Oh man just came to check in after visiting with lostgirl in the hospital and all heck broke loose. What the hay?! I'm never gonna catch up. Just reading this page made my head swim.
Don't forget to nab those bonus Twitter and FB gems from all the tutorial goals and Shrine rewards! You can get quite a bit of free gems that way. Mmmm tasty, tasty gems.
Do we know how much magic is needed for us to get the light/dark dragons. I am wondering how long this will take. If it goes really fast, we might not earn the rewards.
They haven't announced it yet, but it seems unlikely that they wouldn't give us a fair chance at it.
Especially if there is some sort of cap in place to prevent rich folks and hackers form powering through it.
If we can all only contribute X per day and they know they have Y number of then they can figure out the minimum number of days they want the event to last pretty easily...
Of course, it sounds like new players a year from now might miss out on the freebies...

Yup!
Plus the extra fb and twitter gems for the shrine goals too.
Loads of free gems with this update.
I wonder if you raise a shrine to silver and then to gold, do you get both of the rewards?
If you do, it is a real boon for players who haven't yet raised any of their shrines to Silver.
I'm still not sure exactly how this reward process works - it says on the BFS page that you get:
- 15 gems and 250K treats for a Silver shrine - 40 gems and 1m treats for a Gold shrine
I have these as rewards in my social screen for shrines I already have, but noticed that for Gold shrines, I did not also receive the Silver rewards. So I'm wondering if I'll get the full reward when I raise my Silver to Gold, seeing as the reward screen only lists 1m food and not the 40 gems.
If it is possible to get both, then for players that have not yet raised their shrines to Gold, you can collect a total of 1.25m food and 55 gems per shrine, or 10m food and 440 gems in total!! Not bad at all
EDIT: If you include 2 free gems for sharing the goals for silver and then again for gold, the total becomes 59 gems per shrine and 472 gems in total (for those who haven't got gold yet). If you already have all gold shrines, then it is still 336 free gems all up, not bad at all.
Levelling a dragon to Level 20 (from 15) just netted me about 400 magic!!
Sweet. I have enough food to do this another 19 times, so I might do about 2-3 dragons per day - that should easily get me my 3,000 each day combined with other things.
I don't expect this event will last more than 2 weeks, but could be as short as 1 week, so I'll aim to use up all my food by then.
For every bush you buy, you will earn 1 magic point. 12.5 DC = 1 MP
This is a very, very good find - very cheap and easy to get your max of 3,000 here.
Slightly time consuming, but would only cost 37,500 per day.
I think you could realistically earn about 1,000 in your daily travels anyway, so would only need it to top up to the 3,000 max.
This is looking like the best option I have seen so far, thanks for posting.
I've earned about 1900 so far in the 5 hours it's been available, but I've been on non stop, pretty much.
17 600 Magic required to get to the 2nd Rift Egg in both habitats. Will need to check what is required for the next level but if the double the 5600 that level 2 requires, that would make it 40 000 magic required all up for 3 Rift eggs a piece. Maxing out at 3000 a day is 2 weeks to get there.
The GCID used to show how many players played today/this week but I can't find that at the moment. A million players maxing out is 3 billion magic collected every day, so a requirement of 10 times that seems reasonable to get a bit of mileage out of it without it becoming too much of a grind. Especially as it will be split in two halves with the release of one of the dragons.
The question becomes, as these are two new dragons, will they be two more regular elements? Obviously they are opposites of each other, so once they are released are they available to make a bucket load of new hybrids?

Hmm, good point.
Maybe I'll just raise one dragon to Level 20 per day then....

I just did a little redecorating. Each time I bought the $25 bush I received 1 magic point. So you can pay 5 gems for 30 MP or $750 in gold coins. Seems like a bargain.
One other thing....
Love the extra habitats as now I can display all of the dragons. Oddly, when I bought the Giant Habitats they were ready to go immediately - no build time or gems required to speed them up. Bug?

Edit: Just noticed Buffy scooped me on using the bushes for MP. Interestingly, the bushes are no longer available unless you already have one.

Did anyone notice that the level cap has been raised? I checked my park about an hour ago with it still stuck on level 45, but when I just signed back in, my park jumped 4 levels? Is the excess XP rolling over to contribute for the next levels?

I read on the wiki that that had happened to a few people.
No such luck for myself unfortunately.
I'm not sure why it seems to selectively choose people - unless you did something extreme like level ~ 12 dragons to level 20 earlier this morning after the update but before they fixed the exp issue...

Very strange, indeed. All I did was collect my cash income. No feeding or breeding and I didn't receive any XP from the Colosseum at the time too.

I suspect the counter on the light/dark habitats is counting towards the next egg. I had 248/3014. (Or thereabouts). Then I bought the $0.99 magic+upgrade and it went to 248/5600 and I got an egg
Note to others. Earn your first egg the hard way as each egg looks like it will be more expensive than the last. Only buy the upgrade when you are going to crack. Sadly I bought both upgrades on both islands before I realized this.

I spent 99 cents on the light upgrade. Was planning to do the dark too, but then a thought occurred to me:
You can only buy the light and dark upgrades once, along with the 150 magic. After that, just the 150 is available without the upgrade added. The next upgrade for light costs 5600 magic. The next upgrade for dark (1st) costs 3199.
If I hold off and buy the upgrade for dark after I gain one upgrade on my own, I'll get 5600 magic instead of 3199 if the upgrade is still available. If I wait longer, after I've done a few upgrades, I'd gain even more. If that's the case, I should not have bought the light upgrade until I had done a few on my own for light!
I'm hoping they thought of this, and you can't buy it after you upgrade on your own...but has anyone leveled one themselves and checked if the purchase is still available?

The games been out for me for about 11 hours now and I've played for maybe 4-5 hours total.
If we exclude the 300 magic I purchased, I made exactly 2000 Magic today (422 Light, 1878 Dark).
I don't think I have the resources to do quite that good tomorrow, but time will tell.

For the record, getting the first upgrade the hard way requires 3199 Magic per habitat, so it may not be a doubling...

I vote bucket load of new hybrids based on the following:
"Players can purchase Light and Dark habitats, decorations, and dragons only when that element has been released AND if they are at the appropriate level."
They say "element" and Dark/Light don't really fit the Epic mold.
