Ok this is getting insane DECA. 4 weeks in trying to get the djinni dragon rifted up to 15k etherium and nothing. 4 WEEKS!!! Burned through over 3k gems in speed breeding for the curse AND the corsair (I believe I finally bred Corsair on the EBI) and now I can’t get the Manomano dragon rifted?!?! I’ve spent the entire time the crawler dragon has been available trying IN BOTH PARKS to get the Manomano dragon. This is absolute fudge!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬 I’ve never had such an issue trying to get one, just one rifted dragon. I think I would have an easier trying to get the chromocorn dragon naturally without using one as a parent.
I nearly threw my tablet on the ground and ran it over with my car in sheer frustration!!!!
edit: I’m now using two double rainbow dragons trying to get Manomano
I’m having the same problem getting a traited Tidal which has a locked breeding combo of Quake+Abyss. Setting the Rift Element of the Day to one of the four elements involved in the breeding combo hasn’t helped either. I have gotten every one of the possible fails, many of the fails multiple times. By comparison, breeding dJinni is much, much harder given the far greater number of potential fails.
I have seen enough of Rift breeding to believe there is a Kann in the Rift woodpile that hasn’t been found yet, but proving anything is next to impossible beyond anecdotal evidence. Using the Runic Caves when they are available is a possibility but less than ideal because you have to burn three claims to get to a traited dragon. It would be really nice if some or all of the RBC claims were awarded based on the variants that are already in the park. If you already have normal and twin versions of a dragon, the first dragon offered should be traited.
There is a splash screen message that says something to the effect that it is possible to breed every dragon with the right combination and enough patience. I no longer believe this is true because of the large number of dragons in the game and the difficulty of breeding most of the recent releases. Fortunately there are multiple pathways to getting most of the dragons, but they all involve an element of luck. And luck is a fickle friend. My two doubloons.

i share your pain. is it just bad luck? i have been playing this game for many years and have never experienced such overwhelming difficulty time after time after time in all breeding areas, for the past several events. the rift used to be easiest for me but no longer, for a year or so now.
i have reached out to deca but just receive a standard reply, about how it’s luck.
i don’t keep track of my fails because i try not to dwell on the frustration. (this game used to yield just pleasant emotions.) but i still don’t have traited misfortune or tidal after weeks and weeks of trying.
somehow i felt better after reading your experiences 🤔. misery loves company?🫠

I hope the only cause of the increasingly difficult breeding is the statistical math involved in adding new dragons to the game. Every additional dragon either increases the chance of elemental breeding failures by adding another dragon to the list of possible failures or, in the case of locked breeding combos, increases the difficulty because of the need to already have both parents. Deca is adding seven or eight new dragons in every event and, in this sense, DV is a victim of its own success. Rift breeding also adds the possibility of getting a normal version instead of traited, but this might or might not work to your advantage.
My suspicion about a problem with breeding a traited Tidal dragon is rooted in the breeding statistics listed in the Compendium. There are 34 possible Rift outcomes from breeding Quake+Abyss. In the Compendium, Tidal comes in at number 29 with a 2 percent chance of success. Out of the many dozens of attempts since the beginning of this event I have gotten at least one breeding miss (and usually many more) of every dragon on that list except Tidal and two Rift exclusives. I have gotten at least one of every dragon below Tidal on the list that has a lower breeding percentage. What is wrong with this picture? Is it just bad luck? Or is something else going on here? Any plausible explanations out there?

Not sure if I’m misunderstanding you here, but this is how the Runic Breeding Caves work. If you own a regular and twin version of the dragon, when you claim the dragon, it will be a traited-twin. You don’t need to claim a regular and twin again.
Also, regarding your first paragraph, the Rift Alignment has no affect on the breeding results. All it does is add the Alignment trait to the possible trait outcomes. Traits are not elements, so they have no impact on breeding.

