Congrats to all on the success with your dragon of choice! I am having the worst luck ever! I have been trying for a second Apocalypse as I did not want to buy him, but after my streak in both cave and island I have decided to bite the bullet.
Fletch, here are my numbers. I can not figure out why I can not get a second. I got the first after 3 tries in the cave. Since then.
In the cave - 61 attempts of those I got 3 48 hour. On the island - 38 attempts of those 1 LYD, 4 BMD, 2 Silver and 3 48 hour.
So after these two 48 hours come out in 2 days I will start trying for the Garnet. My first try for him was a 48 h fail.

Apocalypse is pretty rare. You were most fortunate to get one in 3 tries. The odds even out eventually, and that's what you are seeing there, although it does seem to have swung to the other way.

Wow bought my Apocalypse and thought I would have to wait the 20 h 12 m for him to hatch. Well it went straight to the habitat! This was great since I have 2 suns hatching. Has this happened to anyone else?
Yes, to me and my daughter. This is the only dragon we have ever bought with gems, apart from Gift for 0 gems at Christmas --- is this not the normal way that it works?
Not at all. Normally an egg goes to the hatchery. Although it has been forever since I bought a dragon, maybe they changed it.

With the Malachite I decided I was going to breed it or else. But these fails did me in! The first dragon I have bought other than the ones we had to in the beginning.
Guess it depends on who you are. My hubby has the best luck ever with his park. It is really Odd. His epic fails are always Rainbows. And he had no trouble getting all the Limiteds when they came back. Also 2 Apocs with only a few short fails. But, he does not play that often. Only when I say there is a new dragon released or about twice a week to pick up coins. I think he has better luck because BFS wants to encourage those type of players to play more! That is my view on it.
Every time I open DV and get those sweet notices "Your friend [whomever] sent you a gem." I think of you all and send you a little "Thank you!" through the ethers. Just wanted to say that b/c there's no other way to tell you (except by returning a gem, of course!) So, thanks!
In breeding news, no garnet yet - FOUR eclipses, drat it! and several smokes and a couple lavas. I was noticing Fletch's recent post about dragon level, order placed for breeding, switching to new couple - none of it makes any difference... So, I guess the gene theory we used to operate off of (breeding the child[ren] of a breeding pair may be more likely to result in success) is pure fantasy? What about a dragon dance and chant? Whining?? Begging!!

Also - I decided to start migrating to longer-term dc-making habitats as well; I just don't have the capacity to visit every hour to collect from all the pans...

Having bought a few dragons in desperation myself, I think if you go through the market, the dragon goes directly to a habitat or HC if you don't have one open. If you go through the hatchery and click "buy egg" you have to hatch the dragon egg. That way you can choose to display it when it's finished cooking.

Yes, it all falls into the same category - and we can include the open gates theory, too. I can hear the sighing continents away.

If you buy an egg for DC, 7 of the 8 pure element dragons, then it goes to the hatchery. All the dragons you buy for gems go straight to a habitat or the HC. You can't get a Gemstone Egg without breeding it the hard way.
Been trying for Platinum using Rust n Water but have consistently gotten Rust! At least it's a short ail time and sells for a bit! This is my 8th fail in a row but will press on.

Yes I agree. But with the deadline looming on the Apocalypse I might just have to succumb to my urge of getting my second Apocalypse from the market.
Hatched my first garnet today and have a second on the nest for another 30 hours for my display so with that done i can go back to trying for that elusive second platinum ive been hoping for. Ive lost count of how many rust fails ive had but i want to put the number easily over a hundred. At least the high dc rusts helped me get that first crown. Only upside so far. Platypus to all still looking for a garnet.
And i know the autocorrect changes g.luck to koala but i happen to be fond of the platypus as well

The best chances for you to get a second Platinum is to breed it with a Gold. This will give you a 1 in 3 chance of getting a Platinum (33.33%), a much higher percentage than breeding it again with water and rust.

Yes, and it looks much stranger now with it just floating in the air. I prefer it hopping on the ground all cute and all and it looks better that way in my opinion.

I got my 1st as well. Mine was on the island and was actually a surprise. Didn't realize I had one until it was incubating. This is after I thought I got lucky early on and had two breeding at the same time and they both ended up being LE's.
My goal this year was to get Gem displays so I have two more to go!
