Hope i am in the right place to ask ... it said General and i see the word questions so fingers crossed here goes:
Live & Learn Department: i have run into something i did not know and do not understand. Can someone please explain why breeding for a second QLY is now lowered from 3% to 1% just because i got one? Is there a list anywhere of other dragons like this?
Since mine came without a greatly desired trait i think it would be much more fair to now give me 6% to try for a second one!
You may remember the Age of the Aurora Awfuness. Aurora has a 4% breeding percentage, so every time it was available, players bred Aurora constantly and were forever stuck behind its 54-hour fail or wasted Rift breeds. Over the years, there were many complaints and memes created on Reddit with players fed up with Aurora. I asked Deca to change Aurora’s percentage, along with Enfis, Party, and Dargon, so the second percentage was lower like the other rainbow dragons (and Dargon’s percentage is like Motley's — btw, Motley and Dargon have three percentages!). Deca thankfully did this, and the Aurora frustration and memes instantly disappeared.
Believe me, you do not want the Quad Leap Year or any rainbow dragon to have a 3% chance every time you attempt to breed dragons, much less a 6% chance 😬
Sometimes, the second percentage isn’t due to an easy breeding combo, like when Deca changed the four horsemen dragons. I asked them to raise their breeding percentages, and they did this, but unfortunately, they added the second percentage, so many players sold their regular and twin versions to get the traited version in the Rift. I did that with my alt park. It's kinda painful, but it was the fastest and easiest way to obtain the dragons with a trait.
If you want to know all the breeding percentages and which dragons have a second percentage, please check the DV Compendium. When the breeding percentage has another percentage in parentheses, the number in the parentheses is the second (owned) percentage.
Humm, i grumble all the time about long fails in co-op but never thought about those very dragons and what they could cause if they were easy to breed! i think i may have known that once but have since forgotten. This now makes sense. It also explains a couple of other things as well. Thank you for your much appreciated answer!
Is it capped at a certain amount each day, like event currency being capped at 500 EC, or is it a certain number of collections from habitats, like 20 collections. The reason I ask is for order of collections from habitats.
If it is capped, it doesn’t matter that treasure habitats give 20 (to me since I have over 200 habitats and visit my park several times a day, treasure habitats just help me reach the cap faster). If it is the first collections than treasure habitats make a huge difference because you can get more AE.
Has anyone ever tested this? Or do people “in the know” have any insight on this?

I have been collecting first from treasure habitats and building up number of treasure habitats for about 3 months now. My sense is that I am now collecting more abundant essence each day, not only because I'm collecting 20 essence from treasure habitats but particularly because I'm now collecting more essence (e.g. 350 plus essence on some days)from the two chests. Collecting more essence from the two chests could also though be because I am now always waiting until I have definitely collected all essence from habitats before I click on the chests. Unfortunately I haven't been keeping a record of daily essence figures. Thanks for asking the question lisgie. Perhaps someone else has this fully worked out already? But if not, maybe a few DVers could keep daily essence stats for a while, I'd be happy to record mine.

The Abundant Essence cap from habitat collection is based on the number of habitats, not the amount of AE. The habitat cap is 25. If the collection is only from Treasure Habitats, the amount earned is 500 AE. But you’ll need quite a few Treasure Habitats to earn 500 EC because not every habitat pays out, and as you get closer to 25, they become more and more infrequent. I have 55 Treasure Habitats and average 440 AE per day. Getting the last 3-4 habitats to produce AE would require another 40-50 Treasure Habitats. If I don't receive a lot of AE from the Treasure Habitats, I'll deploy Kairos and collect from them again.

The Abundant Essence from the free chest and the chest after watching an advert is separate from the AE through habitat collection. You can open the chests, and you’ll still be able to collect AE from 25 habitats.
The amount of AE from the chest is wildly diverse. Anywhere from a measly, meaningless, single gem to 275 AE. From my experience, the reward is weighted. The higher amounts of AE are quite scarce.

This might just be superstition, but I seem to get more AE from watching videos if I do it farther from reset than if I do it first thing.

I don’t think the time of day makes a difference. But in the same way, some players feel that breeding in the Rift has better results much later after the daily reset. It’s hard to remove ourselves from superstition when there’s luck involved.

