There is no time limit. The Claims button will reset one time for all your activated caves until the event ends and the RBCs disappear.

To claim a traited version of a dragon from the Runic Breeding Caves, you must have a twin first, before you can claim a traited version. (Just to be clear, you cannot breed traited dragons in the RBC's)
This is from adlerist 's Runic Caves 101, which explains it so well ' You can claim the same egg more than once from a different RBC. This is especially helpful for players who want a twin or traited-twin dragon. The RBCs follow the same pattern as the mystery eggs (regular > twin > traited-twin). You only need to breed the dragon once in any RBC, then you can claim the regular version from one cave, the twin from a different cave, and the traited-twin from a third cave.'
Assuming that there will be a free dragon to select at the end of the event, it also follows the same regular > twin > traited-twin format.
PSA: Important information about the resetting of the Claims button
Some clarification on how the reset Claims button works. Many thanks to Calli and the FB DragonVale Group for investigating this further.
• If you made claims from the Runic Breeding Caves before yesterday (8 January), the Claims button will now show one claim left instead of zero.
• If you didn’t make a claim from the Runic Breeding Caves earlier, after you make a claim now, force close the game and reopen. The Claims button will be reset and you’ll be able to make another claim from the cave.This is important because most players wait until the end of the event to make their claims and may not know the Claims button will reset.
• Instead of 10 dragons, it is now possible to claim 19 dragons from the RBCs (the always active main cave only has one claim and cannot be reset).
When I read about the compensation yesterday, I thought it was only for the players that had purchased runestones and they had their caves reset. I didn't realise that it applied to all players.
This is huge! Bigger than huge! Thank you so much adlerist and the Game Reps for convincing Deca to the the players who purchased runestones needed to be fairly compensated. Thank you Deca for making the compensation and resetting the caves. 😊

I actually was able to claim from that cave, and I'm 99% sure I already had done. I'd suggest people double check whether or not they can get a second claim from this cave, just in case!

I don't know if it works for those who hadn't already claimed from the main cave, but I claimed something from the main cave at the very beginning of the event and did have the chance to grab a second dragon from the same cave this morning.
In the Dragonarium, when I sort by “available” dragons I still see all dragons. Am I doing something wrong? I would like to be able to see just the green hourglass dragons (and those that are always available) so I know which I can work on for traited versions.

It's meant to list all dragons, but have available dragons first.
However, I always find that there are some outliers (e.g. say Razzle shows up with the available dragons even though it's not), so it looks like there's an issue with that setting anyway.

The FB Folks said the main cave doesn’t reset. If it did for player who already made a claim that is amazingly terrific!

The Claims button reset is activated after you’ve made a claim from a cave, closed the game, and then reopened. If you choose to make all your claims at once, when you visit the Vale again, all the claims should be reset. If you choose to claim one dragon, only that claim will be reset. The rest of the caves won’t reset until you make a claim.
