The one thing that I consider most frustrating is how vague BFS was in this event. The magic event was new to everyone including them so the confusion was expected.
The description of the island does clearly state eggs must be bought in order to get it. But when people asked BFS to clarify this, they chose to be vague replying: "OMG. Is it enough to be an intense player or do you have to buy stuff to get all the nice things? (bfs) Visiting Friends, competing in the Colosseum, clearing clearables, collecting cash and collecting food is all you need to earn eggs" instead of outright saying "yes, eggs must be bought to get everything.
The other thing is, since the island must be bought with real money, why not just make the price clear. Yes, I do realize that they are trying to make as much of a profit as possible, but that's just shady. There is no egg counter like the magic event causing people that aren't keeping meticulous count to not even know how much they have to spend.
This is pretty much how I feel. I think that the communication was too vague and it left a bad taste in my mouth. It reminded me of buying a car and trying to get a firm price out of the salesperson. I'm not trying to draw a firm analogy; it just emotionally felt that way. It was also a new concept with DV and in my opinion was a fairly hefty price tag. Of course no one is forcing me to play or buy anything but this was a huge paradigm shift for DV. I think there are better ways to communicate such a shift. I couldn't decide if they were being sneaky, if they thought they were clever, lousy business persons or what. Now that the event is almost over we have good hindsight but remember our confusion at the start?
* not sure if you get panels two at a time or one at a time. Mine have always turned up in pairs but others report the per100 amount so that is what I have gone with.
Aha! I guess that explains why I went from having 2 panels left (uncolored) to completing the magic event when I turned in 40 magic eggs. Sounds like they do become colored in pairs.
So, in my main park I purchased 900 eggs last weekend when I was not certain that the 2nd double weekend would include 2 for 1 magic egg purchases. Easily got enough eggs to complete the event last night.
After the wizards officially announced the gem consolation prize I found that I was satisfied with getting the gems in my "other" park. I should be getting about the same number of gems as I would get by purchasing same dollar amount I spent on magic eggs. In my head that doubles the price I paid for the magic eggs to get the island on my main park.
Edit: I can't see why my post is marked like a quote, how do I fix that?

Thank u! That was what i was afraid of. ? i had been reading this thread avidly & thought i was up-to-speed in my understanding but guess i misunderstood the instructions about the disappearing options in the marketplace. I really cannot understand what BFS is thinking...why prevent someone from completing the goal even when they r willing to purchase what they need. Seems very counterproductive....ah, well...is my own fault for dithering back & forth about buying the island. I did purchase a 900 ME basket last weekend which enabled me to get my 2nd ovalith dragon & was hoping to complete the event w/o any more purchases. My calculations show me at about 130 ME short even with purchasing all they will allow me to purchase. Don't see where i could pick up that many ME at this point. My coliseum win comes late in the evening (and even that would not be enuf) & event will be long over by then. Park is not giving me any more eggs at this point ...thanks again for your response! U saved me from wasting some money :0)
Sorry to say, but the colosseum would be enough. 400+150+60+60+60 would not set you over the limit in that order, and you would be 10 away from your goal, which would have allowed you to finish with colosseum eggs. ARE YOU POSITIVE YOU GOT YOUR FULL 100 EGGS TODAY? If you still have two taps left from treats and you hadn't gotten the full 80 from it, you could get the island for a total of $10 if you wanted. (obviously finishing your last taps AFTER buying eggs) Sure you got your full 80+80+40 eggs?

I think their intention was probably to prevent people from buying more eggs than they needed, which could result in a lot of complaints and/or refunds.
But I agree, this was not the ideal way to go about it.

You can easily get within 10 ME of victory by purchasing:
1 x 400 1 x 150 3 x 60 Total: 730 ME
Which is why I wanted to make sure your count was accurate.
Have you been visiting other peoples parks to collect party hats?
Do you have any obstacles left to destroy or have you already destroyed 5 since your magic reset?
Well, I'm somewhere around 500 MEs towards the island. And I don't think I'm going to buy it. Curse GC for messing up the event for me. Ah well. Nothing mnuch to do about it. On the brigthside, I did manage to get DV to work on my phone again. And I guess I'll receive a nice amount of gems. (Not that... I need them?)

Yeah I'd rather been allowed to pay for the island with gems than get yet MORE gems in the aftermath

Many folks have been playing DV for a long time and have acquired large hordes of gold coins and gems. When the lifeblood of your revenue stream is the purchase of gems - and many players don't need to purchase gems - what do you do? You introduce a new currency, in this case magic eggs. A standalone currency that can't be purchased with the previous ones.
This I think gets to the essence of what has caused a bit of discontent with this latest promotion. The game developers introduced a new currency that was the only way for players to buy new goodies. Magic eggs could be earned, but not in numbers sufficient to purchase all of the goodies. And the only way more eggs could be purchased was with real money - not with the existing currencies of gold coins and gems, making those essentially worthless for the new goodies.
Very clever, a little troubling. I expect we will see more new currencies introduced in the future. One of the reasons the game developers are so willing to trade gems for eggs is that gems will be less useful moving forward.

I just hope they give us some time to recover from this event before they roll out the next one. And hopefully the next event will be more transparent about the requirements and basically have more sensible requirements.
Anyway, if I'm not wrong, the 60-egg purchase will still remain even when players have less than 60 eggs to go on their progress to getting the Lost Island.
For me, the event is over, and it's back to regular DV business. For now, that is...

