Apparently I have no energy to do any actual work, but when it comes to collecting virtual candy my stamina is remarkable. This is big fun and I'm having a great time playing. Thanks for this Adlerist, you are awesome!!
Completely agree cynmed ! I've stayed up waaaaay to late the last few nights trying to get up the list.
I have enjoyed participating in this scavenger hunt so much. I start searching threads for candy and look up to find an hour has passed. Over and over I would fall down a rabbit hole and get lost for long stretches of time reading old posts. I discovered so much about this forum I never new. We have a cooking thread complete with recipes and all. There is also a movie and book thread, two of my favorite things. I am certain I spent more time reading than collecting in that thread ( lots of threads actually.) I wandered through a holiday thread and got a little early xmas spirit. Chatting with friends in the Town Square made some fascinating reading and I even found posts by me years ago when I first joined that I had forgotten all about. One of my favorite threads to read was Welcome to the Forum - Introduce Yourself. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and I hope we do it or something like it again. Thank you adlerist.
Oh, I can't wait for the next event to begin. Also calling it right now. That one on the right probably needs Tumblethorn in its breeding pair.
So a new Rift exclusive?

Today is the last day to collect Candy for Whitbee’s Candy Bash VIII: Into the Dark. As a reminder, candy corn will be the first item to find in the Scavenger Hunt.
So gather as much candy corn in DragonVale and on the Forum as you can within the next 24 hours. Don’t let any get away! G’luck!
I didn’t realize there was a scavenger hunt thread and posted on the Candy Bash thread. This scavenger hunt is BRILLIANT and I love it so much! THANK YOU!!
The Detector is so smart and so cool. It helps A LOT! I would’ve given up by now (and I just started playing) without it. But I’ll go look for candy on more pages since it’ll let me know.
I really hope you’ll do this again. I was busy with RL so I didn’t get a chance to play much but if you’re thinking about doing another one, you have my vote! I also liked how everyone changed their avatar lol! HOW FUN! A scavenger hunt and costumes!!
And I love this little ghost trying to catch the candy corn lol!
I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween and Dias de los Muertos! 🎃💀

Thank you so much! You are really too kind! ❤️ I am so thrilled everyone enjoyed the hunt and could hangout on the Forum with each other and catch up on some reading. 📚
Yes, I think we will be doing another scavenger hunt. Perhaps in December…

<sigh> Three days in and I just now saw the comment that I have to be on a desktop machine to play the hunt. I have perused dozens of pages - on my trusty iPhone - without spotting a candy corn, skull, or apple. Feeling foolish, but a little glad I haven’t just missed them all. 🤓
You can play on a mobile phone too. In the lower right corner of the page click Desktop.
I much prefer viewing the Forum in desktop on a mobile. Most features on the Forum from liking posts to the mini profile to the dragon folder icons do not show on the stripped down mobile version.
Oh… right… I should have seen that! “Desktop”. Thanks for the tip. Now I feel doubly silly. But I’ll be ready for the next hunt, if there is one!
Just going to post this here for posterity. And because the little pumpkin dragon is very cute.
A departure from the dinosaurs on the loading screen!

I came across the cooking thread too in my search for treats and goodies. And now I'm tempted to post the recipe I used for the pumpkin spice cookies I made for Halloween. I should also revisit the book and movie threads. Might be nice to have a conversation over there.
So I'm taking a moment to pause in my search, so I can say thank you, adlerist . Not only have you created something that's fun for the whole forum, you've also given us an activity that brings us closer together. Rediscovering old topics can lead to something new with new members and old friends alike. It's a wonderful thing really. 💗

We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.
The origins of the Horn of Plenty, or cornucopia, can be found in Greek mythology. As a baby, Zeus was hidden from his father, Cronos, who had a bad habit of devouring his children. Zeus was kept in a cave with the goat Amalthea, who nurtured him. One day, not realising his super strength, Zeus accidentally broke off her horn, which then had the power to provide food without end. What a lovely family.
Whitbee is removing the spooky atmosphere and packing up Hallowe’en. But do not feel down, in anticipation of Thanksgiving, he has left a harvest of cornucopias to quell your appetite until next year.
Today is the last day to add to your trick-or-treat bag. And it is a half day! Cornucopia collection ends at 8.00 PM MDT / 3.00 AM CET, or 12 hours after DV’s daily reset.
G’luck to all scavenger hunters and thank you so much for playing. You made this Hallowe’en a real treat!
adlerist Thank you so much for running the Scavenger Hunt. It has been a lot of fun. And as well as providing different daily objects to collect we also got a history lesson on each item. It has been fascinating reading the background of these.
If we don't all have a toothache and a stomach ache after all the candy we've collected, devouring today's goodie basket should make sure that everyone does.

