BS to be corrected on page 1: i just got the latern with 215 candies and not 240.
Sorry but i got confused. Had 240 when i turned in, then it said 25 left over, thus my figure of 215. But now when i looked at the counter it says 0 in my count ....
Unlike Easter egg event, you can turn in candies without having enough for the next prize. I turned in 166 candies thinking it wouldn't let me and would tell me how many more I needed. I can see they have been applied to the lantern progress bar.
My discount gem strategy from the previous event still works: Buy a Giant habitat for 25 gems and sell it back for 10 to receive 25 candies for an expenditure of 15 gems.
eta: I should also reiterate one of my other tips as well. For candy counting, download a tally app from your app store and setup categories for each way you can receive candy: eggs, treats, friends, etc. I keep the tally app on my phone and play on my iPad, so it's trivial to just tap the appropriate tally category to keep track of candies received while I play. I also set up a "Start" category to record the total amount I have accumulated in the candy bank each morning so I can verify my tapped count against the actual total throughout the day, adjusting whenever I purchase a reward (makes it easier to figure out what happened if the total is different than what I expect).

I'd like to add a little disclaimer to this strategy. While you get 25 candies for 15 gems, you also do not get any other benefit. So those gems go directly to getting those candies. However, if you spend gems on something like speeding up breeding for example, then you get the candies as well as some other benefit. So if you are low on gems, this strategy may be a good one. But if you have a nice stockpile of gems, it might be better to just use it on speed ups or upgrades.

True, this tip should be applied within in the context of your own situation. Note that it's pretty easy to get to the daily candy cap for most speedup-able (is that a word?) tasks, so really the only time it might be more advantageous to use speed-ups in terms of candy-for-gem expenditures is if you're approaching candy reset without having hit your cap or else you're speeding up for another reason (i.e. trying to maximize number of breedings to get a limited dragon before it goes away, etc.).

Hi everyone! I've been enjoying your tips and strategies for a few weeks now - so helpful! I'm relatively new to the game and muddled through pretty well in the firefly festival, but I'm hoping someone can explain the strategy of collecting for these events. There was talk about "diminishing algorithms" that I don't really understand. So what is the best timing for getting the most points/fireflies/candy?
Hi and welcome echo 9. Feel free to register and join in the mayhem. Basically, the diminishing algorithm just means that you won't get candy every time you collect treats. They will become harder to find as you get more. Best bet is to plant quick return treats and keep, doing it until you do a couple of rounds without any reward. We will soon get a handle on the daily maximum and publish the number here somewhere. We may already have done so. It is early morning for me and I haven't been through all the overnight posts yet.

1. Made it calculate for 25 days, approximating a Nov 2nd end date. 2. The Spoopy daily tracker tab now shows how many "double candy weekend days" are needed in order to reach the Spooky theme! I'd say it's quite (probably) possible to obtain the Spooky theme without having to buy any candies. Yay!
If there are 2 double weekends, for 6 days of doublt candies, then it looks like regardless of which strategy you use, then you can make it to the Spooky theme.
Bummer for me, I can't get coli candies today, already switched the dragons out this morning.

If there are 2 double weekends, each with 6 days, then it looks like regardless of which strategy you use, then you can make it to the Spooky theme.

Wow. You've got great weekends of 6 days each!
That's why I'm on so often. I only work one day of the week
Hehe, meant two double weekends resulting in 6 days of double candies.

Thanks for the spoopy math, very helpful & scary.
I was gonna use 30 gems every day, but it looks like that won't even make a difference so you just saved me 750 gems

I just got a pop up "word from the wizard" saying that the event will go from October 9th through November 3rd so it looks as if we might get an extra day.
Still breeding for:
1st Dragon - Delirium, Monolith 5, Ortreat, Comet, Eridanian. 2nd Dragon - All of the above, Faire, Darkling, Loot, Lycan, Spectre, Trick. Pedestals - All of the above, Snowflake 5.

Well… it appears that the math was so frightening that I mess up in my calculations. Looks like even if there are 6 days of double candies that you’ll need to spend gems in order to get the spooky theme. I’m not too big on themes so I don’t know that I’ll be spending too many gems… then again I do have quite the stash of gems to spend!
