I have it on good authority that Hasbro has closed Backflip studios forever effective today. Dragonvale has two months before they are going to no longer support the game.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no Backflip IP will be updated in 2020.

I hope that's not true. Years ago, there was a video highlighting the team that designed the dragons. An illustrator spoke with excitement about how much she loved the work. I thought that working in beautiful Boulder designing a beautiful game would be a dream job. But of course, dreams end and it hasn't felt like it must be a fun job for years, given the glitches and different feel since Hasbro took over. Still, a job that isn't a dream job is better than no job at all. And that doesn't even touch how much I'd miss the game.
So, yes, it seems this is confirmed now. From the look of things, Backflip staff found out about this decision only today. The timing makes sense: yesterday was the Hasbro Q3 earnings call, and I gather that the day after such events tend to be the ones where this type of executive decision is carried out.
DragonVale was a wonderful game and I'm going to miss it dearly. After so many years where it was a daily fixture, its absence will leave a hole in my life. I'm going to record a trip through my vale in the next few days to preserve at least an echo of my park for posterity; even if does continue to run un-updated, there'll only be so long before the corporate overlords want the server space back. My thanks go out to everyone at Backflip, past and present, and wish for those currently employed there good opportunities in this unfortunate situation. So long, and thanks for all the Dragons.
Well I am really going to miss the game and everyone here. This is one of the best and friendliest game forums I have ever seen or been a part of. Thanks you to all the moderators and administrators here.
I don't comment on here often (since I never made an account), and I don't cry very often but today I did both. I remember very clearly that Dragonvale was the first game besides the standard solitaire games that downloaded onto my new iTouch way back on December 28th 2011. I've played this game every single day, even going as far as to sit outside of bars to get the free wifi while on vacation, I've looked forward to every update with excitement and anticipation.
My happiness with this game has spread to other people who have gotten this game because of how much I love the free to play experience, and while I have not given BFS money in quite a while; I don't regret the money that I've spent because this game was the only dragon game that did not jump to the pay to get special dragons that is sooo common.
And unfortunately that decision to opt out of the greed is what most likely caused their downfall, most of the members here have talked about how they have stopped giving money to BFS for various reasons, and now we are seeing the consequences of that. I've also stopped give BFS money due to the fact that I can get everything without an in-game purchase, the rift breading cave has been my lifesaver for these limited time dragons.
I have spent so much of my life on this game (8 years this December) and when I heard that they were closing I cried, and even while writing this my eyes are watery. When the severs (supposedly) stop working in 2020 I don't know what I'll do without this amazing game in my life, I've deleted all the other dragon games in the App Store because of the fact that they are pay to own dragons.
I don't think that the Dragonvale fan base has enough force behind it to change the minds of Hasbro especially since the former dev talked about a severance package. All I really want to say is THANK YOU to everyone for making this game so enjoyable to play and to talk about. At the end of the day it's not just a game that will be deleted, but a whole community that will fade away into nothing, and that is what really hurts the most.
Maybe in the next couple days/weeks we will learn more about what is going to happen and I've jumped to conclusions about the fate of DragonVale, but I just need to write this so that I can get some sleep tonight, and not tossing and turning all night long.
I will enjoy the next two months with a heavy heart and memories in my mind, but at this moment I don't know how I'll fill the void that will be there when the severs are supposedly shut down. I guess I now know what the fans of Club Penguin felt like in the last moments of that games life. I will celebrate my 8 year anniversary with my dragons and then say my goodbyes the next day.
Thank you for those who have read this message, it's mostly a ramble of what is on my mind right now with no new information. I hope we can all get though this emotional time together, and remember all the good times we've had over the past 8 years.

I am so shocked. I have played this game for years as a way to relax. I am very sad this game is coming to a end. I have really enjoyed this forum and the people who took the time to make charts and test out combos and explain some of the weird things Backflip had us do to evolve dragons. Mostly I will miss the people who went out of their way to help others, it is rare to find that today. I am a old Everquest player and this community reminded me of my old guild.
Maybe someone could find a game that the community could continue to play.

Another Everquest player, nice! I started EQ when it was in a closed beta, and stuck with it for quite a while. That was quite a long time ago.