Love those pictures, BagMom. As you can see, I took a couple screenshots too. 😏
Chomp has a sugar skull mask, Funis is eating a sugar skull, Ocular is carrying a piece of candy corn on his back, and Maw tried to swallow the candy whole. We also have a perfectly placed sugar skull on the DragonVale banner.

Any chance the one on the right is a contest entry??? It looks like the Razorthorn entry from the last contest...
Edit: Come to think of it, the one on the left looks like a simplified Rougevent too...
It may be. I’ll double check, to be sure!

These two posts are hysterical! I haven’t had as many screenshot opportunities as you two have so thanks for sharing them!
Congrats of your first image post, Bagmom! I have to say, for a first post with pics, it’s extremely impressive — there are so many images on it, so neatly aligned. I’d say you’re already a pro!

Love the DV banner and ladyj 's Maw!!! Was hoping to see anyone wearing a cornucopia as a hat, à la Carmen Miranda, but no luck...

Appreciate the compliment adlerist! I'm 83% sure it is 100% the website that is hosting my pics.
I came to finally finish up my dragon ratings and now I’m gonna be distracted again this time with candy!!
Yay! Once you find the prize detector candy is easier to find. You have a bit of catching up to do - both in reading and catching candy.
Ain’t that the truth! The detector has really saved me, and a lot of time! I’d be lost without it. I’ll never go on a scavenger hunt without a detector ever again. And you’re not kidding about a lot of reading lol!
Candy apples were never meant to be eaten (which explains why they’re so impossible to eat).
In 1908, William Kolb, a Newark, New Jersey candy maker, dipped apples into melted red cinnamon candies to create festive Christmas objects for his window display. Intending to entice people into his shop to buy the actual candies, passersby wanted the candy-apple-red candy apples instead.
Candy apples became fashionable to give out to trick-or-treaters during Hallowe’en from the early 1900s until the 1960s, when rumours of razor blades and needles, and the general unsanitary practice of it all, ended their popularity.
Today, Whitbee has brought candy apples back into the spotlight as the third treat to find in the hunt.
The koalas will like this one!
In addition to historical facts, I also really like the messages that show when you find candy. They change every day. Yesterday for candy apples it was
“You find a candy apple on the ground. It has some gravel stuck to it, but you add it to your bag anyway... You feel compelled to collect more sticky rock apples!”
Sticky rock apples lol YUM! 🪨🍎
And today it’s
“You found a cornucopia on the ground, and it provides an endless array of Thanksgiving days, bountiful harvests, and tryptophan dreams. Now, off to find a cornucopia of cornucopias to win the Forum’s first Scavenger Hunt!”

I kept searching until I found it. No surprise that Chomp is hoarding all the food.

Thank you so much for playing the first Whitbee’s Scavenger Hunt!
The hunt has concluded and the contents of everyone’s trick-or-treat bags will be tallied. The top five members who gathered the most candy will have their names emblazoned on the Winner’s Circle for eternity.
I’ll leave this thread open until the winners have been announced tomorrow morning, so if anyone wants to chat or comment further, please feel free. Many thanks to everyone for your thoughtful and generous words and for taking part in the hunt.
In the world of DragonVale, there is never a dull moment or a moment to lose. Join us in 11 hours for the launch of Om of Noms: Country Roads.

And thank you so much for this scavenger hunt.. unexpected and so much fun 😁😁😁
The candy has been counted piece by piece, and the results are clear. The top five winners for Whitbee’s Scavenger Hunt are… drum roll…
1. DragonMoonX with a whopping, tooth-aching, 1,960 candies takes first place. She was the first player on the leaderboard, and never gave up her lead, staying at the top for the entire hunt! 2. cynmed with an eye-watering and mouth-watering 1,231 candies is our second place finisher. 3. dragonglow, despite a later start showed serious skills with a total of 750 candies. 4. Worms, who suspiciously stopped at 666 candies. 😈 5. jengrqkH#4979, who quickly tap up an impressive 616 candies.
And we have an honorable mention: BagMom, who collected 609 candies, but may have stopped because JengrqkH’s total on the leaderboard had not caught up and was showing a lower amount.
As stated earlier, the totals were taken from each player’s mini profile. The leaderboard can be out of sync, as it tries to keep up with the hunters, but the mini profiles are always accurate. If you have any questions or concerns, please message me. Thank you again for playing the game, enjoying the Forum, and for giving us some astronomical login and engagement numbers! Many cheers to all our members!
