Ok, here are my updated calculations:

180 per day (stopped getting any here) 20 visit friends 40 breeding 40 treats 40 collecting gold 40 spending gems

Those last few are rare, so you will have to really be hardcore to max each day, every day.

24 days (July10-Aug3) 12 weekend days (Fri-Sun) so double or an extra 140 per day those days.

Need 5500 to get all prizes. 1. If all 4 weekends are double, counting 250 bonus to start, and not counting gems, then can get (36 x 140) + 250 = 5290 2. If only last 3 weekends are double, then (33 x 140) + 250 = 4870

You can earn about 13 gems per day so 13 x 24 = 312 gems.

In scenario 1, 5290 + 312 = 5602, or more than enough without spending. In scenario 2, 4870 + 312 = 5182. So you would need to spend an additional 318 gems over the 24 days, 40 max per day.

Not sure how double weekends will impact gem spending, but those may be the days you want to leverage. That might reduce the hit to your gem bank.

This can definitely be done for FREE, assuming you have a few gems banked.

Not liking this at all so far. It seems like the worst of the two previous events combined.

At least you could complete the Dark/Light magic event without spending a dime.
At least getting magic eggs wasn't very time-consuming.

I bet someone looked at the Easter event and went like, yeah diminishing odds, pretty good, but that stuff needs to diminish exponentially because growing Dragon Snaps for 15 minutes is fun, right

Here is a tip for the Dragonvale Community: Keep Buying Plant Dragon Eggs (100 dragon cash) at the Nursery wait 15 seconds and sell the plant egg for 50 dragon cash return. Result should be +2 fireflies per plant egg until you tap out until the next 12 hour replenishing time. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

I am also not enjoying this event. I have found that every time one of these events starts, it makes me mad. BFS has listened and responded to a lot, but they still haven't told us if all prizes are attainable without spending money. If they told us up front that we would have to spend at least $5 or $10, than we could make our plans. Working hard, and then finding out at the end that you can't attain a prize without spending money is very maddening. I agree that if you are playing the game and can afford to, you should support BFS, but for a family with many accounts, $10+ each is a lot of money. I also think their timing is off. Summer is when lots of people take vacations and don't always have internet or the time to spend on the game; also, they spend a lot of their extra money on family fun and their vacation.
On another note, where we live away from city lights, in early summer, we love to take walks at night to watch the fireflies twinkling in the trees. A beautiful sight to behold. May the fireflies abound for us all.

After I got the Dawnbreak Edifice I also couldn't see the next progress bar, but later realised that the progress bar was on the Dawn egg pedestal. That bar was easy to miss, so perhaps you might want to look there?

I've got the Gloaming Stone too! If I'm not wrong, it could have come with the Dawnbreak Edifice; I only saw it in my gifts tab when I turned my first set of fireflies in.

The sequence of rewards we can earn certainly places the Dawn Dragon as a priority over the Dusk Dragon. I would have preferred to earn both edifices and egg pedestals before unlocking both dragons, but I suppose that's only because I'm relatively confident I will be completing this event, even if I have to shell out a bit of cash.

I'm wondering if the Dusk Dragon actually requires 1100 fireflies, as compared to 825 for the Dawn Dragon. Since the list of prizes currently states that we need 825 fireflies for the Celestial Habitat, I wonder if this might just be an error, and we'd actually need 825 fireflies for Dusk and 1100 for the habitat.

I have stopped my usual habit of growing Sarjin Peppers, saving my DC in the hope that BFS will release a new island so I can clear some obstacles!

It would be nice if we could keep the island after the event is over. Unfortunately, I think that the island will just disappear just as it happened after the magic event. Anyway, I am just loving this event. The sky is absolutely lovely like this. I intend to have the twilight tower no matter what. And the dragons appear to be so cool! I can't wait to get them.

Doesn't the Dawn egg pedestal cost 275 fireflies? But it looks like both egg pedestals have a 180-gem price tag when you look at them in the prize list, although they can't be found in the market. I wonder if this is a sign that the egg pedestals will be available in the market at a later date? This is a little confusing...

Thank you! What did you speed in your tests? That is, do breeding and hatching both give gem bonus? I wonder if speeding up other things, such as island summoning or habitat building, would also give gems that would contribute towards that maximum.

Last time around I saved clearing obstacles for the double magic days since I had a limited number to clear. I tested on our spare account, but will clear on mine during double days. Well, once the tenth island arrives. When I bought it, I didn't get any fireflies, by the way.

I bought the 10th island and speeder it up so I would have obstacles to clear. Noticed I got a bunch of fireflies. I'm assuming 40, since it cost 54 gems to speed up.

I'm having a mixed reaction to this event. I love the concept of dawn/dusk and the sky and prizes are lovely, but the second I started gathering fireflies I literally felt the anxiety rising up. I guess that must be the addictive element. Must plant more dragon snaps! Must visit friends-now! Spend gems, speed up; slow down - don't clear everything at once! Remember, it's supposed to be fun... no one is forcing you to play... my brain fairly unsuccessfully tries telling itself.
Wasn't it just the other day that I was obsessing over glittery little pixels and here they are again?

Hello. I follow the board, but haven't signed up. I just wanted to say that the fireflies can also be earned for using gems to speed things up with the dragon quests for Kairos. For any lower level players still trying to put kairos together. I have a second park on my phone and I sped up a few kairos quests and received 10 fireflies.

Ok, first day roundup. Assuming that I don't have any obstacles to clear, that's 180 possible + 250 tutorial - 275 for the Dawnbreak Edifice. That should leave me with 155 at the end of the day correct? Can anyone else confirm?

I just don't have time to partipate in this event. My wife and I are doing a lot of camping right now and we are often in areas without internet access. I have always played Dragonvale in a completionist mode and this pretty much puts an end to that. I appreciate the efforts of BFS to keep the game interesting, but the need for mandatory participation just dorsn't work for me. I'm still trying to decide if I'll keep playing and just ignore special events such as this one. I didn't pungle up the ten bucks for the island last time and I haven't missed it. Maybe just keep trying to get two of each dragon if thst remains possible without participating in the special events.
