All I need to get is a platinum and I have all of the dragons again (until the next comes out). To complete my collection of dragons, I need a second Love, Clover, Plantium, Gold Olympus, Equinox, and Seasonal.. Come on love or clover.. It would be nice before the limited bring em back ends. If not I have Feb and March to try.
Finally got my Garnet...and in the cave no less! Had been faithfully using the EBI thinking that it would improve my chances, but apparently not. Yay!!
I think about 80% of my gems have come from the cave, I guess the DV wizards do what they will!
Yeah, never doubt the cave. I've gotten various rares in it as well. Bone, SED, Bloom, Love, Sakura, Ruby, Gold. I got my first Sun in the cave. Ah, good memories. Though, my island does tend to get more rares.
It seems like sometimes the percentage changes between cave and island and sometimes it does not. Is there some kind of rule as to which have set percentages and which will be easier to get in the island?
Every time I open DV and get those sweet notices "Your friend [whomever] sent you a gem." I think of you all and send you a little "Thank you!" through the ethers. Just wanted to say that b/c there's no other way to tell you (except by returning a gem, of course!) So, thanks!
In breeding news, no garnet yet - FOUR eclipses, drat it! and several smokes and a couple lavas. I was noticing Fletch's recent post about dragon level, order placed for breeding, switching to new couple - none of it makes any difference... So, I guess the gene theory we used to operate off of (breeding the child[ren] of a breeding pair may be more likely to result in success) is pure fantasy? What about a dragon dance and chant? Whining?? Begging!!
;D
Also - I decided to start migrating to longer-term dc-making habitats as well; I just don't have the capacity to visit every hour to collect from all the pans...
All my news in a nutshell!
Yes, it all falls into the same category - and we can include the open gates theory, too. I can hear the sighing continents away.
However, the whining on this board has definitely been proven to increase your breeding odds. No doubt about it.
Heh. I'm a world-class whiner, trust me! Follow-up question though, to the gene-theory rule and other theories now de-bunked: If you have two of each dragon needed for a particular outcome (two obsidians, two smokes, for example), and you keep "mixing and matching" them, instead of continually mating the same two over and over, does it mess up your odds of success? Are you, so to speak, throwing your chances to the back of the line over and over? by not mating the same two every time?

It doesn't make any difference, the wizards don't actually know how many times you've tried or which particular dragon is breeding.

Rainbow seems to be 1% chance in either. And I think there was one other that did not give a higher chance in the Island, but I can't remember which one ... maybe Platinum? One of them with a very low % rate.
But most rares and limiteds have between 1.5 and 2 times the chance of getting them in the Island.

This. If you toss a coin, or roll a die, it has no "memory" of what the results were last time you tossed/rolled and changing die/coins doesn't affect the results either.

Is the Sandbox wrong then? I've been trying Love, Sakura, Fireworks, Platinum. And all are coming across at the same target % no matter if I choose cave or island.

From what I remember, Gold and Gold Olympus are theorized to have the same chances in the cave or island. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Platinum and Silver also had the same chances.

"Wrong" seems a harsh word. The only way to get definite % for a particular dragon is to breed thousands of them to check. This is not something we can do for each and every dragon, so some approximations have to be made.

Heh. Good to know, I hadn't thought of it that way. So I'll just merrily go along mixing & matching (whichever one happens to first come to hand in the list) - and keep selling off the endless lavas!

Hello all! Long time lurker popping in with a question.
Cactus and Mine breeding - resulting in 30 hours??? No upgraded breeding island, keep spending my gems before I can get there
The only 30 hours I've been able to find are Pearl, Sapphire, and Topaz, and none of those have a metal element in them. Usually the gemstone dragons seem to only have 1 combination that works. I might speed it up later tonight, when my nests clear out. Looking for opinions on what could be going on

Am pretty sure you have a Blue Moon going there. Non-upgraded time for it would be 29h 31m 48s, which would show as 30 gems to finish it, but not a full 30 hours.
Glad you came out of the lurking shadows to join us.

Thank you! I completely forgot about that one - I managed (somehow lol) to get all the ones I wanted when it was first released. I've been concentrating on getting another Apocalypse, starting to get tired of the 20 hour Copper fails.

And thanks
Oh yeah, long fails are no fun. koala to you, hope you get that Apocalypse soon. Got my 2nd on the 43rd breeding using Magnetic + Lichen, but is the same ingredients as what you are using now.
