In general, this is the way an event goes. A new currency is introduced into the game, which you collect for doing normal things, such as collecting your cash, growing food, visiting friends. We'll put up a complete list the day of the event launch, as the community discovers the ins and outs.
Keep collecting the special currency day after day. There is a max that you can collect each day. Try with all your might to hit that max each day.
Turn in your special currency for rewards.
That's about it...
WRT diminishing returns: I'm going to use some fake numbers to give you an idea. Let's say that there is a daily max of 40 special currency for growing food. Your first sweep of your farms, you might pick up 22 candy-corn. You plant a new crop. Then you sweep your farms, you might only pick up 12 candy-corn. You still have 6 to pick up. It takes you three more sweeps to get it all. In other words, for each activity for which you are rewarded the special currency, you get less and less each time.
The best timing and strategy depends on your schedule. Usually, the game gives you a reset timer that you can check. Let's pretend that your timer resets at noon. You want to make sure you've collected all your candy before noon. I know a lot of players like to do one activity at a time until they have all their currency. In other words, some players will do nothing but collect DC from their habitats until they have reached the max before they move on to growing food.
Again, we'll update the OP here with a detailed explanation of all the ways you can earn candy-corn, and how much of it per day per task.
I received 10 candies for hatching a Mud dragon, and none for moving an egg from the cave to the nursery. I wonder if the amounts will be the same as previous events.
I was happy to see in the help that it specifies what happens with unspent candies when the event ends (they will automatically go to the rewards with excess resulting in "some treats").
Just a quick Excel document for tracking the candies for this event Looks like we should be able to get both dragons without having to make any purchases. (Well, will have to spend gems...) so with a couple double weekends we may be able to get the Spooky theme.
Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions about the Excel doc. Love to help people keep track of what prizes they should be able to reach!
Hmm, it looks like spending gems might not give us any candies, if the list of activities that will give us candies in the Help section is exhaustive.
I spent gems speeding up a couple of eggs and received 1 for 1. Also 25 for a Gold in the coliseum. Remember that candy is not good for you so feel free to send me all your chocolate. Koala to all in their quests
Looking around and enjoying life!
All Dragons are safely in their habitats or in the HC

Good to know that gems still get us candies! Nuh uh, I'm saving all my candy for myself!

Skitch is on our new loadscreen. And someone put GD back together! Idk who their new friend is though...
New event, rules event more similar to the last one... An old rule was established for writers (though it is often broken). This rule says that a book series should never be longer than a trilogy. I think... maybe BFS should have taken this rule to heart in this scenario...
Can someone do a quick cal, and see if earning all rewards are possible? You know the usual cal that we did with the last two events. Think we have enough info in OP.

Without double weekends we should still be able to reach both Nosferatu dragons (you'll need to spend gems or clear obstacles) I'm assuming the event runs to and ends on halloween... it could last a little longer. With a few double weekends then depnding on how many gems you spend/obstacles you clear then you should be able to reach the Spooky theme.

In game it says Nov 2.
I like that the second Nosferatu dragon is cheaper than the first