Appreciate it! I'll soon have a short list of dragons that could feasibly be made permanent without destroying DECA's revenue or ruining the fun for players both old and new.
You don't have to worry about that. Deca would never make changes that would ruin the revenue or game for others, nor would the reps stand by and let them do that. 😄
IDK how to move this because it would probably fit better in general and I'm not sure I'm even able to do that since I'm not a mod BUT I wanted to update anyone who saw me mention this before and let y'all know I crafted an algorithm that will rate a dragon on how good of a candidate it is to become permanent. I think the highest actual score a dragon could get is 18 17 while the lowest is -13... it's a weird scale. While I think the bottom of the scale is capped at -13, the top could technically go as high as it wanted, but don't worry it is limited by the scope of the game.
I tested it with the few past dragons who've made the switch and the results were: Misfortune got a score of 11 10 Nightbloom got a score of 9 8 Apocalypse got a score of 5 4 Sandscale got a score of 1 Abraxas got a score of 0 Yolkwing got a score of -3 (blame the breeding combo, the algorithm immediately deducts 5 points for dragons with "Any" type breeding hints)
I feel like it passed the test, the non-rift dragons got scores that make sense to me for an eligible dragon. I'm excited for the results, I'm also writing what was going to be notes but turned into basically a Dragonvale research paper, so I'll post that too when I'm done for anyone interested.
This is what happens when you're fresh out of college with no job... x_x
* The strikethroughs are because originally I gave a dragon 1 point for every event they were in but then I realized that incorrectly gives dragons that are only in one event a point as well. The code has since been changed to give dragons 1 point for every additional event they are a part of per year. Not sure why this change didn't affect the Rift-exclusives as I did count their respective events but I'm not gonna dwell on it.

I already edited a Dear DECA post I'd made recently but I'll put my thoughts separately here too just so they're in one place if anyone else posts...
I feel that the style/enhancements option would be a far better route to go down than evolution. Going by decawillow's comment, it seems like the key reason why this evolution dragon is even being considered is the fact that some people want it to keep the sea theme while others would've preferred the traditional theme. An evolution would still require people to have both if they wanted to complete the Dragonarium, and unless the evolution dragon was called something like "QYL 2.0" the QYL we already have - the water-themed one - would still, in a way, be the technically "canon", original QYL. If it was an enhancement instead I personally feel that wouldn't be as much of a thing, since they're both the same dragon.
Also, the fact that what I'm going to call QYL 2.0 is going to be added primarily added due to aesthetics feels, to me, like enhancement would just be a better thing to use. In my head, enhancements are primarily (pretty much only) aesthetic, whereas evolutions are meant to change the dragon - not so it's completely different because that wouldn't make sense, but enough that it's still its own unique dragon. (Part of the reason why I didn't like LD being an evo. Even Mesmerus was a bit iffy for me and I thought an enhancement would've been better, but it was different enough that I didn't mind it being evo rather than style.)
From a practical perspective, enhancements are also easier to get if they're like the sun-moon hybrid styles, since you can just buy them from the shop. The typical 10-decorations method for evos would probably be more expensive. The SM school/LD evo deco was also more expensive than the sun-moon enhancements due to multiple stages of clearing. Though, as long as QYL's evo deco(s) was/were added to this event where there isn't already any other enhancements/evo decos that would also be in the pool to get them from chests, it wouldn't be too bad. And obviously add the decos to the golden chests. I do think if Deca went down the 10-decos route for QYL 2.0 it would be unreasonably expensive to get it, if it's primarily an aesthetics change.
TL;DR if Deca goes down the evo route I myself would prefer it if the total price to get any required deco(s) for evolution wasn't more than 5k at absolute max, 3k preferably, because it sounds to me like this dragon is pretty much solely going to be an aesthetics change. But I would highly recommend Deca considers using the enhancement mechanic for QYL, since they already used evolution to update Mesmer's aesthetics after community backlash, so it'd be nice if they did something different. Enchancements would let people have just the design they prefer (evo would require people to get both for Dragonarium completion), or if they liked both, they could get two and only put the enhancement on one.
-----
Ultimately my personal opinion isn't much important (as long as QYL 2.0 isn't released in this event, which it doesn't sound like it will be) since I won't be playing after this event, at least for a long while, but I wanted to offer my thoughts anyway in case it either resonates with anyone or gives them something to think about/add to/critique.

