ASK FOR AN AVATAR
Under the Profile button on the navigation bar, you can change your avatar. Profile > Edit Profile button > Avatar tab.
If you select Use a Forum Avatar and click on Pick One, a list of Forum avatars will display. Scroll down the list, and if the dragon you would like is not showing, please request the dragon on this thread and it will be uploaded.
All images will be pulled from DV Wiki, so check wiki first to ensure the picture is acceptable.
If you have a preference for the baby, juvenile, or adult, or if the dragon has several forms (day/night, enhancements), please state the version you would like to have added. Otherwise, the image will be selected for you.
No personal pictures, please. You can upload personal images by selecting Use Only the Uploaded/Linked.

Thank you for creating this thread! I asked if a similar one for small questions that don't require a whole post could be added to the subreddit, but it wasn't possible (mostly due to the two sticky post limit). It'll be really useful!

This thread is dedicated to little questions (as well as asking for avatars) so I wouldn't feel unsure whether I can post questions here. Plus, this thread means that the updates thread can just be used for updates and doesn't get questions about avatars added to it.

It's not really used any more because most posts end up in the event threads, but the general rule was - if it's about DV, pop it in that thread, and if it wasn't, chuck it into chatting with friends. It was never a place solely for updates or any specific thing

The problem with the old Tips thread is it covered too much. At one point, it was a thread for tips, strategies, DV updates, Forum updates, help, bugs, fixes, Expansion Extravaganza, Dragon’s Week, Deca Announcements, mini-events, new releases, players’ achievement, Dragon Draw, and miscellaneous.
The Forum is unique from other DV communities and social sites, in that we don’t need to have everything on one sub like Reddit or one channel like Discord. We can organise information and have threads dedicated to each topic so important posts and the latest news doesn’t get lost in a flood of posts. It makes it easier for players to find what they need. With the Tips thread, we were not using the Forum’s strengths to our advantage. Over the last couple years, we have steadily been working on that. There are now dedicated threads for Bugs and Glitches, Forum Updates, Deca Announcements, Dragon Draw, and Expansion Extravaganza / Dragon’s Week / DV Achievements. Imagine if all those posts were on the DV Tips thread. That was the problem — the thread was far too all-encompassing.
We have been encouraging members to navigate the Forum by using the boards on the Home page instead of New Posts. Each board only has a handful of threads, so it’s very easy to find the info you need quickly when there’s a lot of active threads.
The other problem with the DV Tips thread is what MetaphoricalRobin pointed out. Nobody understood its purpose, so players rarely posted on it over the last several years. We have been doing a lot of outreach and have a steady flow of new members, so the threads need to be self-explanatory.
When samiam proposed the idea of DV General to the Forum’s staff, no-one objected and a need for the thread was justified. But I most certainly understand your confusion with the older thread. I will lock and move that thread to the Library. Thank you for the suggestion and feedback. Many cheers!

The memories you have are important, and they are still alive and part of the Forum. That’s the main reason why threads are moved to the Library and not deleted.
Unfortunately, the Tips thread covered too much ground, so when its topics were dispersed into independent threads, there wasn’t much left to it. The Forum’s active threads need to serve a general purpose. If they’re not regularly used, then they need to be connected to a feature of the forum or the game, like Dragon Draw or the Rift.
In the past, we have replaced threads with newer versions because the original was performing poorly and was no longer effective. The old Co-op Cave and Twins thread only had 49 posts in its last 12 months, and half of those posts were by Forum admins and mods desperately trying to keep the thread alive. It’s hard to believe that Forum members didn’t need any help breeding dragons or twins at the co-op for an entire year. So it was clear the thread was failing.
Co-op Cave and Twins was replaced by Cooperative Requests. And the thread has thrived with a new concept for tracking and removing expired requests. It has received 484 posts since its inception 7.5 months ago, and it’s not all staff posts.
So far, General DragonVale has had more activity in the last four days than DragonVale Tips had in the last seven months. I don’t expect this thread to always have new posts, but at least there’s a clear place where players can ask random DV questions and queries about how to use the Forum.
I know change can sometimes feel like it’s leaving the past behind in forgotten memories. That’s not the intent here. We’re trying to keep the Forum moving forward and expanding, so it’s always relevant and welcoming to new DV players. At the same time, we are retaining its history by celebrating its anniversary and maintaining all the former threads. It’s not so much that the Forum has changed, rather it has developed and evolved from its original foundation.

That's awesome, are these the Light/Dark reward habitats that go in the main park, or in the Rift? --- I have a few unrelated questions:
1. I bred a Jet dragon last year. In looking through my dragonarium to fill out the Compedium's new checklist feature, I noticed I only have 1, which jives. What doesn't jive is it's a twin. I don't understand how this could be. I'm fairly sure I bred this. I suppose it's possible it was my gift from one of the early daily egg rewards. That could answer that.... but it gets weirder still. Why would I be gifted a twin when I don't have the regular one? I only have one, it's a twin. I know for darn sure I didn't sell my original, and sidenote, I didn't even know you could get twin gemstone dragons- but I keep all duplicate gem dragons so I can collect more gems.
2. Some of my dragons have the rift symbol with the trait shaded in, but when I click on the dragon to see how many I have, none of them are rift-traited. This is the case with both my Reindeer and my Arctic dragons. Both have the rift symbol shaded in as if I have at least one traited dragon of each. But both have no rift-traited dragons. I even checked the rift hibernation cave in case the dragonarium couldn't talk to it, but there weren't any there either. What's going on? I'll try to get a photo of what I'm talking about.

They're habitats that are stored in the main park and store DC. They may well be available in the next event, which is why I was asking about them.
1. You may have bred it in Co-Op. Although you can't clone them, you can use their combos in Co-Op. If you got it from its combo in the Co-Op cave then it could have been a twin. If not I'm not sure. Either a bug or you got it from an EoM/a friend, sold the normal variant and forgot you did. 2. That symbol shows it's possible to get that dragon with traits. (You'll notice the legendaries/mythicals, normal primaries and ghostlies don't have it.) When you've bred some of them in the Rift (even if you don't keep the dragon), the circle around it will become gold in segments. Once you've unlocked every trait for that dragon, the circle will become fully gold (I believe the Rift icon becomes gold too). Rift-exclusives automatically get the golden icon once you've bred it, since they can only have trait. All other dragons that can have traits can have all 10 different traits, so you'd need to unlock all 10 to get the golden icon. But even if you have none, the grey icon will still be there in the Dragonarium.

Hetchy, it looks like you might have sold some dragons. You’re correct, you only have the twin Jet dragon. You either had a regular version, received the twin from a mystery egg, and sold the regular version, or you bred a twin with a friend in the co-op (and never had a regular version). You didn’t receive the twin Jet from a daily rewards mystery egg, because you don’t have all the Gemstone dragons.
For Reindeer, it looks like you bred the dragon in the Rift with a plant trait, then sold it. Arctic, you bred at least twice in the Rift, and unlocked the earth and dark traits. But the dragons were sold.
It is easy to accidentally sell a dragon when you’re breeding in the Rift because with no breeding / incubation time, you usually breed one dragon after another very quickly and automatically hit the sell button.

@metaphoricalrobin and adlerist - That makes so much sense, thank you! I’m now not scratching my head so much. I think I do recall possibly using the co-op cave to breed Jet, and that makes the most sense.
I guess I sold some dragons in the rift without thinking much. I appreciate beyond measure your help in solving these mysteries!
I will be much more careful in the rift now. Interesting to know that if you breed and sell a rift dragon you can still unlock the trait for it. I like that! It probably doesn’t work that way if you release them, right?
