Alright, second day recap: 155 (prev. day total) + 180 - 275 (Dawn Pedestal) = 60. Looks like it'll take at most 5 more days to get the Dawn Dragon. Bleh.
It needs some sort of internet connection, as the progress is stored in the cloud.
True. But the detailed answer depends on your device. If you have internet access via a phone tower as well as wifi then no. If you only get internet access via wifi (e.g. Some low end iPads) then yes.

Pretty cool graphical changes to the Firefly dragon.
New Breath
Hey. Can we collect those fireflies for bonus prizes?

Same thing here, except that I'm somewhat more willing to spend gems to speed things up. And if I buy, it will be towards the end.
The only thing I really don't like it not being able to easily see at a glance how many fireflies I've gathered that day by clearing my total first thing in the morning/last thing at night, and again, it not being crystal clear up front whether or not the final prize was going to cost money (and how much). But since the last event was like that too, meh, I can live with it.
Love love love the new sky! Got my Dawn pedestal this morning, but I suspect I've collected most of my daily ff quota in that process, as they're barely trickling in now.
And for those expecting a double weekend starting today--not if they follow the pattern set by the first two events. In both cases, the first weekend wasn't doubled. So I'm not holding my breath.
I love it adds a deal of interest whilst trying for last few dragons. Love the graphics and the video on Facebook is a great tempter to work on the game.
My own stress is a sudden thirst for power. Turning day into night and back again - I want that light switch!!! And will I make it?
But to bring myself to the reason I'm posting: I've been delaying the upgrades I found superficial, like the storage tower. I also always keep a maneuvering margin for new habitats, just in case. So when I went for my third upgraded Olympus habitat, I had to stash more decorations and expanded the tower. 40 ff!
So if you still have room to grow, an upgrade a day should also work towards the target (thank God I stashed gems).
OTOH, I didn't get anything (again!) for taking a dragon out of the Colosseum.
Just wondering, but has the game been laggy for anyone else since the new update? Specifically, it takes a little time for the DC/treat alert bubbles to appear and disappear?

Unfortunately, 40 gems a day, every day, for three weeks, isn't going to be a viable or even practical strategy for the majority of users. I'm at the highest I've ever been on gems...and that's still just over 600 (dropping fast). I really want that Tower too--way more than I wanted the Egg Island, which I ultimately skipped due to the minimum $10 price tag. I find that as badly as I do want that Tower, it's not worth $10+ to me either. At $5, I'd probably buy it, but we'll see how it all turns out.
*shrugs* DV's gotten at least $100 out of me in the time I've played, probably more. I do support the developers. But 3-4 events like this a year, at $10 each? That's drawing a line I'm not really willing to cross.
I'll have to enjoy the skies while they last, I guess, and hope I can collect enough!

This has been happening to me for quite some time. I think maybe since the 2.0 update but maybe sooner, I can't remember. I'm not sure if it's because my park is memory intensive or what, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it.

Upgrading the storage tower earns fireflies? Would upgrading the hibernation thing get me fireflies too?

It would be nice if we could keep the island after the event is over. Unfortunately, I think that the island will just disappear just as it happened after the magic event. Anyway, I am just loving this event. The sky is absolutely lovely like this. I intend to have the twilight tower no matter what. And the dragons appear to be so cool! I can't wait to get them.
I prefer the loading screen night sky though. I do want the twilight tower, but everything is relative...will see.

Anything you spend gems for will get you fireflies at a 1:1 basis. Up to 40 a day

Yeah, the in-game night sky is really more dawn/dusk than night, with the pink hues coming from the clouds. I'm aiming for the Twilight Tower too, but would prefer a darker night sky.

Finding some of the grinding (dragon cash and food) to be tedious, but rather happy I have quite a few habitat upgrades to giant ones to spend my gems on (was going to wait until until 1/2 price Thanksgiving discount).
I think it will come down to how many double firefly days we get. With none it would cost about $40 to make the difference, with a couple I would probably spend the $6 to cover the gap.
EDIT: on the wiki someone mentioned if your breeding islands are full with long term breeds, you can buy plant dragons in the market to hatch for your fireflies.

OTOH, we have more than 2 weeks left. Remember special discounts on special stuff DO appear in the interims. Wait till you're closer to a concrete figure.