Yahoo!! Got my island! Thank u so much Bloodstone & BigZ!! :0) thanks to u i decided to try anyway (since i was not positive about that blooming egg count! )... I purchased the 400 ME for $4.99 (which did then disappear from my market), then the 150 ME for $1.99 (which disappeared also), & one 60 ME basket for 99 cents & it got me the island!!! Woooohooo!!! Am Thrilled ! Thanks for your help & encouragement! Love that we have this forum for help cuz it is truly too complicated for me to figure out on my own....positive boosts, negative boosts, shrines, no shrines, etc etc ...has my head spinning most of the time...i usually have to pour over the posts in the threads over & over before i finally understand what to do....thanks again!!! :0) ...gonna go look at my lovely island! :0) :0) *Tried to add an attachment of my island but don't know if it worked ...?

Yep, definitely one of the folks sitting on a large-ish pile of gems. I remember the days when I used to be so careful with how I spent them... but now that there's nothing to spend them on, I'll drop several of them on a whim. Hm, which Snoly did I just breed. Might as well spend some gems on that.
It's nice to see that the eggs aren't going to completely disappear, as they are still useful to people just starting out! Or at least those who haven't hit the "DV Ceiling."
Just wish there was something I could actually do with my gems!

Got the island last night, but didn't add the Vernal Glass yet. Like the look of the island without the pedestal. To those who have the island, what are you doing? Is the Vernal Glass storable after placing? Would also like to buy decorating flowers, like those purple ones on Lost Island.

Glad we can be helpful! Or rather I don't want to take credit, so instead glad Bloodstone could be helpful.
Hope you stick around even after the event ends. If you ever need any help udnerstanding what's been said in a post, or anything you find confusing in DV go ahead and ask. There's many who've been playing DV for quite some time, and we'd love to help out anyway we can!
As to attachments, you can't upload pictures attached to a post, sadly we don't have anymore space for that. You'll need a third party image hosting site for that. I use Photobucket, but I'm sure there are many others.
I went ahead and spent the $9.98 to purchase the ME necessary to get the island. I've only spent about $20.00 over the last 18 months or so on DV and felt it was worth it to me to show my support and appreciation for BFS.

Got a sign, when I hit the bed last night,...it said "GET UP, and Buy it, so I can go to sleep." I did, stayed up a little pass 2:00 to finish fine tuning it, not sure if it will stay this way. I look at the Lost Island as a continuity of egg island, colors and deco, and design are similar. Gemstone pedestals will stay on the Lost Island, I might move or add things...etc. Rainows and LY always have their eyes on breakfasts, good thing Kairo keeps them at bay.

I received the vernal glass and 226 gems. Which means that I had around 1130 eggs. Based on this information, I believe we were wrong about how the buying options disappeared. I still had the option to buy 900 eggs if I had wanted to do so. Thus, I believe the options disappeared only when a smaller option would get you all the way. Since I needed more than 450 or whatever the next smaller option was, I could still buy the 900 eggs even though it was more than I needed. This makes much more sense than what most people were thinking happened with the options. I am very excited to have 1,628 gems since that is the most I have ever had in the game.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...
DV friend ID: Likylind#5293 Baby park: DORULIND#1400
In my other park where I did not he the lost island I just got the Vernal glass and 265 gems.
Now, what to spend all those gems on? Upgrade hibernation cave, habitats, or ?
i can always use gems. I have upgraded all my breeding layers, the nursery, and giant habitats, & storage tower twice, & can upgrade it again, for 150 gems (it currently hold 25 multiple items, and when moving eggs, it tells you the name of the egg, instead of just the element). I also upgraded my hibernation cave and they can both be upgraded again for more gems.
I have used gems to add extra habitats to my park, since topping out at level 55 my next habitat will cost 250 gems. I have also used gems to buy the 90% off gemstone dragon offered quarterly. I have not upgraded my gemstone island, but see ,that I will need to if I get all birthstone dragons.. No guarantees getting the gemstone dragon of the month, i have had both cave and island with the combo, and have had many many fails.
I think it was fair for what we did get, someone 2 pages back explained it so well, with getting the two gemstone dragons without constantly breeding the combo and free habitat for doing normal everyday stuff.. Sorry I can't seem to work the quote from tablet here.
I think the seasonal habitats look great on lost island, but also egg display looks awesome too. So many creative people here with Fabulous Ideas..
The Vernal Glass looks great with the rainbows habitats & blends in well with rainbow fountains. I can't make up mind about what to do with island yet, my rainbows might fit in well there? .Will post a pic when I think it is ready.
I am really thankful to Everyone here & for all of your contributions on this thread helping us all get through the event with great tips and math skills. Thank you all so very much!

I only had 816 eggs, but the 900 egg was the most I could buy in the market as well. I could not have bought the larger one.

Well, I stuck to my guns and did not spend for the island. I'm not exactly happy about not having it, but I can live with the decision. Count me in the crowd who'd prefer that BFS be clear and upfront about their money grabs, though. Most other freemium games who have succeeded have done so without the slight sense of dealing with someone dishonest...even if we do sometimes consider the devs who are more forthright to be greedy, I'll take honest greed any day over the sense of deception I got from this event.
The gems, however, were a nice bonus, and I'm very glad we got to keep the Vernal Glass. Sadly, the gems will go quickly, as they always do, since I can't seem to breed an Arbor for the life of me! LOL
