DragonVale’s mascot is always the perfect way to celebrate!
FORUM AGE
There’s no time like your 10th birthday to start showing your age. Now everyone can keep track of the Forum’s special day. At the bottom of the Home page in the Information & Statistics section, the Forum’s age now displays in years, months, and days. And a very special friend oversees each passing hour — the much beloved baby Dargon.
UPDATE
I flipped Dargon so he can watch the time and keep a closer eye on his upcoming release date (and the Forum’s birthday)
CHATTERBOX
At the bottom of each page, you’ll see a new feature — the Chatterbox. Chatterbox is a live, instant messaging chat room available to all members. Just login and type your message. There is a 256 character limit for each post.
To send your message, you can click the Send button or Return on your keyboard (so don’t use the Return key to start a new paragraph).
You can edit your post by tapping on it, and it’ll appear in the message box for editing.
If you want to post images, you’ll need to use BBCode.
The Chatterbox also accepts BBCode for all your formatting requirements.

I guess this is a request… does anyone know exactly how higher Dragon Levels help in breeding… in what way?
Hello, grandpakenny! This thread is for Forum updates and requests, not DV questions. But I’ll leave your post here as a request to add this information to the Help Desk, which I’ve been meaning to do for a while.
Each dragon level from 11 to 21 (elder) increases your chances of breeding rarer, harder to breed dragons, including limiteds. Initially, in 2013 when this was introduced, rarer dragons covered everything from rares to epics to gemstone dragons. But it appears as the game grew to a hundred dragons, most being rares and epics, this was changed, because increasing the chances of rares and epics would basically increase your chances of breeding every dragon, except the handful of permanent regular hybrids. So there would be no benefit. The breeding bonus now seems to apply to limiteds, and could also contain other rarer dragons.
I’ve tested this over the last year by breeding new limiteds in the Rift using dragons at level 16 in one park and dragons at level 20 in another. 95% of the time, the park with level 20s breeds the new limiteds before the park with level 16s, indicating that limiteds are on the menu. Incidentally, for the park with level 20 dragons, I don’t see an increase in general rare and epic dragons.
Years ago, players started to assume the dragon level bonus only applied to levels 11, 16, and elder, since the breeding bonus is only mentioned on the dragon profile card at these levels. However, in 2013, Backflip stated two dragons at level 20 greatly increases your chances of breeding rare dragons. In addition, Backflip has said several times, as early as 2015, that the bonus applies to each level.
I’ve tested this, but since my tests consisted of a couple hundred breeds over two types of dragons at four different levels, it’s not extensive enough. So I usually tell players to do what they’re comfortable with and track their results. If you’re interested in my results, from level 16 to 18, I saw a slight increase in rarer dragons. But it’s more obvious between level 16 and level 20. Therefore, it probably wouldn’t be worth levelling up your dragon from 16 to 17 for the breeding bonus, since you likely won’t see any difference. However, it appears to be worth it to level up from 16 to 20.
How much the dragon level breeding bonus increases your chances of rarer dragons is not known. Backflip and Deca never disclosed this information.
PS, there is a similar breeding bonus when using the Epic Breeding Island in the Vale.

Can I request an avatar of the adult Carnival dragon? Thank you!
Carnival has been added to the avatar list. I wasn’t sure if you preferred the baby or adult version, so I added both since they’re quite different.

PSA: ProBoards has posted an announcement regarding slow-loading, non-loading forums
Over the last couple days, you may have had difficulties loading the DV Community Forum, opening threads, or any other activities on the site. ProBoards released this statement today
Unfortunately we have recently been experiencing DDoS attacks in an attempt to force us to take down a legitimate forum. We won't be capitulating to any sort of terrorist demands on how we run our service. I trust you all can understand and concur as you would not want us to comply if someone demanded we take down your forum.
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and continue to work to mitigate the issue.

