I look forward to the day when I've been playing long enough that I can store up thousands of gems. 😂 I don't plan on getting any fire other than red, so maybe I'll see how many gems I can hoard 🤣
I vaguely remember my early days playing DV. There were never enough gems for much of anything and they were hard to acquire. Deca is much more generous now about giving out gems. But early on it is vital that you save as many gems as possible and avoid spending them.
It took a long time but I would always breed whichever gemstone dragon was available for the month (especially the ones that produce one gem per week) until I had filled the permanent gemstone islands next to Kairos’s perch. Then I moved on to acquiring gemstone habitats and stocking those with gemstone dragons. Gemstone habitats used to cost a fixed price of 150 gems, but it was too good to last and Deca eventually introduced inflationary pricing to gemstone habitats. They are still quite inexpensive in the early levels of the game and then you can use Wishes three time a year to acquire even more. The hard part is having the patience to implement a long-term strategy like this, but it does eventually pay off and you find yourself with a comfortable weekly gem income. If I can do this, anybody can do this! My wife gave me a plaque that reads: “My patience has been tested. I’m negative.”
I love that plaque! I need one of my own 😂
I did have one time when I was saving up for the cave upgrades (and a bunch of habitats because I still needed EC during events). I worked out the minimum daily average I earned so that I would be pleasantly surprised when I reached the 500-or-so I needed earlier than expected 😅
So I twinned every dragon that I needed that was available and got my only Virgonian which is a twin thanks to adlerist having one up
Twins needed is down to 32
Will post list in the twin weekend one
Wow, only 32 twins! I distinctly remember when I only had 25 left. There was no Twin Weekend for a year and a half, so it was slow and miserable. We kept asking Deca to reinstate Twin Weekend, and finally, they brought it back. By then, I only needed a dozen twins and twinned them all in one day. Oh, the memories...
I can’t wait for you to reach blue fire! 💙🔥💙

Just a quick clarification here. It was Backflip who changed the price of the Gemstone habitats back in 2017. They realised the error and changed the habitat’s price structure to save the gem economy.

I am guilty of hoarding my gems like a Swiss banker. The only things I am willing to spend gems on are habitats, decos, and conversion to DC when another new island is available and I am short the necessary DC. I will speed up a breed if it only costs a few gems, but spending 40+ gems to finish a breed would have me looking for the bottle of brandy.
It’s a hard habitat to break, but once you speed up a Double Rainbow, you’ll be cured. 🌈🥳
Another way to view it, Backflip gave us gems, and the ability to easily acquire them so we can surpass the long breeding fails and complete our dragon collections. The long breeding/incubation times are built into a game that has a design to speed up breeding/incubation. If the gems and the ability to fast-forward breeds weren’t a thing, then the game would have 1-8 hour timers.
Besides, there really isn’t anything else for endgames to spend their gems on. And for those who collect twins, speeding up breeds is a necessity for blue fire.

I haven't sped it up (yet). 😟
I am determined to use some this weekend to get twins of the dragons that I need traited, so next time the Runic Caves roll around I can get a twin traited version.

If you blue heart some on my list in the twin thread I'll get you some twins. I have a couple 1000 gems to burn.
You don’t need a tent when you’re camping under the stars. But if you want to capture the starry magic of the night, the Noel dePlante-approved Stargazer is a requirement. Don’t be left without the celestial details. Simply rate all the new Camping Under the Stars II dragons before the event concludes, and you'll be marvelling at the constellations every night!
Since we have completed two full years of Rate a Dragon there are now two previous camping awards to offer. Instead of the Stargazer, you can choose the Astral Spire from last year’s Camping Under the Stars or Bluetooth the Bluebird from Camp DragonVale. When you’re done rating the Camping Under the Stars II dragons, message me, and Astral Spire or the beloved Bluebird will be placed on your profile instead. Please be aware that awards will be added to profiles up to 12 days after the event concludes, depending on how busy the next event becomes, bug reports, schedules, and real life. Thank you for your patience.
To give you a head start in the stars, here are the first two Rate a Dragon threads
is it just me, or does the capricornian link also just go to the sagittarian thread?
No it’s not just you lol. 😄 I’ll change the URL. In case anyone needs the RAD threads they’re on the RAD board. From the Home page under DV Discussions - All Active Threads there’s a board called Rate a Dragon, click on it and all the RAD threads will show.

