Maybe I will understand most of what I'm reading when I get all my shrines, my question is WAY more simple .. If I'm leveling a dragon to 10 and then sell, will it count toward the shrine I do not have yet? For example, I do not have a Water shrine, but I'm leveling up to 10 and selling my Plant/Water dragons. When I get my water shrine, will it show that I leveled that water dragon up to 10? And which dragon is the best to breed to count towards most shrines (least time for breeding, etc.)

Yes any of your dragons leveled to 10 will still count toward your silver shrine but if you sell them you will have to level another dragon to 15 for the gold.

Any dragons sold BEFORE you buy the shrine will NOT count towards that shrine. But if you sell them AFTER you have bought it they WILL be remembered by the shrine.
The best dragons to use are dragons with more than 2 elements because they most efficiently make use of the food. Paper and Panlong have 4 elements, so they are good to start with.
Turning your shrines silver is something that is just going to happen. A plan of attack is really only worth looking into when you want to try and turn them gold.

Shrines are very confusing at the beginning, but by the time your shrines are silver you will be an old hand and ready to tackle the gold. Fletch will be here to help you.

There are generic formulas that Fletch has used to obtain Silver and then Gold shrines. I would be happy to help you if you could give me a list of the specific dragons you have. That will enable me to know what you can breed to get there with ease. Also, make sure you continuously grow, grow and grow food and never let those fields be empty!!!

Air: you have 13- You need to breed 14 pans and 8 Chromes.
Cold: you have 5- You need to breed 37 blooms and 8 mine.
Earth: you have 16- Above you already bred the needed 14 panlongs for most of this. To finish off, breed 5 irons.
Plant: you have 5- Above you are breeding the 37 blooms for this plus you need to add 8 ironwood or malachite.
Fire: you have 16- You are already breeding 14 panlongs, add to this 5 brass.
Lightening: you have 13- You are already breeding the 37 blooms for this.
Metal: you have 10- To finish this off you need to breed 5 additional Magnetics. (This will put you over 50 in the lightening category, but it's ok.)
Water: you have 15- You are already breeding 14 panlongs, add 6 rust to be done!
So...summary: 37 blooms 14 panlongs 8 chrome 8 mine 8 Ironwood or Malachtite 6 rust 5 iron 5 brass.
Then feed and level up as you can! I recommend growing food while breeding panlongs overnight, do the shorter breedings during the day, or every other day. This should help keep you on track with feeding them up as you go! Koala!!!

As to the other comment about needing more Panlongs; I started out having them breed 34! But...with needing 40 Metal, many if those longer breed times can be eliminated and substituted for the dragons needed to up the Metal shrine at the same time. I think 13 plus the ones already in place are plenty for the park.
This is only one way. In this game and method of shrine grind there are always many ways to arrive at the same outcome!!! It's about patience, food and making sure you have ALL elements covered!

I don't understand! How do you get 50 earth and air elements without the extra panlongs? Do you mean you just breed a load of sandstorms as well because of the shorter breeding time?

Lol sorry I still don't understand. Using Servants method I'm still only seeing 35 earth and 35 metals including the chromed and irons. I understand rynoster's method. I think I'm missing something vital! Like a functioning brain perhaps!