We have some new Forum emojis! When you compose a post, the toolbar at the top of the message box has a smiley face on the far right. If you click it, the emoji menu opens. All 10 DragonVale elements have been added. These emojis are being used in the revised Encyclopedia Dracontine.
Please feel free to use the element emojis in your posts. Click on the emoji (smile) icon on the message toolbar while you’re composing, and the emoji drop-down menu will show. Click on the emoji to insert it in your post.
Also, if you type
Plant1 Fire1 Earth1 Cold1 Lightning1 Water1 Air1 Metal1 Light1 Dark1 the element emojis will show instead of the text.
The element emojis are also copy/paste friendly. If you paste them in a document the text will show, and if you paste them in a post on the Forum, the emoji will show.
If you do not see the emojis, you may have the Smiles feature disabled in your profile. To turn it on, go to Profile > Edit Profile button > Settings > Smiles Default
REVISED ENCYCLOPAEDIA DRACONTINE
The Encyclopedia Dracontine (ED) is now a permanent part of the Help Desk. From the Home page, on the DV Help Desk category, click on How to Breed Those Dragons. The first thread is the ED. The ED now only contains all the breeding hints in the game. The links and snippets of info that were previously on it have been moved to their appropriate boards on the Help Desk. This should help players find answers more efficiently and will allow us to add more complete information.
On the ED, the new element emojis represent the hidden elements that the dragon contributes when they’re used in a breeding combo. Formerly, letters and symbols represented the elements (PFECLMlD), but it was too confusing and players would ask for clarification. Hopefully, the element emojis will be more helpful. You do not need to be a member to see the emojis. Guests should be able to view them as well.
Many thanks to MinyaZ for updating and inserting the element emojis!
FORUM FONT SIZE
To help accommodate the new emojis, I was looking at raising the font size on the Forum. With the font at 10pt, images were too small and blurry. Coincidentally, Theresa asked if the font could be larger — perfect timing!
Not all aspects of the Forum benefited from a larger font. The Home page looked really awkward and messy. So I added some code to allow the font on posts only to be slightly larger. The font is now at 13px, which is about 11pts. While composing a message, the text in the message box is also larger, about 11pts in the Preview tab and 12pts in the BBCode tab. Hopefully, this will help those who found the text too small.
Many thanks to theresa for the valuable insight and suggestion!

We have some wonderful news to share! The Forum has a new staff position called DV Consultant. It’s a little different from the Global Moderator position, as it focuses on behind the scenes work. Two incredible people have agreed to take on the Consultant role: Bloodstone and Drow! Both Bloodstone and Drow were staff members in the past and have returned to help the Forum, the players, and DragonVale.
If you have any DV Sandbox questions or concerns, Drow has started the DV Sandbox thread!

Twin Weekend Co-op Requests was such a hit, it has been transformed into the Cooperative Requests thread so it can assist players in breeding and cloning dragons and twins all year round!
Thank you samiam for coming up with the brilliant idea and developing and overseeing the thread. Many blue-hearted hearts to you! 💙❤️💙

This is so great you guys are continuing to do this! Twin Weekend was a lot of fun!
OboeKade Just had to post an acknowledgement of your Geographic Guide. That is absolutely wonderful! I also find plate tectonics interesting topic although it's been some decades *cough* quite some time since I've done anything with it. Can't wait for some time to read through the descriptions and cross reference to your map.
It is fabulous to see the diversity of people we have in this forum!
👻 With Halloween approaching, we have some new updates 👻
The Spoiler Contest
You have probably already noticed we have a brand new contest! The Spoiler Contest brings a new Spoiler Lounge and threads that can be accessed by joining the Spoiler Group. For more information, please see this thread.
Mini profile has been fixed
There was an issue with the Spoiler Group showing on the mini profile. It’s been corrected, and your post count rank and eggs have been restored.
Ghosts and bats are haunting every page
After today, I’ll limit the haunting to the Home page only, so it doesn’t get too annoying. When there’s a new release, and also around Halloween, I’ll let the bats and ghosts loose everywhere.
Switching themes
The Forum usually has a dark theme for Halloween. The background is dark on all pages and posts, and the text is white. Dark themes are very popular, and many people favour them. However, if anyone finds it difficult to read, or prefers a lighter background with dark text, you can always switch themes.
I added this feature last year. Here is a repost for the instructions to change the theme.
In the lower left corner of the screen, there’s an icon with a 'T'. If you click it, the Change Theme pop-up will display. Select the theme from the drop down menu
• 10 Years = 10th Anniversary theme (light theme) • Current Event = current event theme • (After this event concludes, the Candy Bash theme will be added so there will be a dark theme to select)
Click Confirm. At the next pop-up click OK. And the theme will change.
If you change the theme, it will be saved, so every time you login, the theme you selected will display.
Please remember to switch back to Current Event after Candy Bash concludes, so when the next event and Forum theme is released, you can see it. Otherwise, your selected theme will continue to show.
You must be a Forum member and logged in to use this feature. Guests do not have profiles so their settings are not stored.
NOTE: For tablet and phone users, sometimes the corners of the screen are less sensitive / responsive, so you may need to tap the 'T' icon several times before it takes.
I’ve included all the code from the current theme to the other available themes, so the spoiler button, larger text size, mini profile update, and other features should display.
If anyone experiences a problem with the themes, please message me. Thank you!
