but ultimately it's not up to me.
But I of course respect your opinion and certainly don't want to get into an argument, so I'll leave the conversation here. ❤️

Wendigo was a tough situation for Deca because it evoked cultural appropriation. Deca doesn’t mind making changes; they certainly don’t want to offend anyone. But they can’t be put in a position where they’re expected to make changes or people feel they can make requests regularly and it’ll be fulfilled. I’m not suggesting you’re doing this in the least — you’re definitely not. I’m only expressing how it can be a difficult balance for Deca, and they do the best they can.
You’re right, if a sizeable portion of the player base are offended or upset, they’ll likely make the change. But if it’s a handful of people, they may not.

I feel like gaining a better understanding of how sound developed over time would be extremely interesting, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to take that class relatively soon. As for listening to hours and hours of pieces, I do think that listening to music is something that needs to be enjoyed on a personal level- if you like listening for a certain amount of minutes, that works for you, and if I like listening to longer or shorter pieces than you, that works too! Music is an experience that has different meaning to everyone, and that’s why it’s so important to me and to our society, regardless of genre.
It's definitely an experience. Though, you'll learn (and understand) definitely a lot more theory than I did, since my experience was as a minor.
We're a bit spoiled as options and variety go in the 21st century. It was almost unimagineable to me how people were completely wowed by orchestral music back in the day. However, with enough torture, even the densest of us can access that experience. It helped that we were automatically failed for missing class unexcused even once
Well, this new element and the mini-BeB threw me for a loop! I'll continue to update my event progress here but will outline my breeding luck for the mini-BeB in the other thread. I secured Maw for my park yesterday, so I now have 53% of the Halloween dragons I'm missing.
Week 2, part 1: Co-op cave: Metal + Heavy Metal (possible new dragon of Heavy Metal) Enchanted cave: Hypnotic + Dream (Dragons’ Week breeding for Portent, results will be outlined in the Dragons’ Week thread.) Epic sanctuary: Spirit + Scourge (possible new dragon of Malefice) Rift cave: Nesting + Fire Rift (possible new dragons of Nesting and Eldritch)

Wow Adlerist, you are a concert pianist ! A woman of many talents! May I recommend Alexander Malofeev and his versions of Rach s piano concertos and Variations on a thème of Paganini.
😆 Just give me John Mayer with a little bit of Kygo and Luke Bryan mixed in and I’m good to go! 🎼💃🏻🎶😎🤣

Another glitch? It’s just weird. This morning I had the Heavy Metal lock out. Tonight I checked my dragonarium and it says I have all dragons. But I don’t remember breeding for Funis. It was at level 4, with its given name. I always change the name to the dragon type and feed to level 20. So it’s a gift. Did anyone else get a gift?
I never considered the word to be in the offensive list either in the US, it's not censored on network TV and they censor everything. It was on the 'not allowed' list long (long!) ago, when I was young. I certainly wouldn't be against changing it if it offends people, as it's such a minor change and why not make others feel as comfortable as possible especially when it wouldn't impact the rest of us. But I wouldn't lump this country into the category that considers it 'bad'.

A melody element is a really unique idea. I love it. And the heavy metal dragon is awesome. As far as types of music go, I really like all music. I don't like all music equally, but I do appreciate it all. I especially enjoy music that speaks to my head and heart, music that forces passion and emotion to course through my veins so to speak. I also love music that speaks to my body with a rhythmic beat I must answer. But I do think head music is my favorite. Classical falls under that category for me. I don't know where my love of classical music came from, I certainly did not have the opportunity to hear it played in my house as a kid. I did hear the Moody Blues album "Days of Future Past" played over and over and over in my house though. And I had a Peter and the Wolf book and with a recording that I loved as a kid. Whatever the reason, I did develop a love of classical music along with rock, blues, jazz, metal, and punk. I don't play an instrument, I have no musical training whatsoever, I can't even carry a tune, but I do know what I like. Also to my untrained ear I find something very similar between rock and classical music. It's probably my early exposure to classical rock stuff. And maybe it isn't anything inherent in classical and rock, although I believe there is something inherently alike between them, but it could be more the way they both make me feel. I can sit perfectly still and get lost in the stuff. It enters my body through my head and heart.
These eggs are twins which a friend has bred with one of your dragons in co-op. A lot of people keep twin dragons as well as normal ones. If you collect all dragons in twin form, your Dragonarium will breathe blue fire - red fire if you collect all dragons.
It can be useful to have two of the same dragon - it is easier to breed another one using two of the same parent, or if you need it in a breeding combination.
PSA: Do not place the giant Melody habitat in the north corner of an island — it could cause crashes.
Please see this post for screenshots of the problematic locations on an island.
If you place the giant Melody habitat in these areas, the habitat will be invisible (only the music notes will display).
And if you move the island’s portal, the portal will disappear, and your game will crash non-stop.
This is a screenshot taken by CalliAlli, the FB Rep. One of her players had the giant Melody habitat in the invisible location. They moved the portal to the other empty square (circled in green). When they moved the portal, it vanished, and now their game crashes constantly.
If you have an invisible Melody habitat, move it a couple spaces so it is visible, as soon as possible.
I tested the large and small Melody habitats, and they do not have the invisible glitch. It appears the giant habitat is the only one with the bug.
Deca is aware of the issue, and I’ll update everyone when there’s more information.
(This PSA will also be posted on the Bugs and Glitches thread.)
