I loved the egg hunt! Got two gem dragons and a stack of gems for both parks. Haven't decided what to do with them on park 1 but have bought the gifting tree on park 2. Glad of a rest now and a return to 24 hour food etc.
* not sure if you get panels two at a time or one at a time. Mine have always turned up in pairs but others report the per100 amount so that is what I have gone with.
Aha! I guess that explains why I went from having 2 panels left (uncolored) to completing the magic event when I turned in 40 magic eggs. Sounds like they do become colored in pairs.
So, in my main park I purchased 900 eggs last weekend when I was not certain that the 2nd double weekend would include 2 for 1 magic egg purchases. Easily got enough eggs to complete the event last night.
After the wizards officially announced the gem consolation prize I found that I was satisfied with getting the gems in my "other" park. I should be getting about the same number of gems as I would get by purchasing same dollar amount I spent on magic eggs. In my head that doubles the price I paid for the magic eggs to get the island on my main park.
Edit: I can't see why my post is marked like a quote, how do I fix that?
Edit from Pixie: When quoting another person there will be an end quote sign - a bracket, then a slash, then it says quote and another ending bracket. If you start typing before the end quote sign, then what you want to say will be included in the quoted area. Just be sure you enter a couple of lines between the quoted message and what you want to say to avoid that evil trap.
Well, I stuck to my guns and did not spend for the island. I'm not exactly happy about not having it, but I can live with the decision. Count me in the crowd who'd prefer that BFS be clear and upfront about their money grabs, though. Most other freemium games who have succeeded have done so without the slight sense of dealing with someone dishonest...even if we do sometimes consider the devs who are more forthright to be greedy, I'll take honest greed any day over the sense of deception I got from this event.
The gems, however, were a nice bonus, and I'm very glad we got to keep the Vernal Glass. Sadly, the gems will go quickly, as they always do, since I can't seem to breed an Arbor for the life of me! LOL
Well I and the others in the family opted to skip the island with our 8 parks (total) and be happy with the extra gems, the gemstone habitat, the 2 gemstone dragons, and the Vernal Glass thing so you're not alone. I don't think that those who bought the island went over to the dark side though. It was always a 50-50 choice. There are good reasons for and against. Time to move on and forget about it. So for us I think we're saying "Island? What Island? We don't need no steeeking island!"

The end of the event coincided with the end of the timer on the discounts for Magic Eggs in the Market. We had plenty of advance notice, in my opinion, but that's just me. For example, we were told many a time that the event ended on the day after the 27th. Much ink was spilled on this forum discussing today being the last day. Not that this forum is a voice for BFS (we are not affiliated with BFS at all). And the timer on the discounts... I'm not sure how this works out to being anyone's fault.
Was anyone surprised that the event ended when it did?
Edit: I'm not trying to be difficult or insensitive. I just don't understand.

I was really pleased to get the Vernal Glass decoration. As it turned out I was at 1156 eggs in one park (had an island to clear) but had exactly 1000 (BFS's count) in the other. Interestingly, because I hadn't reached 1200, both symbols had the same number of panes filled in. I can't say that I would have bought the islands had I known my exact egg count and exactly how it would affect any egg purchase, but I would have appreciated more transparency. I am at the level where I can make very good use of the gems. Overall I think the event was more "good" than "bad" for me. The island would have been nice but I won't lose sleep over it.
One plus - we have a lot of new folks in the forum. I hope all of you stick around!

I agree I think we had plenty of notice from BFS and from the forum together with lots of helpful advice. It certainly got me checking the forum more often learning from others experience!

I'm sorry tho hear that things did not go as planned for you
However...
- They told us the event was running "through" 4/27, which is the Wizards way of saying it would end sometime on 4/28. If I recall correctly, the source of that date was this loading screen pop up, which started showing up in game about two weeks ago:
- I believe the last day was also mentioned on FB, though I don't know if it made it into the DV FAQ (didn't check). We posted about it here as well.
- There WAS a countdown timer in game that showed down to the second when Double Magic Weekend would end on 4/28. We inferred that the event would end at the same time. Unfortunately, you had to go to the market to see the countdown timer. They prompted you to click on it with the "You've got deals" pop up, but I think many people started ignoring that pop up since it seemed like . Overall, that timer probably could have been done better to avoid any confusion.
- We sent the following e-mail yesterday in an effort to make sure all of our forum members knew the end was nigh:
Extra! Extra! Easter Event Ending!
Today's top news story: the hunt for magic eggs is coming to a close soon. In less than 15 hours, the event will be over. We would like remind everyone that even if you are unable to acquire one or more of the rewards, do make sure to spend every last egg you get! Hoarding them will get you nothing, but spending them may get you a nice consolation prize: gems!
According to our sky charts, there will be a Solar Eclipse on April 29th. As usual, this even has been heralded by the return of the Solar Eclipse Dragon, which is available in the market now. You also may have noticed we have an all new limited dragon in the market! The Arbor Dragons are here to celebrate Arbor Day. But, as limited dragons, these wont be around forever. In fact, we have several dragons that will be leaving the market very soon: Terradiem, Motley and in a few short days, Diamond.
So stop on by the forum if you want to learn the combinations for these rare dragons, brag about your success or commiserate about failure!