I do not ever recall receiving a traited dragon from a RBC, though it is certainly possible I have forgotten about it. The last time the RBCs were in the game I used them to add to my pedestal collection, but had an annoying mishap. I do not like the twin version of the pedestals and attempted to replace one in my collection using a RBC claim. I sold the twin pedestal in my park before making the RBC claim, expecting a normal egg. This is how it works in the main DV marketplace. But the RBC gave me another twin that I did not want. And now it occurs to me that the RBCs don’t let me choose a dragon or a pedestal in the same manner as the marketplace and I had a normal version of the dragon in my park, so that’s the explanation! Duh! And with the traits on Quake and Abyss I was just trying to cover every possible base because the Tidal breeding in the Rift has been so fruitless.
Obstinate determination triumphs yet again!! I finally got a Tidal dragon in the Rift after four weeks of trying - untraited, of course. Time to move on to something else - like cleaning up the disorganized mess that is my Rift.
Wonderful…….finally saw the Manomano dragon in the rift breeding cave, but it was not rifted. No etherium left, no time left…..I’m done
Sorry to hear about all the frustrations you’ve been going through ❤️. I never acquired a traited Djinni in my secondary park. I did breed two untraited Dijinni dragons, which was totally unhelpful. I selected the twin Djinni for the final daily reward egg gift, then when the RBCs roll back around, I’ll claim the traited-twin. The dream will alway be to add or purchase a trait at the Rift Breeding Cave when an undesirable untraited dragon is unfortunately bred.

It is confusing. The RBCs follow the same pattern as the mystery eggs.
• If you don’t own the dragon = regular • If you own a regular version = twin • If you own a twin = traited-twin • As long as you own a twin, you’ll only receive a traited-twin
The standard Market and event market only lets you purchase regular versions of dragons and pedestals. Twins and traited dragons need to be bred or acquired through mystery eggs or RBC claims, so they’re a little more difficult to collect.

Your Tidal woes sound like bad RNG. Tidal isn’t the easiest dragon to breed, but I have been able to breed it in the Rift during this event (and now I see you have too!). I do not believe its breeding percentages have changed since Backflip released it 2015. And Deca has not altered its percentages since taking over DV in 2020.
The only thing players can do to improve their chances is to level up their Rift parent dragons as much as they can. In my main park, I only breed with level 20 dragons.
As I said earlier, with the exception of a handful of golden hybrids, all of Deca’s dragons are limiteds, so they’re not adding to the breeding fails. Limiteds need to be available / breedable, which pretty much only occurs during their event or Dragons Week. None of the autumn, winter, or spring event dragons are going to be breeding fails during the summer.
Continually creating dragons with locked breeding combos does result in dragons that need parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. But Deca is aware of this. While they probably don’t want all their new dragons to have a long lineage, it is likely by design that they want some, so they’re more challenging to breed. We’ve talked about this issue with Deca a lot.
New players will need to focus on the older dragons. There’s no way a new player can acquire all the dragons in the event market. Backflip set up the events like this, and it seems to work. It typically takes years of dedicated playing to collect all the dragons. As the player progresses, they’ll be able to acquire dragons that they missed last year, and eventually they’ll catch up. But yeah, DV is a long-term commitment and a wild test in patience.

• Claim all daily event rewards, including the final egg at the Captain’s Quarters
(Remember, if you’re claiming a traited-twin dragon, you can select the trait you want: tap the '?' on the dragon’s listing in the Choose a Dragon menu. The dragon’s profile card will show and you can see what the trait looks like on the dragon. If you don’t like the trait, close Choose a Dragon and the Captain’s Quarters, reopen, and you’ll be offered a different trait. Repeat until the desired trait appears.)
PSA: Frond dragon and pedestal
When selling Frond or its pedestal, you will no longer receive 1,500,000 DC. Instead, it sells for 400,000 DC.
Frond is one of the items listed on the Best Doubloons to DC Exchange on the first page of this thread. With the new selling price, its exchange rate is now 1:2162 instead of 1:8108. So it’s still better than letting the game automatically convert your Doubloons to DC after the event ends, but not nearly as good.
The Game Reps have discussed Frond’s selling price with Deca. Frond will be restored, but this may not occur until Wednesday or Thursday.
The Treasure habitats still have the best exchange rate, but if you don’t have enough to purchase the habitats, Frond’s pedestal is the next best. Just hold on to the pedestals and sell them later in the week.
Many thanks to Calli and the DV Group on FB for discovering the changes to Frond’s selling price.

