I'm sorry tho hear that things did not go as planned for you
However...
- They told us the event was running "through" 4/27, which is the Wizards way of saying it would end sometime on 4/28. If I recall correctly, the source of that date was this loading screen pop up, which started showing up in game about two weeks ago:
- I believe the last day was also mentioned on FB, though I don't know if it made it into the DV FAQ (didn't check). We posted about it here as well.
- There WAS a countdown timer in game that showed down to the second when Double Magic Weekend would end on 4/28. We inferred that the event would end at the same time. Unfortunately, you had to go to the market to see the countdown timer. They prompted you to click on it with the "You've got deals" pop up, but I think many people started ignoring that pop up since it seemed like . Overall, that timer probably could have been done better to avoid any confusion.
- We sent the following e-mail yesterday in an effort to make sure all of our forum members knew the end was nigh:
I just want to point out that I never got the pop up message, nor did I get your e-mail. BFS has been extremely hit-and-miss recently in letting their customers know important DV information. I did know when the event was ending, but if not for my participation in this forum as well as the DV wiki external forum, I might not have known.
And that's the clincher for me, as you correctly say: a customer of BFS should not have to belong to a forum, nor use Facebook, in order to understand what's going on.
Did anybody make a calculation of how many eggs a player getting the maximum possible hunt every day of the game would have been short to get the island ? Just read the comments on FB, opinions are half and half on this event. I think BFS should have make it so that a smaller amount was necessary to get the island, and thus, on the last week end make it 3 for one instead of 2 for one. If the island had been in the range of spending 5 dollars and not - i think - over 10 dollars, they would have made a greater profit. I think, they miscalculated their chances to make a good profit and p... Off many players. Bad management.
I agree with Viviane. BFS has almost always had a deft touch. I think they were clumsy and heavy handed this time and I doubt it's their fault. I suspect that Hasbro is putting pressure on them to generate more revenues. Freemium games walk a fine line and most find it difficult not to get a bit too aggressive. Still a fun event without the island though and it's not requred to move ahead. So in the end it was the players choice.

Wow. I NEVER saw thst pop up message either. An another android issue perhaps. HOWEVER I would have assumed after going through magic event they STILL would do a last call reminder. They do for All sorts of dragons. The inconsistencies are very frustrating! But I do appreciate you sharing that thank you

And Bloodstone makes a very important point--a player should not have to "research" to be a successful player. If it werent for this forum I would never have made level 20. Thats rather lame.
Yes Poppy and Vivinne I feel Backflip was very heavy handed this event. I am still in the fence as to whether I continue...
And for the record, I assumed (yeah I know), that the counter in the market Onky was for how long the double lasted, not the event. That was clear as a mud dragon.

I don't think it's just an Android issue, as it happens with my iPhone. I think it's just a general issue!
Agreed with Viv and Poppy. BFS has been getting more money hungry. I'm pretty sure we said something during the magic event, but at least that was more... well I wouldn't call it deft! The magic event was not necessarily the most elegant of their efforts. There was certainly a lot of confusion at first. But if you worked hard you could get all the prizes. This Easter event went smoother I think, very easy to understand and figure out. But we were all left wondering whether or not we'd be able to reach the prizes... and that question was never really answered.

Could someone please remind me how to get those emails? I used to be signed up and it was WONDERFUL! But now I'm not getting them anymore and I really miss them.

Thank you Wapatango. The notification was already set correctly, so I changed my email address. Hopefully they will come through now. I really appreciate this forum sending me them.

Buffy Your ME island is gorgeous.
Also, I never got the popup giving the end date. I did come to the forum to confirm
And I too am among those that spent quite a bit [way too much] for the island. I was persuaded by the "movie ticket" argument, but dropping so much at one time for amortized past fun didn't feel right, either. Hopefully BFS listens to forum sentiment and realizes that many spent the money that way -- as gratitude for enjoyment or in recognition that BFS is a for profit venture. Maybe it will inform how the Co. strikes the right balance next time.

