Hi Scott,

My son, who just turned six this past August, takes losing a little too hard still, too much so where it would be very difficult for him to really absorb any kind of lesson I could provide from something that frustrates him, especially where there's an emphasis on the value of money. He's the eldest sibling to my two year old daughter who, funnily enough, seems to really enjoy pushing his buttons as well. Maybe in a year I'll give it a whirl but I think it's just best to hold off for now, for him.

I hope to hear more stories about your son's adventures in DV, so I can live vicariously through them until the day arrives where my son is finally mature enough to be able to play and enjoy this game. Hopefully in a year! ;D

I started DV a month or so ago and find it easy to play. Not sure what it was like before. So far I have four islands. Island one has 2 large cold and 2 large water habitats. Island two has the colosseum, moon, sun, and seasonal habitats. Three has 2 large earth and 6 large fire habitats. And four has 2 large plant, 1 large and 1 small air, and 1 large lightning habitats. And all the islands have the appropriate boosts.

Keeping my islands along color themes. Blue (cold/water), Red/brown (earth/fire), Green (plant/air). And will move lighting to a fifth island when I can get it.

Edit: Only have lvl 10 dragons and I'm curious. I play on my Kindle Fire HD and I do not have light/dark dragons or any of that. When I thought I might be able to log in with my iphone I downloaded the game and it had the separate island and magic for light and dark dragons. Any reason the kindle edition doesn't have this?

I'm level 18 right now. And I refuse to spend any real money for anything so it is strictly by coins and gems earned in the game. So waiting for breeding can be a bit of a pain, but it works fine for me.

Welcome to the forum, mes2370. It's really friendly, and a gem mine of useful advice and informaton. Please feel free to ask any question, no matter how seemingly trivial; there are so many generous and kind people here who will help you out.

No doubt one of the mods will point you in the right direction for most things, but there is a very good thread about gem exchanges for android players, if you need fb friends for party hats and gems (pm me with your fb moniker and I'll send requests from both my parks).

You may need to go to Amazon store to upgrade your DV app, that's how I got the magic island on my kindle.

Your iphone game will be completely separate from your kindle game, as the platforms are not compatible. There's also another gem swap thread for IOS players.

I also did not spend any real money on my games. I did however use up some Amazon credit... and treated myself to the first upgrade for the light/dark habitats, as that was pence.

Thanks for the info. Updating it now. The number of dragons to breed keeps me crossing my fingers since I don't buy gems. But that's part of the charm.

Hi and welcome.
while it is great that you are able to play without spending real money, keep in mind that the developers need to eat too. Or they stop coming up with new stuff. So an occasional coin or two tossed in their direction is a nice idea. We tend to call those karma purchases here. A good value one at the moment is the magic upgrade if you haven't already gone past that point.

I've been playing since last December or when it became available for android devices. Gotten all the dragons that have become available since I started playing, with the exception of malachite. Fun game! I don't feel too bad about spending some money for gems or upgrades occasionally since I play this game more often than most of the other games I've actually purchased for my consoles.

Started off excited for the magic event; I'm impatient and want to see what the new dragons will look like though.

I started playing a little over a week ago, and I went from slightly confused to daunted to "in this for the long haul."

Confused because the whole "what's need for what" and space constraints wasn't immediately apparent (thank-you DV Wiki for helping with that).

Daunted because some of the dragons that sounded really cool (non-limited ones) were many levels away ... and still are. Some of the other parks out there are amazing, and represent a huge effort.

Then I figured - if I just stick to it long enough, I can do that too. The key word being long!

Honestly, I'm having fun, and that's all that matters.

(Shameless plug - any Android/Kindle players out there who need a friend...)

Through a really stupid mistake I lost my 18 month game, and now have to start all over again, so could I ask for friends PLEASE,
As all my friends that were with me have now gone too and as I didn't make a note of them I have no idea how to contact them.

Here's something that might be different from those who started playing when the game first came out.
Space management is a big issue for me right now. I'm in the low 30's level-wise with as many islands and habitats as available. The influx of so many light and dark dragons along with the specials have crowded my park and filled my hibernation cave. I'm thinking about buying some gems so I can expand it again. I feel that I need the room before a bring 'em back event and don't know that I'll have enough with regular play. I guess I can sell dragons; I have all of my silver shrines.

I played couple months untill august 2012, then, it was still simple, not too many special and rare dragons. I quit then, can't remember why, but came back to playing DV again 2 weeks ago, and sadly I couldn't get into my old park because I had forgotten the login info for that account. So I started a new park and seeing all those new dragons confused me a little bit, I missed so many dragons it seemed almost impossible to get them all.
And also with the new breeding rules I knew it was going to be a lot harder now.
But 2 days ago I contacted Apple support center and they looked up all the accounts with my name and it seemed that for the account I used on my gamecenter, I misspelled a letter and they told me which one and I was able to login to my old park again (24 rainbow/LY dragons).
So yeah i'm running 2 parks now, the old one with huge DC income and the new one, which is going to be more of a challenge

I hear you, Susie! Island space, dragon space (in habitats and HC), storage space… they are all tight.

I am at level 50 because I leveled up quickly (thanks to purchasing Kairos some levels after he was available, and kids who liked racing dragons). I just saved enough to purchase the 7th island. My hibernation cave holds 50 dragons and has been pretty full with dragons I wanted to display but couldn't, and some of those level 10s that I'd fed for the shrines. It's strangely hard to sell a level 10 Poison dragon when I know that it cost me around 10k food, and will only give me 5000 cash back! I've been juggling dragons in the HC for weeks. My storage tower only holds 5 items, and I have used it for habitats. That way each time I leveled and was able to have a new habitat, I could pull one out instantly.

The holiday discount on giant habitats was a huge help, though. I ended up spending over half of the gems I'd been saving up in case the Bring 'em Back event happens again. 16 new larger habitats made a disaster of my islands! They were already closely packed, and I had balanced which dragons were where so the habitats would max out about the same time. (I hate the idea of having one habitat filled to overflowing with DC and another identical one having room for more DC.) Buying those giant habitats all in one hour instead of one or two a week meant that I had to shuffle dragons quickly. I haven't yet recovered. The nice thing was that my HC went from 49 dragons to 25, though!

I haven't gotten my metal shrine to silver yet; I only have 32 metal dragons. Every limited dragon that comes along is new to me, and breeding for them significantly slowed down my breeding of basic hybrids. I still don't have an Iron Dragon (although now I have a bronze egg blocking up my nursery, so that's a nice fail).

Welcome! Guess that is the cure for those who have all the dragons and boredom has set in, just start a new park and start fresh with the new breeding rules. Good challenge.

I've been leveling up pretty well (I think) and finally got the light habitat and dragging after rejoining DV during Dark magic time. I've been struggling with breeding any of the special dragons though it's probably because I'm only at level 11 with many of my dragons. I did, however, just breed a poison an swamp that is currently incubating for 31 hours. I can only hope at a turquoise dragon. It'd be my first 'specialty' dragon.

Would y'all suggest leveling certain dragons faster than others? Or do you spread the love and level most of them at an even rate. I'm really trying to get sun and moon and keep failing.

Greetings all! I began my DragonVale journy about two days ago. I don't know how the simplicity of it was 2years ago; however I can tell you that its very straightforward for a complete and total nooob like myself! I don't find it overwhelming, I'm more like a little kid in a large world of dragons I know very little about but have a thirst for more knowledge about the multiple aspects of the game and I'm diving right in!!!