It’s a fabulous game that I have enjoyed for many years. But at this point I have to be content with one of every dragon. I completely missed the boat in the Rift. Four weeks of trying for a traited Tidal with no success and now there are another eight new dragons from this event alone. It is not possible to catch up in the Rift. I don’t want to think about it any more.

Thanks adlerist. I'm having a last minute push for a traited Ahoy. I've been trying for one all week and would love to breed one, but can claim one as my final egg if I can't. It sounds like everyone's Rifts are broken and could do with some maintenance. 😊
Excellent tip about buying Frond pedestals and holding them for a few days after the event until their price has been restored. 😉

Apologies for the confusion, I wasn’t referring to you when I mentioned new players. I know you’re not new to the game.
Acquiring all the dragons traited is very difficult because Deca rarely releases dragons outside of their event. Deca really has to step up Dragons Weeks, organise it better, increase the number of released dragons, and hold it more frequently. Right now, completing a traited dragon collection is dependent on mystery eggs and the RBCs.
I finally acquired all the traited dragons during the last event with the RBCs. It took years, after having all the regular and twin versions. To give you some idea of the challenge, it’s easier to collect all the twins than all the dragons traited.

Anyone else having trouble getting the manomano dragon rifted? I’m using dark water and cold and like the djinni dragon, I can’t get it
I used aperture and void. Took a couple days but got a traited
Rift breeding has become extremely frustrating. I have three parks on two devices and although I generally have success quite quickly on one park, the other two struggle. One in particular has absolutely no success and just throws the same failure up time and time again, or cycles through the same three failures again and again. This event I have given up on breeding Alure in two parks and Manomano in my least successful park. I tried Aperture and Ruin then Aperture and Void and nothing. I hardly ever have success in the breeding caves other than the Coop (eternal thanks to Adlerist and Amos). I have said before, the game was much better when there was longer between events and we could spend time breeding returning dragons. As it is, returning dragons don’t even get a look in, because I am focussed on event dragons, and returning dragons don’t seem to include dragons from recent past events (say from the previous year or two).
I reluctantly have decided to give DragonVale Events a break, because I am tired of trying to breed the grandparents of event dragons in the Rift in order breed the current event dragons. I realise this will probably exacerbate the problem, if I return to playing events, but so be it. I miss the old DragonVale.

I reluctantly have decided to give DragonVale Events a break, because I am tired of trying to breed the grandparents of event dragons in the Rift in order breed the current event dragons. I realise this will probably exacerbate the problem, if I return to playing events, but so be it. I miss the old DragonVale.
The Rift is an interesting sideshow to the main Vale event, but the implementation is seriously lacking. Compared to the Vale there are not enough pathways for players to acquire traited dragons and the Rift monetary mechanism has been broken since the beginning. Income is fixed while the expense for everything is highly inflationary. The Rift breeding cave is a nice feature but ultimately mostly useless for acquiring the limited dragons because of the horrendous breeding odds and the fixed supply of etherium. If you take time off from the game and fall behind in traited Rift breeding you are lost. There is no way to catch up in the Rift. Maybe this is the way Deca wants the Rift to work. But until there is a serious Rift redesign, count me out. The Vale is enough.
I don’t think I could play now without Rift; I depend on it for at least half of the new dragons for each event. As soon as the possible pairs are posted I make sure I have traited versions, or I start breeding for them. I’ll take it thru 5,000 every day. I have a lot of traited dragons but definitely not all so it’s a challenge, but so much easier than trying to get everything in the regular park. It’s especially hard now with all the really long fails. Long live the Rift!