I think part of the problem is BFS has been changing many things, some good and some bad. The transition is sometimes painful for us, as they don't explain the changes. We just have to figure them out as we play, and we are used to the old way. I get very few of the loading screen pop-ups. I can only remember 1 in the last couple of months, and my pop-ups are usually old news (Motley is back, a week after it reappeared). Had it not been for the forum, I would not have known the event was coming or what day it was to end. It does seem like every player should get the same information, and not everyone uses Facebook. Yes, there was a Last Call for the Magic Event warning it was about to end, but it was a different kind of event. It ended when the whole community had contributed what BFS had set as a goal. They were warning players that close to enough had been contributed, probably hoping players would quickly buy more magic. This event ended at a set time, because each player had a set amount of time to collect or buy eggs. As the forum had posted what day BFS said the event would end, and the timer on the deals matched that, I assumed the deals were the end of the event, but it really was just an assumption. I also think that during the last event we found all the loopholes like breeding plant dragons and buying and selling bushes, so this event was very limited in order to force us to spend money. I did not get the island. For me it wasn't worth $11 or more for a 15 by 15 island that you have to put a 3 by 3 portal on. From the beginning, with their wording, I assumed I would have to buy it. Not knowing how much I would have to spend did leave a bad taste. All in all, I am happy with my dragons, habitat and gems.
I've mentioned before that the Light/Dark Magic event and this Egg Hunt event are BFS's attempts to test how much profit they can make from the players without damaging their image as a developer who doesn't force players to shell out money for prizes. The Light/Dark Magic event had sales on the first upgrade, which I personally thought was a good idea, but perhaps such a sale in the Egg Hunt wouldn't even bring us close enough to being able to complete all the rewards. Maybe the egg purchases were steep, but I have a feeling that players would be more willing to buy eggs if BFS was a little more upfront about it. This last incident where the double-egg sale timer actually turned out to be the event timer is probably leaving a bitter aftertaste, especially for players who already made egg purchases but missed out on the Lost Island because BFS wasn't clear enough on the last call for the event.
I think there were definitely some flaws in both events, but certainly some positive qualities as well. With the Egg Hunt, I appreciated not having to slog and grind all day long to the detriment of almost all other aspects of my daily life, which happened during the previous event. But of course, grinding enabled us to get most of the rewards for the Light/Dark event with minimal purchase, and we didn't feel like we were forced to buy anything. The $0.99 purchase simply looked like a good deal we couldn't resist. This time around, all the purchases looked too expensive for how many eggs we would get. I'm unsure why the Egg Hunt didn't show any definite meter which would have told us exactly how many eggs we'd spent and how many more we'd need for the reward, since the previous event was pretty clear about that. Was it because of the Light/Dark competition that BFS thought a numerical meter would have helped? It was certainly missed this time round.
Hopefully BFS has made some money out of this event, but I hope they recognise the amount of frustration and hesitation this event has induced in players, many of whom have been playing for a long time. I think they've made more replies to comments on their Facebook page, so maybe this means that they are still concerned with their image and will keep finding better ways to manage player expectation and their profit margin.

I had no obstacles and had collected most MEs the first Friday. My timer delayed so that I couldn't earn the colloseum in time the last day Nevertheless buying 900 MEs made it. That cost me 8,99 EUR I'm fine with this because I have the feeling that BFS should get something back from me for those past 2 and nearly a half years. However I would have prefered a sum of 4,99 or less. If they will continue this way I won't keep it up.

It looks good, but where's your emerald egg? I'm curious why you chose not to put it on the island, or did I miss it somewhere?
You did not miss it. I dont have it yet. I started playing DV around Feb 2013, at the time I was only able to breed the dragon. The gemstone flag is where the Emerald pedestal will be. Good eye!

Thanks wapatango. The only thing I need to breed in the month of May is the Emerald egg + new dragon(s) that BFS intro, + another Arbor. Think I am in a good position, and as the last resort I can always purchase the egg, which is not so bad.
