The Rift is an interesting sideshow to the main Vale event, but the implementation is seriously lacking. Compared to the Vale there are not enough pathways for players to acquire traited dragons and the Rift monetary mechanism has been broken since the beginning. Income is fixed while the expense for everything is highly inflationary. The Rift breeding cave is a nice feature but ultimately mostly useless for acquiring the limited dragons because of the horrendous breeding odds and the fixed supply of etherium. If you take time off from the game and fall behind in traited Rift breeding you are lost. There is no way to catch up in the Rift. Maybe this is the way Deca wants the Rift to work. But until there is a serious Rift redesign, count me out. The Vale is enough.
I don’t think I could play now without Rift; I depend on it for at least half of the new dragons for each event. As soon as the possible pairs are posted I make sure I have traited versions, or I start breeding for them. I’ll take it thru 5,000 every day. I have a lot of traited dragons but definitely not all so it’s a challenge, but so much easier than trying to get everything in the regular park. It’s especially hard now with all the really long fails. Long live the Rift!
It has been a very long time since I bred an event dragon in the Rift. I don’t have the parents or grandparents for most event Rift breeding. All of my event dragons are the result of breeding and cloning in the Vale or outright purchase for EC. Rift breeding is only of use to me for clearing the donation boards. Otherwise it’s useless.
hmm…. I like the rift, especially for breeding for dragons with loooong fails. My only real complaint with the rift are the mystery eggs. The price does a huge jump with each purchase and it’s rare that I get a dragon that I don’t already have. BTW, if we use a wish for a dragon, I think we should be able to choose whether we want park, twin or rifted version. It is a wish, after all. Even if you already have park and twin versions, you don’t get the option of a rifted version.
I find twins impossible to acquire. Why can’t breeding a matching pair have a chance at getting a twin…outside of the coop.
Pirates was a really frustrating event. Djini and Alure are both extremely difficult to get in the rift (or at all) and both have long fail times. And BOTH were required for Limited dragons. That combined with the bingo cards made breeding a nightmare. A number of times I got more event currency from selling a dragon than I would for “donating” it to the bingo card.
We’re getting seven new dragons with each event. Successful breeding is dependent on being able to feed up the dragons and with so many events back to back, it’s hard to build up resources to get them all fed. Or breed with friends in the coop to fill in dragons missed. At this point I’m only feeding up dragons as I need them for breeding.

Valeodon swam away from the competition and left everyone behind in his gigantic splash. Meanwhile, there was a lot of scrambling in the sea, but Spinky puffed up and edged out the sun snake Kann in the middle of the night.
If anyone would like to receive last year’s Jolly Roger Dragon award instead, please message me. Thank you!
And if you rated all the dragons for two consecutive events, you received the Lucky Koala!
The Pirates in Paradise II thread will be locked shortly, as this ship has sailed and camping is now in the stars.
