Lotusthreads is the name of my etsy shop. I used to sell my stuff under the name Zenya, but when I went to register on etsy, Zenya was already taken, so I had to come up with a new name.
As a textile artist, most of my works were heavily influenced by Japanese aesthetics, and the bags I was selling on etsy were made from old kimonos, so I wanted a name that sounded vaguely Japanese. As lotuses are my favourite flower, I ended up with lotusthreads as my shop name.
I have been using the name lotusthreads on all forums ever since
I haven't visited this thread in awhile....Just "hearted" your Etsy shop. Your handbags look very fun!
Peachwhip came to me by way of a joke by friends when I was younger. Hopefully I don't offend anyone, but Peach came from a certain body part and Whip came because of my love for Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. Really enjoy reading how others came up with their GCID.
Haha! My friend's ex-boyfriend use to call her peaches for the same reason!
And I assumed you were from Hawaii since Dole-Whips and the like are big over there. Guess I made a "peach out of 'u' and 'me'" lol!
LemmyLoop is my universal username. If you're on some other website and you find another LemmyLoop it is probably me.
That being said, LemmyLoop is really short for Lemniscate Loop. I knew I would get tired of typing in Lemniscate so I shortened it to Lemmy. For those of you who don't know, a lemniscate is what you call the shape of the infinity symbol! I have a thing for infinity and time, so you can imagine how excited I was about Kairos. His perch is covered in lemniscates, and he spits infinity symbols.
The loop is a reference to various things, but when I first brought the name into existence it was for my craft blog. The blog heavily features my knittingcrochet projects, so I thought loop would be fitting. They are both basically a series of intricate loops.
So... I guess my GCID kind of means... knitting forever.
*like* ...and I like your craft blog too! Especially the crocheted dragons! I'll have to put a sidebar link on my blog so I can find it easily again.
My first name is Ryno (pronounced Ray-know), hence the first part of my username. Most english speaking people call me Rhino though.
The second part requires some explanation. In Afrikaans, a South African language, the word Renoster means rhino. There used to be a local televised puppet type show where there was a rhino, and his name was Ryno Renoster. Friends used to call me that sometimes and eventually I just put the two together and formed Rynoster.

Mine comes from Dilly Dally, because playing games seems like Dilly-Dallying to me, fun & proper nonsense. Also heard my friend's little boy recite the poem Daffadowndilly (by A.A. Milne) at the time & it was So sweet. It all fell together Perfectly! I'm using it for all sorts of games & such
My youngest daughters grandmother calls her dilly dally dolly. She hates it now that she's 23 but it stuck. We we watching a scooby doo episode and there was a dilly dally doll company. We got a big laugh out of that.

Aww how sweet! I hate it when they grow up. Grandma ALWAYS called my Dad Petie (instead of Pete) it was funny to hear a man into his Late 60s being called Petie. Don't know at what age she stopped calling him "LITTLE Petie". LOL

Haha, I remember my aunt saying that to me because I was such a slow eater. Good to know your GCID has nothing to do with pickles, which is where my head was going.

Yeah we went to visit old friends of my dad's when I was about 12 and they called him Cliffie. My brother and I thought that was soooo funny. Everyone else called him Linky but his name was Cliff. Linky was cuz of our last name being Lingenfelter.
While we're sharing stories about names, my mothers father is James Hall. My oldest brother, his first grand child, was with him in his workshop when he was hammering, working on one project or another. My brother, a toddler at the time, called him "Banger", and now, nearly 50 years on, that's still what we all call him.
These are great! My cousin was Corky to us from birth. Remained Corky until his wife insisted we refer to him by Robert, or Bob. He got rid of the wife and has returned to Corky.