I'm very much the same in that I hoard my gems - but I decided last Twins Weekend that the reason I had the gems was to get blue fire. I dropped an obscene amount of gems that weekend and I've spent even more today! I've tried for every dragon my friends are sharing for which I haven't gotten a twin, and though some elude me still, I've moved on to trying to single parent clone the event dragons. I've also bought bucket loads of time skip tokens, they're very useful for speeding up timers with a half hour that I don't want to wait but don't want to spend a gem on, and all going well I don't need the EC for anything else! I would not be surprised if I end up in triple digits for gems by the end of this. Or even doubles! UPDATE: I have cloned Capricornian, Leonian, and icon trick tells me I have Scorpionian In the CBC first try! Time to go to bed, and I’ll tackle the rest tomorrow - only 284 Twins left to get 😂

I think the Rift is absolutely ingenious. It is Backflip’s brilliant addition to address the expansion issues of the game. Without it, most players would not be able to breed the new limited dragons, and newer players could not breed 800 dragons in several years. So they’d just give up. The Rift is critical to gameplay and player retention; it’s kept DV alive. I know some players don’t like it, but it’s extremely easy to ignore since it’s not in the Vale.
I don’t think the Rift economy needs work. It’s not difficult to earn Etherium if you visit your park regularly. It encourages players to open the game multiple times a day and keeps them connected to DV. Plus, the Rift thankfully doesn’t use gems, so it’s not in competition with the Vale and doesn’t stretch resources.
I know you have a problem with the Rift. You mention it every other event 😄, which is perfectly fine. We welcome the comments, but it does change the topic of the event thread. In anticipation, I would like to ask anyone who wants to talk about the Rift to please post on The Rift thread. Thank you.

284 twins will become 28 twins quickly! If you’re interested in mystery eggs, the regular Egg of Mystery is still a great option for twins since you have a decent chance of not receiving a duplicate. But I can certainly understand if you prefer to use gems over Etherium.

That’s a really good suggestion! I’m willing to spend both tbh though at the moment I have more gems

Thanks, adlerist, but we will have to agree to disagree on the Rift. I will mention it no further.

We don’t have to agree on the Rift or other things in the game. That’s perfectly normal. Everybody doesn’t have to agree on everything. But you can still discuss the Rift, and you’re encouraged to do so. It’s just preferred that it’s done on The Rift thread so players who are seeking info about the event don’t have to scroll through a lot of Rift posts.

Has anybody else had weird cloning issues in co-op? I know rng is a fickle beast, but I feel like my accounts have been jinxed for certain dragons and I’m not very happy.
Case in point: We were trying to double parent clone an Aisa yesterday. Aisa has about 20% odds. I did at least 40 breeds and eventually gave up. It was unbelievable. A friend tried with the account I was breeding with and got Aisa first try.
We dp co-oped Brood. Another 20%. I must have done over 40 breeds for it as well. I did eventually get it. We were slow, the other account was checked regularly to accept twins and we made sure all twins were gathered and the game was off before I sped up the Brood. It never appeared. After I did over 40 breeds to get it.
Now, with a separate account, I just gave up on Starshine. I wish I’d been counting. I spent over 500 gems. Easily 40+ breeds. Probably 50. Starshine has 10% odds with two of them. I gave up and tried it with my main account (which does not need a twin Starshine) and got it first try.
I’m flabbergasted and really very annoyed. I easily spent 1000 gems on my alt between Aisa and Brood. Yes, I could have stopped any time, but what kind of rng is that? It doesn’t seem possible. I also restarted a few times because I thought it might somehow reset… something.
We also tried for Dawn for a while and I gave up after a very large number of Storm and Hail fails (and a few rainbows), but it’s only 5% oddsish.
Did anybody else have this issue? I just can’t believe it. We have a ticket out for the three twins that account lost this weekend, but I can honestly say I’m pretty turned off. I don’t know if there’s any point in emailing Deca. They’ll probably just tell me it’s luck. But this seems like a bug. adlerist any thoughts?
I may have got a twin Capricornian with my main park, but because Crystal (and Subterranean too apparently) is a possible fail, I won't know for some hours (I have some gems but I think I'd have to be up till the early hours to skip it). I wish dragons didn't have incubation times that were the same as permanent hybrids that can be a result of using them 😂😭
Edit: I did just get Leonian, which is great! It is a shame I can't put him in the same habitat as Kotun though 🐈

Thanks a lot every friend I got, I came back in january, after a three years break or so. I was late with my dragons/pedestals/ decorations/ islands/ counters. Yesterday, I got my 792th collected dragon! With the big help of my co-op friends. And I got all the dragons I was waiting for in this event! Next event perhaps... I'll get Nox and woven?!
Next step: the 49 pedestals I need! About the decorations, I'll be patient... I just need 52 of them!

Congrats!
Woven is an anniversary dragon, and I'm pretty sure Nox is a Halloween dragon, so hopefully those two will show up pretty soon! 🐨
