Unfortunately, unrifted dragons are pretty limited in their usefulness for breeding. That goes double for unrifted dragons that have 6+ elements.
It's simply not worth it to acquire an unrifted evolve dragon. I'm not sure why you would advise this to people. Mesmerus, especially, will be horrible if it ever does become part of a breeding pair.
I would appreciate it greatly if we had (exactly) one less unbreedable starter dragon. However, I do appreciate that the breeding pairs are much less demanding than DECA could have chosen. I'm fine with postponing buying classical. But, you really want to tick rifting any evolve dragon off your list. DECA has demonstrated an affinity for using them in breeding pairs.
Once again, I think Umbra was cheaper when it released, as all the tents could purchased for 700 EC each during Whitbee's Candy Bash: Into the Dark. Whereas Mesmerus needs 1,000 EC per decoration.
(Wish I had enough roses to buy Mesmerus before it disappeared from the market. Now I will have to spend the 10,000 EC for the decor, which I was already planning to do, AND buy a Mesmer for 13,000).

Sigh. We've had events I felt were way worse than this. Three dragons have a 10% cloning chance -- and two a pretty good vale breed chance. That's two weeklies people are unlikely to spend roses on and one starter.
That leaves three unbreedable starter dragons and one evolve. Only getting one or no starter dragons cloned in an event is normal for me. At the moment, I needed the 10 event decorations and 2 more starters... which is consequently an average event.
I'll need to choose between buying two omnitats, and one starter. Or, two starters and an omnitat. That's it. Aside from dragon week barging in when I need so many event dragons rifted, this is... a normal occurrance.
I guess some completionist parks may get worried for the first time in months. Yes, that stinks. But, it's not that painful for people who play half time, really.

Absolutely with you on this one. DECA have really messed up this event in one fell swoop. Divi is the only thing saving this event for me.
to buy 10k event candy (the amount required to get all of the decos needed to evolve Mesmer) would cost $50 US. NEVER. GONNA. HAPPEN. the only logical explanation is that Deca is trying to weed out players in coercing them to quit the game. FIVE unbreedabke dragons (so far), while simultaneously chasing four or five limited dragons and all the new decos. No way to complete everything without spending HOARDS of real cash. If players can’t complete, they will drop out like flies — they will NOT spend $50 to complete. Deca is intentionally killing their own game. No other logical explanation that I can come up with. Am I missing something, here?
I'm guessing the original intention was not to release Mesmerus as a dragon than could be bought. When the first evolution dragons were released, I believe they couldn't be bought, only evolved for. I don't know if DECA has released any evolution dragons besides Mesmerus, and if so whether they could immediately be bought. But Mesmerus' pretty much immediate removal probably means it wasn't intended to be able to be bought. As for spending real money, 10k EC isn't that hard to get later game; it would take a week to get at the absolute most, not including the possibility of plant farming, which would take four or five hours total at most to get to 10k EC if it was done on double days.
My problem is that people bought Mesmerus when it was available, and now that it isn't, that's completely and utterly unfair to people who would have bought it and chose to wait.
As I mentioned in another comment, it's always more cost efficient to buy evolution dragons directly (unless you want all decorations or a traited version). So it is silly that they've forced evolution on those of us who didn't get Mesmerus immediately and want to get it during this event. Of course, it's likely that Mesmerus will be available to buy (rather than just evolve for) next Valentine's event, but that's a whole year from now. We may as well count getting it from an EoM as impossible due to the miniscule chance you'll get Mesmerus, and you can't parent clone it without one of your own.
My vote is for them to re-release Mesmerus for a day or two at the price it was originally. Make it clear it's not going to last very long, and then everyone who considered buying it can buy it. As it is right now, it's unfair because it puts the people who managed to buy it at an unfair advantage, even if only for a year.

In a plot twist, Deca created a dragon, and hotsaucechicken recreated a dragon based on the Deca dragon, then Deca recreated a dragon based on the recreated dragon hotsaucechicken created from their dragon. 🤪
We have officially come full circle and entered a new timeline. And Mesmer is better off for it.

This is the first design Deca has added to the Vale that is based on one of their dragons, and it’s also the first time a dragon has been added that did not originate from the Community Design Contest. Hotsaucechicken posted the redesign on Reddit last year, after Mesmer’s release.
Mesmerus is an evolution dragon with Mesmer as the base dragon. Collect all ten Idol of Hypnosis decorations to evolved Mesmer into Mesmerus, or simply buy him from the market.

Mesmer's low odds (under 1%) mean the fact there's still time to breed it still doesn't make Mesmerus leaving the market fair. Most people who don't yet have Mesmer won't have got it by the end of the event.
Besides, while I get what you mean about long term, I specifically planned out this event so I could definitely afford Mesmerus once it was leaked. I might not be able to afford Mesmerus and the likely incredibly expensive new releases next year. I struggle to get the new releases as it is; I only can if I manage to breed a limited.
DECA just need to admit they made a bad decision and re-release Mesmerus, even if for a limited time.
I remember that when Umbra was released two years ago, it's decorations could only be obtained from the limited market during the remainder of Whitbee's Candy Bash: Into the Dark. For the events thereafter, they could be obtained via the typical minigames.
I would figure the same will go with the Idols, so thats one reason why I am buying them. The other is that I am breeding for Mesmer in the Rift, so if I do get one with a trait, I can clone it then evolve the spare one into a rifted Mesmerus.

