ARGG I finally got Plasma, after a month of almost non stop breeding. However, I am now in a hopeless zone. I am trying to breed an Amber and a Current. Of course, those are definitely 2 of the things that I have not gotten. I suppose it is good it has a short fail time because Amber has tons of long fail times (still not sure if I am breeding a Moon or Rainbow) but at least I will know tomorrow. Since I have gotten 4 cactus today and 2 swamp at least I have something to do. I just wish they were worth more money . I am breeding 2 15's for the Amber and 1 15 and 1 14 for the Current. Does anyone think raising the level to 15 on the other dragon might help? Thanks

According to BFS, raising to Level 15 is supposed to increase the odd somewhat. I recommend you to raise the level to 15 if you can afford it.

Yes they do claim it, but there seems to be precious little evidence in the field for the claim. Apart from Poppy's string of DRs while trying for Dream with L20s on the Island that is.
@guest15. Opposite dragons are always hard to get. And there always seems to be one "nemesis" dragon that tries hard to elude you. For me it was Sandstorm, but others have noticed the same effect with other dragons. The best advice I can give is to double check the combination against the Sandbox and be patient. As it is permanent, there is no clock you are trying to beat. Though it IS the best earner of all the standard dragons.
And koala to you.

Climo...I foynd that although backflip says level 15 gives best chances for breeding thst I must use level 17s in order to achieve this...since I just attained level 52 (woo hoo!) That may increase now... just sayin...
Btw I FAILED at getting a leaf dragon thst really bites...took 18 days to get a peridot...non stop. I really think it is Too hard to breed since the rule changes last winter (I guess actually it was Fall 2013?)...
Are you listening Backflip? Shouldn't be hard.. its a GAME. ..

That's what BFS said. It would be difficult to prove or disprove that Level 15 would help or not. I just feel more confident when I use Level 15 and up.
I am sorry to hear that you missed Leaf. I think DragonVale as a game of probability. Sometimes you get a dragon on first try but sometimes it will take forever. I got a Leaf on my third park at the first try and got two Leafs in five tries at my first park. I thought Leaf was a gift from BFS after so-difficlut-to-get Dream and Hydra. On my second park, however, it took me a long time to get Leaf.
I could not get a Peridot last year but got it this year. I am pretty sure you will get a Leaf when it becomes available next time.

I'm not following your logic here... how would the breeding rule changes affect the likelihood of getting your first Leaf?
Obviously it is harder to get your third leaf/egg now, since cloning is no longer 100%. But that wouldn't apply here.
As far as we have been able to determine, they didn't change the breeding percentages in that update.
Of course, Leaf is a new dragon, so we have no direct before/after point of reference. One could argue that some of the new rare dragons seem harder to get. But Leaf is in the same breeding percentage range that most epic limited dragons have historically been in (about a base 3-5% chance)...
I have been frantically trying to raise my dragons for Aug/Sept. based on Bloodstone's breeding guide, but it is really hard. I have been playing since June and with raising my dragon levels, it is very draining. Definitely a probability game - and one of the first things said to me on this board (by dragonmagic) is that this game requires patience. I do not have a lot of that skill, but I have decided that if I do not get a dragon that is limited, there is always next year. There are a lot of 'hybrid dragons' that I have not even tried to breed because I have been so busy trying to breed limited dragons.
I know everyone talks about having the one nemesis dragon that is difficult to get. My experience has been that ALL of the opposites are difficult. The few I have took almost a month of breeding just for that dragon. However, I talked to someone the other day that has been playing since the beginning that is still missing a few dragons... so, just try for the specials that you want - and remember there will be another chance.
So, for the first time since I started playing, I am going to have a dragon left in the breeding cave with no place to put it in the hatchery! I am still finding that I never have enough money, gems, or food... but I am hoping that as I increase the number of gem dragons and levels, I will finally feel like I am not constantly scrambling! It would be nice to have enough gems to buy a dragon I missed - or enough money that if I actually bred a dream dragon, that I could afford the habitat.
I find a lot of times I do not have the recommended dragons to breed when it comes to panlong, bloom, cotton, love, etc. I expect that most of those are spring dragons but are they all spring/summer?

Love is a February (Valentines) Dragon Cotton is an anniversary dragon (I expect to see come back in September)
Panlong was a Year of the Dragon dragon two years ago and you can only get now in a BEB event

Bloom is spring, I believe. yes.
I don't think Cotton would come back outside of a BeB. Paper didn't return last year for the anniversary. And Panlong might come back...in 10 more years.

And right there you have the beginning of patience. Keep practicing and the skill will come.

As I have mentioned my nemesis dragon was Sandstorm. But yes the opposites are harder to get than most. I took at least a month for most of the opposites, but Sandstorm took about 8 months of breeding for it anytime I was not trying for a limited.

I spent a month just breeding for my sandstorm and over a month just breeding for my plasma. However, maybe it is reassuring that that is somewhat normal. Unfortunately this game requires a certain amount of luck, which I do not have. However, I have a ton determination and stubbornness . I have only tried to breed for one dark dragon because I had just gotten that ability when all of the limited and new dragons became available. However, since they are not going anywhere, I will work on them when or IF i get amber etc. However, it really hurts your ability to improve your level when you are not actually hatching new dragons or have the time to run a ton of races.
To quote a wise old fisherman when asked what the best lure was: "the fly that is in the water most catches the most fish."

Sometimes it can help to break up a long slog by breeding for something else. Perhaps the occasional Air x Air for a bit of DC. Stubborn and determined is good, relatives of patience. Keep trying, you will get them.
In my park2, I still need to get Blue Fire and Dodo. Plasma and Current were difficult. I needed plasma for breeding Jade, and had to wait a while. Just as well Jade was available for three months.

Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...

It didn't? I expected the anniversary dragons to come back. Oh well

Already planning forward for the next Bring 'em Back...
The limited ones I am missing are: Amethyst Arbor Bearded Carnival Clover Garnet Kite Lunar Eclipse Mistletoe Moonstruck Rose Sakura Spring Terradiem Victory Winter Zombie
Quite an extensive list...
Out of those these only Lunar Eclipse and Zombie will come back before BeB.
Mistletoe should also make it back before then —just! Also, victory seems tied to major sporting events. I wouldn't rule it out either.

Okay, so far I've found these combos:
Moss+Pepper for Carnival/Clover Meteor+Mountain for L.Eclipse/Winter/Bearded Flower+Liberty for Kite/Rose Bloom+Meteor for Kite/Victory Century+Orchid for L.Eclipse/Terradiem/Winter

Oh, must've missed that about Mistletoe, but thank you
What major sport event would make Victory come back before BeB?