Thank you for your feedback, Kaleni! I do understand the disappointment with another evolution dragon. In general, they are not very popular with players.
DragonVale was built on a custom engine which, of course, has limitations. Backflip created enhancements to push the envelope. It allowed them to add characteristics to dragons that they could not do within the usual process. So, the enhancements are extremely complex. Due to this complexity, Deca has said they will probably not add to the enchantment collection. There’s a much greater risk of problems, bugs, etc, with enhancements than evolutions, which is basically just a new dragon.

Fair enough!
In that case, if I would still be playing at this point, I'd rather they used QYL in a combo for QYL 2.0 rather than having QYL be removed in the process (which is obviously what happens in evolution and I imagine the key reason why it's so unpopular). I understand why evolution is a better route to go down than combo though.

Ooh! It could also be day-night forms! Since the twilight tower is in a decent amount of events it wouldn't be too long until someone who doesn't like one of the forms can get the twilight tower and change it to a theme that means their preferred design is constant. I don't know if day-night forms would also have similar issues as enhancements, but Deca has done multiple day-night dragons, so I assume it's at least a little practically easier than enhancements.

Bloodstone suggested day/night forms for the Quad solution 😄. I love the idea, would’ve been perfect! Deca went with an evolution dragon.

i made my comments as Mamil_Elwing on Reddit and i still believe what i said. Too many things depart from the Established Set of Leap Year Dragons to make this an intentional design. A full-on DV Leap Year with an artistic 'nod' to the ocean 'may' have been more accepted. At this point, i know one thing for sure... there is no way what-so-ever they will ever be able to please everyone and i strongly recommend choosing the least decisive method possible and as far as i am concerned that means one thing: LISTEN TO THE GAME REPS!!!
My personal Fantasy would be for them to quit trying to defend this mistake, rename that beautiful, popular dragon design that is already a crown jewel for "Deepest Depths" and create a new QLY dragon. Or, even just have TWO: the Oceanic QLY "newly discovered relation to the expected one" & create a new QLY. Hmmm, perhaps that is why he's so late... he was saving her from a mean sea monster! Well, i just improved my own Fantasy!
But i'm guessing that they'll go for the Cash Grab.
I was gonna comment on their announcement post because originally I had 2 ideas but I forgot the second idea in the process of making the comment, which is a shame because I remember it being a good one.
The first idea was just that whenever they do release the evolution to rename the base dragon because it'll be much weirder IMO for the one that's meant to fit the Leap Year family to be the one with a name that breaks their convention.
Many people referred to the original as "Quadruple Enfis" mostly as a joke, but I kind of do hope they change its name to that, or something else, but that one was in the forefront of my mind.
This update fixes the Ads for Resources feature and includes new icons for buildings. See Willow’s announcement on the Deca Announcements thread!

Sorry I write here because I can’t answer on the Deca anouncements topic: ah but what is this horror? dv offers me an update (right in the middle of an event, I should have known!) and bam, everywhere in my park I see exclamation points appear on a red background! to encourage me to buy treats, to encourage me to use the coliseum, to encounter dragons and everything! It’s painful and useless!

Yep I find it pretty horrendous too. Deca please provide a setting to turn it off, there’s a reason I don’t allow push notifications and I don’t want my park marred by them either!

There is a setting to turn them off. Go to settings and check the Hide New Icons box and they disappear
Some issues have surfaced with the new Icon feature:
• Low Resolution Mode is not available on the Option menu • Optimise Memory cannot be enabled • Option menu contents are too big
Deca is looking into the issues.
There have been requests to turn off the icons individually. The suggestion has been passed on to Deca, but it may not be possible.
Full detail on the feature are on the Deca Announcements thread.

Do you know if DECA has given any thought to implementing a sort feature in the social menu? That would be a huge improvement!
It’s been requested a lot for many years. A sort/search would be the single greatest improvement to the game and help all those players who are having crashes and performance issues with hundreds of eggs in their Gifts. But so far, Deca hasn’t said they’re working on it, and they haven’t rejected the idea.