Say it ain’t so!
Hi folks, we (Dragonvale community proboards) are just reeling with the news that seems to be real and not just the best ever ‘trick’. You may like to peruse the accolades and thanks that are rolling in from members posting in several threads. Sincere thanks for the many years of relaxation, challenge and pleasure the developers, artists and writers gave so many people all over the world. Sadly at a time when countries seem to be tearing themselves asunder, one of the lovely things that used to unite us across borders, religions, languages and cultures appears to be preparing to take a bow and retire behind the curtain. Thanks for all your work and talent. Warmest wishes for the future
I have not been playing Dragonvale as long as so many of you (2016) but it will leave a hole in my everyday doings. Always looked forward to reading the post and playing. Will miss my dragons and all the great people. What a world we would have if we could spread the good will and comrodery that has been shown by all here in DragonVale. I wish the BF people all the best. There is a lot of great talent going out to other places now. Thank you for all you did with and for Dragonvale and us. I wish everyone here all the best as well. I wish there was some way to save our dragons from the dragon slayer (Hasbro). I will play until the final curtain but it will be with a heavy 💔. Pardon the errors hard to type with tears 😢 in eyes.

What is scary is Everquest came out in 1999 and is still going strong www.everquest.com/expansion-content. I went back and logged in 6 years or so when I received a free month from them and was surprised that some of the old players were still playing. I just checked, EverQuest’s 26th expansion is coming out in December. Now I feel old.😂

Anyone know where to find this video? I would like to see it.
Like everyone else, this news hit me like a ton of bricks. Been playing since the very beginning, very sadden the game has finally reached the end of its shelf life...for financial reasons. The possibility were limitless and its potential still untapped, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I don’t remember NOT logging everyday to check on my dragons. The only time I didn’t log in was when the game was crashing on the splash screen. A new device fixed that issue, btw
For me, DV has been the one and only game that brought out new and original content/ideas season after season, event after event, year after year. It was refreshing and not just the same old, same old. And for that alone, I applaud everyone at BFS for their tireless efforts to keep us players engaged, addicted and yearning for more.
I still remember my first plant dragon. That one single dragon having the entire island all by its lonesome. The fire dragon came soon after. Breeding those 2 little guys for the poison and flower was possibly the most memorable, yet anxious time, I ever had playing a game. I actually felt like a father waiting for the birth of his child lol. But in all seriousness, through all the 48hr fails and 1st try successes, this game has brought me and my friends countless hrs of grief, joy and memories. For that, I am eternally grateful. This game will forever have a special place in my heart. DragonVale, u’ve come a long way...u will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
To all the mods, jokesters, contributors, forumers of this forum, thank u to all of u. It was a pleasure reading ur posts. This place wouldn’t be the same without each and every single one of u. U were my encyclopedia of all things DV, a place for new dragon combos, a place to lean on for glitches/issues, and of course, for “koalas” *Standing ovation*
For every ending, there’s a new beginning. Enjoy and savor each minute of this amazing game cuz I know I will It was one helluva run!
I can’t begin to touch the eloquence of some of the posts from the members of this great community, but am Very grateful to have a place to come and express my shock and sorrow and to grieve the demise of this centerpiece in so many of our lives. Playing this wonderful game has been a daily part of my life as well; seeing me through several surgeries and recuperation during cancer treatment. Dragonvale certainly exceeded my expectations for gameplay, providing a beautiful place to play every day without gratuitous violence, but with intellectual stimulation, humour, and fun. We were so fortunate to enjoy playing this game of strategy, with incredible design elements, and the pure joy of surprise elements.
While I was beginning to be weary of the breeding pacing (after 10 days of breeding constantly, still no Eldritch), and the gameplay did seem to be more and more haphazard with too many bugs, I certainly will miss Dragonvale and the members of this incredible community. I, like so many of you, have hope of a resurrection. (Recently, I have discovered Godus which was abandoned years ago and has found new life.)
I do realize such hopeful thinking is most likely futile. Yet, there is a small flicker - anyone have any Kickstarter expertise?
Well kiddos, time will tell how all this is going to play out. As with so many it came as a shock to me, though I don’t know why as for many years I’ve watched CEOs of multinational corporations make short term decisions which never take into account their customers, employees, or shareholders.
Finally, a break between events!
I would have hoped that at least one programmer, after getting the news and going back to their desk to pack up, would have popped into the program and changed the breeding odds from 2% to 20% at least for the event dragons. What’s a zero between friends? Go out with a splash! And I would hope that if they leave the game on the internet, even without updates and support, that they at least turn BEB on for those completionists among us.