We got Mesmer last year and pretty much no one liked its design, we got Mesmerus taken away this year... Something to do with the Mesmer line is going to go wrong next Valentine's event. Maybe the dragon Mesmerus will undoubtedly be required for will actually cost real money if you don't manage to breed it for the three seconds it's available for.

I sure hope you get some sort of compensation for putting up with all of us.

Is the only way to get one of the ten idols needed to evolve Mesmer to buy a chest? So to get this dragon we have to buy a chest 10 times and then pay an evolve fee?
I guess Presidents’ Day is an apt time for this release.
Yeah, unless Deca puts the decos in the mini games, you have to buy them, or just buy Mesmerus. I know, it’s not good. I reported the problem to Deca, but I don’t know if they’ll change it.
Yeah it feels like that has to be a mistake, I've never been forced to buy decoration chests before. I'll waste a hundred gems on games before I waste my EC lmao
Though I do still enjoy the game, I will admit that from the more recent decisions, DECA seems like it's trying to squeeze every last penny out of the players.
In chronological order, these are the worst offenders:
Dragon Draw. It was originally introduced a couple of years ago as an alternative way for players to get new dragons. However, in truth it is just a deceitful way to get more in-app purchases, since as you already know, it is essentially a raffle. For free-to-play players to win a dragon draw is extremely hard, especially due to the 50 free soul shard caps, the low payout of shards per day, and the fact that most dragons take multiple thousands of shards to complete. On top of that, the very first time Dragon Draw was released, it was so buggy that the developers had to remove the feature within an hour, which also resulted in the softlock of a lot of players. It took OVER A YEAR for the bugs from the initial release to be resolved, and until then, players like myself who were lucky enough to get the Summoning Circle before its removal could do absolutely nothing with it. In conclusion, let me say that if DECA releases an unfinished, buggy feature, especially considering the concept of the draw, it makes them really seem like they are just in for the money.
Eggy Hatchy. Released for the very first Camp DragonVale event, Eggy Hatchy has become a staple to certain events. However, the whole ticket system involved with it screams for in-app purchases and want for more money. But the worst part about it was that, for the first couple of events in which Eggy Hatchy could be played, there were levels that were NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETE. As a result, players often wasted their tickets, and money, trying to complete this level on a tower which literally is unable to be completed. This problem was originally so bad that DECA had to tone down the difficulty, and ended up giving 5 tickets to every player upon the fix of the issue. At least it has been better lately, though it still is a zone for money.
New evolution dragons. The release of Umbra, and now Mesmerus, were critical points for EC purchases. The largest difference between then and now is that when Umbra was released, it could be directly purchased rather than evolved, though the price of the Umbra Dragon was MORE THAN BUYING ALL THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO BUY IT (it was about 17,000EC)... especially considering that the Scout Dragon had been featured for two consecutive events. Mesmerus, however, has more expensive decorations than Umbra's, AND also cannot be purchased in the market anymore. Oh, what a want for money.
And lastly, the Offerwall. Let's just say that I REALLY HATE THE FEATURE. It just screams for DECA to find a cheap way to get more money. In fact, the Offerwall was the reason why I quit playing Dragon City. It's full of scams, you don't get the gems half the time, and quite a few of the 'offers' require you to spend money in a different game-and of the free offers, you're either time crunched for the reward, or will receive very few gems. I can go on and on about why I hate the feature. When it was released, I posted my entire rant on the DragonVale subreddit, and if you want to view it, here is the link.
Despite all of these additions which has received mixed reviews, there are still many things that DECA has done to improve the game. The dragon designs have overall been very good lately, and remember that without them, we wouldn't even have DragonVale.

Mesmerus is a magnificent looking dragon. Huge congratulations to hotsaucechicken for getting another dragon included in DragonVale. I really love this one.
Not so sure about Nomnoter - I'm hoping it will grow on me.
I bred a Nomnoter in the rift - unrifted. 🙄 I would really, really like a rifted version so that I can try to breed rifted versions of the dragons I need that available for Dragons Week. 😊
Dear Members Don’t be offended, but I wanted to say something I try to read everything you write; my english is not very good so i'm not going to write a novel BUT i just wanted to say: don't be too hard on DECA because if our game still exists it's thanks to them. When you are missing a dragon you can always use a wish (or the dragon will eventually arrive on its own in a daily reward) I have been playing for over ten years and have always managed to get all the dragons without spending any money, so nothing is impossible. 😉 if it was too easy to have all the dragons don't you think that the game would be less interesting? Again I don’t want to upset anyone, just say what I think 😊