Well, I passed on the island. No regrets. I would have bought it if I needed it for more habitats but my habitats are maxed out and I have plenty of room. I appreciate getting the two new dragons, the extra decorations and the new habitat.

Do you need additional habitats? When I first started playing, I always running into the problem of too many dragons, and too few habitats.
I've been checking this forum from time to time and I didn't even realize the event was ending. I though we had another week. Thank goodness you good folks sent out an email. Much appreciated!
I'm maxed out on gem trades, but always happy to connect for park appreciation purposes.

I stare at my computer screen for the longest time, trying to find the right words to comfort you. I know you are really upset, and should be, but the only thing that come to my mind was that I am sorry that things did not work out as you planned. You know I would help you if I could. *Hugs* You can vent, curse...etc and I will listen.

> On the subject of advanced notice and wrt Hasbro/BFS communication...
I don't believe that players should have to rely on non-affiliated forums or facebook pages to find out exactly what is going on when real money is involved. It took the collective communication and wisdom of this very experienced forum to figure out wtf was going on and there were still a few incorrect assumptions.
Nor should rules and procedures be doled out piecemeal by a company in a manner more suggestive of a CYA memo.
I "knew" the event would end on the 27th but, interestingly, at 9:00 last evening when I swept my parks (that's when my magic was routinely resetting), both egg timers said that my magic eggs would reset in 24 hours. Now, I assumed that was merely the code having a mind of its own so I ignored it and collected what I could. I could just as reasonably have thought to myself that I had a full 24 hours on the final day based on the reset message.
I also turned in all of my eggs before bed last night based on advice I read on this forum. Maybe the game did tell us to do that or at least imply it but I don't recall. I certainly don't believe it was stated up front which is where all communication involving things that will require an in-app purchase to complete should be stated.
Also, the ending of a Deal in the Market does not always mean that the item is going away - just the special pricing.
There is absolutely no excuse for Hasbro/BFS to have been so ambiguous. There is no reason why they couldn't have given people an accurate "egg balance" - especially those who made purchases. The code was there - they instantly gave us an egg count when they traded them for gems.

As buffy said, there's really nothing I can offer in the way of comfort--I'm sorry things went sideways for you. Once you have a chance to calm down a little, a reasonable, consistent, & coherent message to Backflip might at least get you an understanding of what went wrong that you didn't get your island. And your experience is definitely something they should be made aware of for their business going forward, especially if it causes you to leave the game entirely.
This gets back to the relative lack of transparency with this event. I doubt reikiquilter had the only experience of this kind among their customers, and it's unfortunate. The timer probably should have been more visible, not just on the Deals page, and a running tally of eggs should have been visible in a spelled out, non-graphical, non-vague way. The Vernal Glass is pretty, but it only updated every 200 eggs once you were working towards the island, and when you're down to the wire, that's a problem. My calculations said I'd have 1100 eggs banked at the end of the event. As it turns out, I had 1099 eggs according to BFS...which means if I had bought the 900 egg package, I would have been short. By one egg. Meaning I'd have to spend another $1.
That's just silly. And it made me even more glad I didn't buy into this event.

Agreed. One reason I decided NOT to spend was I couldn't be sure $10 would do it. If I saw the numbers and could have been sure, I would have spent $10 for the island. Bit my lip and not been happy, but spent it. But that's my limit. The fear it would be more caused me to not spend at all. The money is much better spent toward the Elsa dress for my daughter I preordered yesterday, anyway, I expect!

Personally. The island wasn't really much to me. I have enough space. I'm not a maxed out player. Those gems were amazing, the decorations and dragons were. The excitement of the whole thing was. I'm happy.

Jolie, you make excellent points. It would not kill BFS to communicate better, and I agree too that it should not take the combined wit and wisdom of a 2000+-person forum to figure out what they mean by what they say. If they are going to go to the trouble to develop a Help system for their event, why can't it say when the event is going to end. It should! This forum and other such communities should not be their excuse to justify sloppy communication. Thanks for speaking up. +5 cool points.
What they need is a good, strong, consistent writer or manager of communications and public relations. A technical writer would be an ideal candidate... where could we find such a person?

I just want to point out that I never got the pop up message, nor did I get your e-mail. BFS has been extremely hit-and-miss recently in letting their customers know important DV information. I did know when the event was ending, but if not for my participation in this forum as well as the DV wiki external forum, I might not have known.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

I'm sad that there is so much frustration around this event. Like Poppy, I'm happy that I got what I did. For me it was fun, but that's because I pretty much knew at the begining that I wasn't going to finish and get the island.
There could have been a more clear cut answer to the question "Can I get the island without spending money" I think the answers I saw from BFS were all very vague and sidestepped the question. That portion certainly could've been handled better. But I do think that for the most part I knew what I was getting out of the event.
Did anybody make a calculation of how many eggs a player getting the maximum possible hunt every day of the game would have been short to get the island ? Just read the comments on FB, opinions are half and half on this event. I think BFS should have make it so that a smaller amount was necessary to get the island, and thus, on the last week end make it 3 for one instead of 2 for one. If the island had been in the range of spending 5 dollars and not - i think - over 10 dollars, they would have made a greater profit. I think, they miscalculated their chances to make a good profit and p... Off many players. Bad management.
